My ex-girlfriend made a serious suggestion about her getting a female partner while we were still going out. I knew she was bi-sexual but I told her no immediatly and she told me an ''open'' relationship would be fun for the both of us, so I told her that I think people use ''open'' relationships as an excuse to sleep around. She broke up with me a few days later without telling me why . . . go figure *shrugs*

You blew it. She was clearly inferring the idea of bringing another girl home. Have a little fun, THEN break up!

There is no point of being in a relationship if you're going to be sleeping around. Sex is, whether you like it or not, a display of love. It's a physical way to display love and commitment. To think of it as nothing more than reproductive recreation is to deny one of the things that makes humanity civilized rather than animalistic. If you actually love someone, you won't want to be screwing other people.
I just don't like the feel of this post. Mainly the "Sex is, whether you like it or not, a display of love" part is throwing me off. Why? Is that an absolute for everyone? I'm calling bullshit.
On a purely scientific basis, sex causes the brain to produce oxytocin, oxytocin causes you to form a bond with the person you committed the act with. Mothers and babies produce it. Owners and pets produce it. So do lovers. Thus, the act of sex produces a bond, and this bond forms to the exclusion of others. So, by saying that you want to remove this and cast it away, you are denying your very biology. Not the best of plans.

Sex = Love isn't an absolute for everyone, but love is not a feeling - it is a sequence of actions and the realization of your commitment to another person. Lets face it, feelings change and fluctuate - sometimes the person you loves drives you nuts and sometimes you just want to be with them for the rest of time. However, loving someone is a VERB for a reason - it's something you do NOT something you think. If you get tempted by a pretty girl, you deny yourself. If you get angry you control it. You try to keep that person safe from as much of the world's sh1t as you can.

You sir, are speaking like a child. Grow up.

Edit: Just read you're actually 16... yup, that makes sense.

Perfectly acceptable.

Just because it's a social norm to have a monogamous relationship only makes it a better reason to be in an open relationship. People go around talking about society like it's a great thing, but in the end it's just a pile of ants doing the same shit over and over again. You can be a good ant and do what other ants do, or you can be a bad ant and don't. Either way you're going to die eventually... So would you like to be a part of system that will not provide any benefit to you beyond your lifespan aside from a very general unsophisticated survival of the species that still won't personally affect you at all or would you like to be against it, I don't quite give a damn.

You're gonna die, I'm gonna die, and eventually heat death will wipe out the entire universe and everything that's been "accomplished". Do whatever you want.

You can contribute or watch the world burn, on a long enough time span it's all irrelevant.

Or in a less cynical way, there are plenty of shitty traditions that we've overcome now but wouldn't dream of overcoming just a few centuries ago. Just a few centuries ago most people would laugh at the idea that races are pretty much equal. Same thing for any big social change, whether suffrage or gay rights or religion or whatever. Unmarried couple having sex would be a horrible thing in general opinion not even that long ago, and now everyone's doing it and it seems okay. Same for interracial stuff.

I'd say you'd have to try pretty hard to break something hard enough to make the whole card house of civilization to collapse and not have everything, you know, adapt and turn out for the better.
Ooh you rebel! Like the fact that you have a family of barn owls as your avatar - did you know they have long term monogamous relationships? :p

(PS I know that mine is Rayne off LICD - we're all hypocrites here to some extent)

Um.... A guy put his hands on my girlfriends leg and I almost knocked him out, I get jealous very easy, so I wouldn't be cool with it, but I don't mind if you do it.. So yeah.
