The Devil in Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox. Now, it wouldn't be so bad, if it weren't for the fact that you have to fight two mini bosses with crazy amounts of health (the only way to so much as scratch them is to use your most powerful attacks, and even then it takes a lifetime), and go two rounds against enemies in an arena (during one of which the Devil is throwing fireballs at you from off-screen, which you cannot see), and THEN you have to fight him.

Oh, and all of this is after climbing a spire full of cheap enemies and ghost fish. I hate ghost fish.

Fontaine Hard Mode when he is in Ice Form. I couldn't even shock the fucker.
Whoa seriously? He was piss easy all you need is electric gel in the chemical thrower, some proximity mines and telekinesis. I beat him on the PS3 exclusive SURVIVOR mode on my first try.

I would have to agree there. Saying that though I once beat him first time on Hardest with Ryu. How I have no idea!

Duriel from Diablo 2. It slows you down and then pounces on your frigid body, its giant health bar laughing at your feeble attacks.

I actually find hard bosses are just a massaive challenge. What pisses me off is in Alpha protocol. For the first mission and the folowing 3, you have 15-30 seconds to hack terminals, pick locks, and bypass key card slots. The minigame are fairly straightforward (these are USUALLY necessary for getting somewhere or gaiing intel) and you arn't too pressed for time.

Then the final mission comes, and you have 5-8 seconds and if you screw up an alamrm sounds, followed by 5 men storming the room. The paths for the circuits look like spaghetti instead of the normal looks, the locks now have 5 tumblers instead of 3, and the hacking changes the locations of the numbers every few seconds...

(on a side note for the hacking, it's more of a piss off because you literally CANNOT get the codes to line up in time)

I hate it when videogames turn the difficulty of necessary minigame from easy to hard suddenly. Give me a hard boss any day. Some series are notorious for making the entire game easy, and then making the last level a pain in the ass to get though.

Actual difficult boss though? I would agree with anyone saying lost planet 2. The aiming is a tad TOO touchy for me to aim at the orange spots. The first game was so much better

Monster hunter /thread
i agree with this man.
I'm a monster hunter veteran; and when MHfreedom unite came out i was stoked for G-rank and whatnot.

then it turned out to just shit in my face and laugh.
with 3 friends who all have really good reflexes; you can probably do anything on that game. Sadly i only had 1 other friend to help me. but we still hauled major ass in that game and it was fun.

Until G-rank White Fatalis just kind of raped us.

Just about any boss from WoW: The Burning Crusade in the earlier phases of its release. Everything was over-tuned in the end game to keep the more hardcore players happy. I'm not going to lie, I was. one of them. However, considering the number of people that struggled with the most basic content, it was a poor design decision.

They're called SNK...

The extra bosses from NeoGeo Battle Colliseum take the cake I think. Especially because you can't retry them, if you lose you're simply sent into another story branch and you'll have to start the arcade mode again for a new chance. Apart from SNK games there's one more boss I've never been able to defeat:

The hyper version of I-No in Guilty Gear #Reload from Dizzy's storyline. No retries, specific requirements across 5 fights to get to her and she's harder than the version at the end of the arcade mode. Plus you have to play as Dizzy, which is one of my worst characters so maybe it could just be me.

A special mention goes out to Tekken 5's boss (the undead Heihachi thing). He's annoying because if he uses certain moves he is invincible. He can simply choose to win if he wants to (due to unblockable setups and a life regaining move), so just keep retrying until you win, there's no skill to it as his patterns are piss easy. I guess the same goes for Tekken 6.

Asides:
Prototype was frustrating due to the time limit.
Infamous was an awesomely well balanced boss-battle compared to the abilities you have at the end of the game.
Golden Sun was an uber easy game, can't remember anything giving me trouble. For most RPG's: grind some more levels and roll over them if you're having problems.
Ninja Gaiden bosses are 'simply' cheap and require some strict pattern analysis.
Mortal Kombat Decepetion's boss is incredibly easy if you figure him out. The key is to use low damage quick attacks and never finish any string as he punishes the finishing hit because he has no hit recovery.

The Avatar of Khaine in Dawn of War 2. Not only is he ridiculiously OP, but he constantly spawns minions....and wraithlords...and FUCKING TANKS.

No no no no, you know who is the most ridiculous boss?

Bowser. That guy is just a pain in the ass! Spitting fire, throwing hammers, jumping up and down like he's so god damn special...And then when you finally kick his ass, there's no princess. Wtf.

On FFXIII I found the first encounter with barthandelus almost impossible, I raged quit a few times before I finally beat him. Strangely I found the final boss WAY too easy, I didn't even almost die, which was disappointing.

general RAAM from the end of gears of war, the guy could take an entire clip without flinching, force you into cover with an attack that killed you if you were`nt and acted a shield when not in use and had to be fought on a narrow platform so as to make flanking him impossible.

I had to exploit a glitch just to beat the guy and it`s the only time I`ve exploited a glitch without feeling like I cheated.

I know who's a hard boss That Giant Cactaur from FF13 trust me i couldn't beat him on my 2nd play through he has a move that kills u 1 hit and near impossible to beat don't have a pic but look him up he's crazy
He's designed to be killed using the "random stagger" ability. Effectively, equip your party with a number of sashs or any other item that gives you the bonus (you get it by mixing a combination of 5 items but I can't recall what they are) then just attack - you'll stagger him quickly, as the ability allows you to stagger any enemy near instantly, if you get lucky; then just keep him in the air and kill him.

I 5-starred that fight first time...I really should finish off 5-starring the rest of those missions...

As for a hard boss I had trouble with: The Conqueror in The Last Remnant - talk about an unfair fight...

You want impossible? Try Dante Must Die on DMC 3, the penultimate mission.

If one were to make me choose ONE though, cause that mission is nothing but bosses, a good choice would be that Krauser guy from RE4. He changes hiding places, his knife can fuck you in 2 slices and you need supercharged fingers for the QTEs. The final fight with him was hard and truly tricky but in the end, the Broken Butterfly was all I needed. I could write a whole article about this guy and tactics. The whole battle is amazingly hard if you haven't acquired the experience necessary and by that, I mean finish the game more than 4 times, you will not last 2 minutes against Jack.

Tekken 6: Azazel. What a joke. Bought that game 2 days after release, traded it back in within 2 more days and did what I should've done earlier: got Dragon Age :p
Chuckled. Thanks. I would second that, but since Paul and Law are my main chars, not so much. There are certain tricks that help against this guy and they even work on Ultra Hard. Like the Burning Fist Lock.

Twinrova from Zelda: Oracle Of Seasons (or Ages) It's so monotomous that I don't even know how many hits she can take or that I'm doing something wrong. Eventually I just blunder and die. And then to think I might have to fight Ganon next. UGH!
I believe you just hit the fire balls at the blue one and the ice balls at the fire one, then when they merge, whack em with yer sword, then when she goes two different colours, fire scent seeds at her.

For me, that wasnt the hard bit, it was figuring out the bloody puzzle before hand, although I was pretty young at the time
