having just finshed another playthough of Half life opposing force i began to wonder. Is it actaully better than the original Half life? I have gone back to opposing force much more than the orignal, and it takes all the excellent parts of the series and leavs the bad parts out. The last few Chapters of half life really begin to drag while oppossing force leaves you satisfied but wanting more, and also wonder about Cpl. Shepards fate.
What do you think? Better than the orginal?
Also do you want shepard back?

Just out of curiosity, what did you find the bad parts of half-life to be?
Personally I love opposing force, I guess I would also say I prefer it to the original.

I enjoyed Opposing Force. It'll be nice to see if they re-open Cpl. Dog Meats story.

Its a lot more taught it terms of pacing. But I think the guys were still getting it right with Half Life. I love the pair of them and kind of consider them part of the same package.

I'm one of the few people that enjoyed the ***** hard difficulty ramp up in Xen (Hard mode, no crosshair ftw). The final alien levels really made me enjoy the whole HL experience BUT the grapple gun, the sniper rifle and the heavy pistol are all brilliant.

I want to see Shepherd in Episode 3. (Maybe contracted to work for Aperture Science?)

I think Opposing force is just as good as the original though I never managed to complete it... They are making a Opposing force 2 fan mod http://www.moddb.com/mods/opposing-force-2 Which should be of proffesional standard and come in 2010, looks awesome, I can't wait!

I loved Opposing Force, it was nearly as good as the original. It was a great twist on the story and had better action in some places. I'm still hoping Adrian Shephard will return to the Half-Life world. The G-Man still has him in stasis.
Whoah. Big idea.

Valve said that they want to keep going with the franchise. Perhaps once Freeman's arc is done, we can take a look at what thankless job Adrian is set too? Hell, set it so that it happens at the same time as Freeman's adventure, so we can take a good look at the shit Gordon set in motion.

The one thing I remember and miss the most from Opposing Force... is that extremely awesome (and cute, mind you) living weapon, that resembles a fish... something, that he pats when idle and feeds to reload...

I want to play Opposing Force again... I never played it through. T_T
I stopped at the place where... you have to go through a large dark tunnel, and there's two-three huge monsters in there, that used lightning, I think, and had a shitload of hp, and I had little ammo left <.<;

I loved Opposing Force, and Blue Shift too, even if I finished it in an hour and a half. But is it better than Half Life? I wouldn't go that far. Most of what made Opposing Force great was how it tied into the Half Life story, how you saw the same event from two different sides. Taken by it's self, it would have only been a decent shooter at best.

the pacing to opposing forces was alot better than Half Life, but the level design for Half life is superior, it makes more sense.... come on people?, while playing playing Half Life did you ever question why you was in that particular place?, be honest! it just seamed so well.

Also Shephard is an amazing character, I hope to see him again, although being unwillingly detained by the Gman as opposed to being offered employment such as Freeman makes it difficult to bring him back.

Valve, don't fuck it up, please.

Actually that gives him the perfect reason to bring him back.

With Gorden unavalible to him, he might just go with the clever, resourceful, military trained man that he has on ice. Come on, admit it. It would be fun to play a Half Life 2 Expansion where your trying to track down Gorden in exchange for your freedom.

ohh wow, you young squire have swayed me with your charm and charisma!, totally right, I almost forgot that Freeman handed in his resignation. Once his garden leave is up Gman has Shephard still. mmmmmmm what you say is delicious and moist.... mostly moist, mmmmmmm yummy

Opposing Force was not made by Valve, it was developed by Gearbox Studios - you might have better luck finding a fix from them.

With regards to the opening query, however; I did enjoy Opposing Force more. The pacing in general was better in my view, and it was interesting to see the story from the perspective as one of the many marines sent to contain the problem. I am left to wonder about the fate of the good Cpl though. I would like to have seen the character pop up in HL2 as a member of the resistance or something, but that would violate the tradition of the character (like gordon himself) never speaking.

Shepard should really make a comeback. I mean, Barney got one, right?

What about Barney? You played as him in "Blue Shift", right?

The original Half-Life is the original and thus can't cant be compared to the knockoffs, good as they were. Opposing Force did have the largest and likely funnest selection of weapons of any of the games, however I enjoyed Blue Shift's plot more than I did Opposing Force. It just worked well and was rather engaging.

As it stands, Sheppard is a loose end, and I don't think that Valve will let it stay like that before the Half-Life series ends. For my vote, I will guess that in Episode 3 the Gman has brainwashed Sheppard and sends him off to stop Freeman from doing whatever he has to do when he finds the Borealis.

Haha interesting you brought this up because only the other day I was thinking how much better Opposing Force was to the Original Half-Life. I mean I loved both but seriously Opposing Force just rocked...I think it was because I was a Gask Mask wearing Marine badass instead of a nerdy MIT graduate. :p
