The presumption some folks have that they're smarter than everyone else. You know, the people who go on AND ON about how "I should be dictator of the world because I'm sure I'd do a good job of it" and the like.

It's all based on the self-centered conceit that somehow they're magically smarter than everyone else and know how to run everybody's lives better than they can.

Such arrogance can go and die in a fire.

THIS THIS THIS, I just read someone on youtube claiming that scientists made up global warming, and that they had there emails hacked to prove it...
my question for those people is how would hacking emails prove global warming
I saw this news story as well. A scientist sent an email to someone and he mentioned something about "massaging" the data to support the existence of global warming. In otherwords he made it seem more like global warming was happening by modifying results of some kind of test or something.

May not disprove global warming per se, but its still pretty freaking shady.

I think what those people ment was that the scientist emails got hacked and revealed messages...

But jesus, you would think a scientist would be smart enough to not make his password easy to guess.

The following summons bile from my throat, largely because I either know or strongly feel it to be wrong. The prior is my solid evidence, the second is personal taste... backed by solid evidence.

That either the PS3 or the Xbox is superior to either (I own both, they're really not)
That I'm very intelligent and should show it more often. When did anyone get this idea?
Scientology has a right to exist. Ohh no, no it does not.
America is the best country in the world. It's not bad, but I've seen way, way better.
Twilight is a good book. I read the first one, and I had to pray for redemption.
That owning a knitted Hitler doll makes me a fashist. I think it's funny.
That liking games of any kind (other than sports) makes me a sad and geeky person.

People who believe in creationism, despite all the evidence against it
Evolution is a theory, same as Creationism.
Another is people who don't know how to properly use "theory".

A theory is something that has been tested many times by many people in the scientific community, and has had all or most signs point to its existance. The only evidence toward creationism is the Bible. Creationism is a hypothesis, not a evidence-supporting theory

"emos are not depressed, dont wear black, don't have black hair, and aren't all skinny"

seriously, if that was true, then everyone would be an "emo" by default, also the whole "im not emo im SCENE" argument, I mean, WTF, scene just means to keep up with the latest scene, which is "EMO"

Another thing "NOT ALL EMOS ARE DEPRESSED I AM ONE AND I AM VERY HAPPY"
Whenever I hear this I usually catch myself Shouting "Fuck off and watch naruto then, you stupid fuck"
instead of explaining to them how stupid what they just said was... -.-

Rather tired of (insert generalization here) (insert country here) threads, honestly. If making them became grounds for an instant ban, I guarantee we'd see less of them.

Mostly, the "Americans are dumb/prejudiced/fat/flavor-of-the-week-insult-here" generalizations. They're the most common and thus the most annoying.

No, a "theory" is an idea, a possibility. Something with all or most scientific signs pointing to it being true is a proof.
Tell that to the entire scientific community, all of whom, disagree with you.

OT: Anyone who thinks they know better than a scientist. Because obviously your job at Circuit city gives you great insight into biology and genetics. They're called "experts" for a reason. Its their expertise.

exactly, i was criticized by a scientist (chem researcher) because of my poor password choices

scientists are the best and brightest, they aren't going to make up global warming only to have their emails hacked exposing the whole conspiracy

Quoted from my neighbor's college physics book: "A theory, in the scientific sense of the word, is an analytic structure designed to explain a set of empirical observations. A scientific theory does two things:

it identifies this set of distinct observations as a class of phenomena, and

makes assertions about the underlying reality that brings about or affects this class."

It is not just an idea

the Beatles suck(which they do)
all of these things make my blood curdle, but then I remember that people who say them are trolls and press report.
So saying the Beatles sucked makes me a troll.

What annoys me is when people somehow think that someone elses music taste makes them worth hating
Telling people what music is good. Because of course no one can deviate.
And religious fanaticism.
People who make pedantic corrections to spelling or grammar, and then make mistakes themselves.
Pretty much any conspiracy theory. My favourites are that the moon isn't real, and that periods are a conspiracy between women.
People who say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.

I've constantly been ninja'd by people who think video games make you violent, hate gays, and religious zealots...

So, I'll say the 2012 theory... Man people have forgotten it.
