My personal opinion on that show is that it's... decent. I guess it does what it tries to do, and it does it moderately well. The comedy does get a bit stale, they don't come up with some, if not most, of their material, and it seems if the writers can't come up with comedy, they fall back on racism and general insensitivity. Also, the characters have little to no development or depth, compared to, say, "The Simpsons". My opinion may be a bit biased, as I had a person in one of my classes that was a huge fan of Family Guy. She ended up stalking both me and my friend and having mental breakdowns complete with screaming and crying whenever something didn't happen the way she thought it would.

So, fellow Escapists, your opinion?

The first few seasons were really good, but like all shows it started going downhill. Now it just wastes time with joke whose punchline is that the joke is so long. That or cheap shots at Republicans.

It certainly has its moments of random hilarity. Other than those, it generally just fails to impress.

You know I really did used to enjoy the show, especially back in its early days. But, as time went on it started being less funny and there seemed to be more and more pop culture references instead of actual jokes.
Ah, well. That's just the way it goes, I guess.

I find it enjoyable.

The Brain/Stewie scenes are great and the jokes are funny, even if repeated a little bit.
However, I preferred the matricidal Stewie to the gay Stewie. It was funnier to me.

It has gotten a bit to preachy over the past couple seasons but there are still some laughs to be had.

I believe South Park put it best-

"Family Guy is a bunch of random, interchangeable jokes that add nothing to the story."

While some of them are funny, I prefer my South Park.

I view Family Guy as a TV show that I wouldn't seek out, but I wouldn't necessarily change the channel if it came on.

So far their recent episodes have been golden. When their esoteric jokes aren't just focused on overly-celebrity-focused pop culture, they can be extremely funny. In the end, their episodes are the most rewatchable, because some jokes that don't come out before will be hilarious later, like watching Austin Powers 10 years after being a kid.

Liked it pre-cancellation, thought it peaked at season 4, went downhill, and is now somewhat better. Currently, though, I prefer American Dad, but I hate The Cleveland Show.

I think we can all agree, however, that Family Guy's at it's best with Brian and Stewie.

It used to hilarious and now it it like the Simpson's, over done and old as hell.

South Park FTW.

I used to love Family Guy. I no longer support them because it seems like it became overrun with atheists who keep bashing on religion and anti-Americans.

I think it was rubbish at the start and even worse now. It's just The Simpsons ripped off by someone who doesn't really understand how humour works, and spends too much time trying to be "edgy". Political comment is fine, but it has to be handled carefully in a cartoon for it not to come across as boring, preachy and condescending, all things that Family Guy is in spades.

That's how i feel about it. The original episodes weren't as random. Yeah they still had random jokes, but at least they felt appropriate most of the time. The new Family Guy episodes are a grab bag of political commentary and pop culture references, both of which tend to suck.

Maybe that's just nostalgia. But my point is I laughed at the old episodes. The new ones fail to amuse me.

They're the worst parts of the show for me. Brian has an annoying elitist attitude and Stewie can't go 2 minutes without reminding us that he is gay.
