I've just never been able to kill Yakuza from Metroid Fusion, I'd of probably beaten him by now if it wasn't for the fact that the closest save point is a fair distance away, and his grab move, it takes down like a third of your health.

In conclusion never trust a spider that's named after a mafia.
Yakuza was pretty easy!
The boss I could never beat was the SA-X fro Metroid Fusion. Second to last battle, damned impossible. I took me so long, I lost the game, bought a new copy and only then, did I beat it.

Oddly enough, I was going to say Xaldin the second I saw this thread.

But, since I was already ninja'd...I'd say King Allant from Demon's Souls.

If you've played it, you know he's a cheating asshole.

I used to rage SO hard at the bosses in Secret Of Mana, in the Witch's tower I think, where you go against the tiger and the minotaurs one after the other - ALWAYS struggled.

AND! Illusion of time / Gaia the vampire twin boss, where you are not only on a timer, but also getting slaughtered.

Nintendo hard games

Castlevania 1, reaper, frankenstein, maybe drac but after you learned his pattern it was easy
Ninja Gaiden 1&2 (never played 3) pretty much the whole game required you to be a god
Battle Toads - nuff said
Mega Man 1 - Wiley's castle bosses, the cyclops boss that splits into pieces and you can only shoot his eye for about .5 seconds while he shoots at you
Mega Man 2 - Wiley's alien form that kills you in 3 hits and you can only hurt it with Bubble Man's power

Duriel from Diablo 2. It slows you down and then pounces on your frigid body, its giant health bar laughing at your feeble attacks.
He isnt hardest but he is really pain in the ass. Especially when you play on hardcore. You enter into his tomb and your hours of playing are over sooner then you can cast town portal.

For me its pretty much any boss from any touhou game on insane difficulty.

We're talking about possible, but very difficult boss fights, and not Hopeless Boss Fights [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HopelessBossFight], right? In that case, I would say Bass & Treble from Megaman 8. No matter how full my health was when I got there, I always seem to lose. I don't even know what the best ability is to run that encounter.

Heroic boss Astrogha, from Diablo 2 Median XL.
Immune to all but 1 element. And that element changes every second. Insta-kill frozen orb attack. Teleports whenever takes damage. Summons statues that:
Summon-spams bugs which reflect physical damage, really fast.
Places death curse which kills you on next damage taken, when you kill it.
Heal all nearby units when destroyed.

And, something else I don't remember.

In regards to the Disgaea things, it's best to keep in mind that NIS Strat-RPGs are pretty much universally built around exploiting the system (well, really success in most Strat-RPGs is about grinding and exploiting the system) and that they give you every tool you could possibly need to do so. So while Baal and his Prinny form are tough, it's actually not terribly difficult to get a party that can wipe him out before he gets a chance to move. And I find that in the post-game replays, it actually ends up being harder to LOSE some of those forced loss battles than it would be to win them...but then, I tend to think that the NIS games are more parodies of Strat-RPGs than not....which amuses me since they are some of the best...

On topic: I'd like to second the nomination for the Demi-Fiend aka: Hitoshura from Digital Devil Saga part 1 and offer a nomination for most of the fiends and Lucifer in SMT:Nocturne....of course, most of the optional bosses in SMT games LOVE to mop their floors in the player's entrails....and are quite good at it....However, I point out these ones from Nocturne since a "complete" playthrough where you've beaten Lucifer means that every subsequent playthrough has him as as the final boss and the first Fiend boss since it's the only UNAVOIDABLE optional boss, fought early in the game and it's SIGNIFICANTLY harder than any monster you've fought up until that point and for quite some time thereafter.
Hold up.........the fiends were optional?????

I mean I knew there was a warning and whatnot when you were close to one but I could never seem to get by them without a confrontation.

Yeah, Xaldin was a pain...
But hey, while we are talking about Kingdom Hearts 2, try Sephiroth for a spin. I lasted about 3 seconds. I eventually managed to beat him, but, thank God he is optional.
Yea but once you get the rhythm down he was simple. Hit him here, jump over him there, hit him again there, HIDE FROM HIM THERE, hit him again there.... yea.
But for Xaldin, I could never seem to get any pattern down. Just mind blowing unfairness.

Edit: About Sephiroth again, by that point in the game, you already had a huge health bar and all of these incredible combo's. But Xaldin is one of the first revisit boss battles, so you're still kinda weak.
Also, try Seph from the first game. Have fun killing him without resorting to cheese.

Here we go again...

Anybody who knows me from the forums will know of my hatred for this bastard:

Impossible...stress-inducing...Gah!
I just had a flash back to that boss...

Seriously, that thing can go and rot in hell for its cheap insta-hit unavoidable status effects.

At that stage in the game you had about 2 Remedies, it was stupid...

That thing was redunklulous and still haunts my nightmares. And no I never managed to kill it, my friends fled about half way through because I was adamant I wanted to carry on fighting it despite the sheer hopelessness.

And now I HAVE to go play D2 and lose a week of my life, thanks bud.

Golden Sun 2.

there is a secret Boss called Dullahan.

Aside from having powerful Psynergy, Stats, and high HP & PP.

He has a move called Djinn Storm.
(Djinn are Equipable creatures that alter your stats and classes, and let you Summon)
It would put ALL of your party's Djinn in Recovery, messing up your stats and moves, and keep you from Summoning.
He liked to use that move a lot BTW.
I remember that guy. Fun battle. ("Fun" is subjective.)

As for me, is there any way to actually freakin BEAT Metroid Prime 2's boss? Emperor Ing's first form is a pain in the ass, with those giant tentacles flailing around, and on top of that, when you actually damage him, Nintendo did a massive DICK movie extraordinaire by putting massive blinders on his weak spot, making the hole to shoot an INCH in diameter.

And that's round 1. 3 whole rounds of that crap and then Dark Samus appears out of nowhere to sap the remainder of your health. (I ran out of ammo during the first part of the fight, and had MAYBE a tank left?)

Is it just me or are there a lot of JRPG's present in this thread?

Anyway, I haven't encountered a lot of them. I know I couldn't beat Metroid Prime in, yeah, Metroid Prime. I kept trying and at one point just gave up. I then did not touch the game until Metroid Prime 2 came out. But before I even popped the MP2 disc in my GameCube I had to finish MP1. And I killed the bastard in 1 go, that was just so awesome.

And to this date I still haven't finished The Minish Cap. I just can't beat Vaati, I haven't discovered his weak spot yet.

I remember finishing that fight in 1 go. Strange.
