The first time I played i was playing with my brother who had been playing for two days. he never caught on that you could own a house by completing missions in megaton (he took off wandering ASAP) so his first advice for a new player: "Clear the school first then you can use it as a base, there's heaps of lockers and stuff to store your junk too" so my first property in the game was mattress on the floor of a classroom in the school surrounded by the bodies of my slain enemies, in there any wonder I took the path of evil?

I first wandered into that destoryed town near megaton were you find the junkie in one of the houses the one you get caps from when you do the quest for moriarty, I had used up all my bullets escaping the vault and ended up punching one of the enclave satalite things to death only for it to explode and cripple my arm.

Same here. Couple of useful skill books in there too and a nuka quantum, yummy.

If you look at the design of the wasteland, the road leading down the hill and through springvale is designed so your eye is lead towards the village, then the school, then the sign pointing to megaton.

Doesn't your stuff dissapear after a few days? I'm always afraid to leave stuff in any container that isn't in my Megaton place.

Went to megaton, decided to be (nominally, at least) neutral, reported Burke to the sheriff, watched him get gunned down, then critical'd Burke in the back of the head with a baseball bat. took the duster and the CAR, headed out in search of levels (I didn't take explosives as a focus, so I had to level again to get the requisite 25 skill points).

The last thing I did was kill every human in Tenpenny, introduce the ghouls, steal a pressure cooker from them and nearly get killed when I went back to trade. Yeah, that was not a good session...three Behemoths (I'm level 6 at the moment, by the way; this means I died three times) and killed two of the 12 supermutants that I swear are stalking me (another five deaths or so).

It's one of the most frustrating games I've ever played, but that just means it's more satisfying when you win at it (like criticaling Burke in the back of the head with a baseball bat; that was just hilarious.

I don't think so. I'm using Silvers house in Springavile for the same purpose of my new game. After killing her I use the console to disable her ownership of the bed and cabinet. Now I'm using her house for all my sleep and storage needs, at least until I finish my business in Megaton and blow it up.

So far none of my items have disappeared so I think it's safe.

Yep, it's designed so that your less likely to wander off into the wasteland and get yourself killed. Of course I somehow managed to remain oblivious to the town and walked in the other direction.

Me too. Megaton just looks like a big hunk of brown something or other from vault 101's scenic overlook.

Yeah, it really is an eyesore. I'll blow it up soon. That will make the area surrounding my base in Springavile look better.

When I first got out of the Vault I was almost immediately ambushed by a vicious mutated mole rat whil looking for applecores in a nearby dumpster. he wanted them ,and I wanted them. We fought well into the night, we were both tired, and too stubborn to give up and yield to the other.

Finally I had slain the molerat (I now call him Smithers) by planting the final blow with my switchblade into one of his temples....Then I found a small house and backhanded an old prostitue and took her caps. Those were good times.

Edit: Probably the most useful thing I did near the beginning of the game was, setting up base at Pringvale School after I emptied it of raiders. Plenty of locker space there.

I did a play through with a hunting rifle character. Makes the game way easier.

Also the best stealth character is an unarmed ninja.

Went the wrong way and ended up tangling with the raiders on that overpass. By the time I got to that barn with the random encounter, I realized I was going the wrong way, turned around, and raided the raider-filled school for supplies. Then I found Megaton and the most awesome adventure of 2008!

First thought: "The hippies were riiiight!"

Then I blew up the Enclave Eyebot for a measly 1 xp.
After that, I got 500 caps from the ex-prostitute, and headed to Megaton.

Walked to Megaton and disarmed the bombs for money then walked about my merry way trying to find things to spruce up my house. I kinda wish you could decorate like you could with Morrowind
