Meh, I don't mind if cosplayers are over-weight, as long as they actually do some work on the costume and it isn't just streamers and sweatpants. Just because someone is overweight, they shouldn't allowed to enjoy something like cosplay? Even if they worked on their costume? That doesn't seem fair.

THE DREADED MAN-FAYE!

Green Arrow and Black Canary. Who cares if you're a little overweight, be proud of the costumes (assuming the costumes actually look like Green Arrow and Black Canary) and just remember. THOSE TWO CHARACTERS ARE AWESOME!
much agreed...o'course there a 2nd reason we picked those two characters ('least i have a reason, she doesn't know it yet)...i don't wanna say too much here in case she reads it though...
If you mean what I think you mean, I wish you luck, and hope you'll tell us all how it went.

If you mean this is your way of telling her you killed a guy, cheated on her and/or one of your friends has a serious drug addiction...seriously, not cool.

TBH, IMHO, Green Arrow and the Black Canary have somewhat dubious costumes which don't go well together. Now, Nigthwing and Huntress (when she's in her all encompassing black and purple thing), that works much better, and they aren't really that much more dysfunctional.

Correct me if I am wrong since I don't play dress up really, but isn't the point of it all to have fun? If you turn up with a painted cardboard box on your head and have a fun time, is that not what matters?

So what if people are fat, ugly or unskilled at making costumes? If they have a good time, more power to them.
yeah, lol. Are you guys really trying to take cosplaying THAT seriously?

There will always be people who don't know what they're doing and probably shouldn't be there. Like the people at Latin convention who don't know a word of Latin (but aren't SCLers, so they don't have that privilege) and are only there for the sports. Basically, the jocks who show up to Latin convention. Completely out of place and doing it wrong in basically every way.

Also I got more and more distracted by the fact that you never, ever used the word "the" but instead used "th'" and omitted the space between the article and the succeeding word. Any reason you do that? I've never seen write like that in my whole life. Is it because you talk that way and are just being consistent (i.e. typing how you talk)?

Man... that is a gangsta-ass Kingpin (pun not intended). And I remember that Yuuna picture... oi.

I'll tell you something horrifying: if you can imagine Peter Griffin [http://png.findicons.com/files/icons/208/peter_griffin/300/peter_griffin_indian.png] dressed up as this lovely Pokemon trainer here [http://www.dragoart.com/tuts/pics/8/4579/how-to-draw-misty.jpg]...

Hope you have some bleach handy...

Fat or hairy Crossplayers are usually a convention highlight. Anyone seen Manfaye or Fat Man Anthy?

But let's be realistic here; no matter what the media tells you, there are more fat people than thin.

Oh, yeah, I hadn't noticed the "th'" stuff. That's...stereotypically Lancastrian, right? Home of Ecky Thump and black puddings?

By number of individuals or by volume?

3) different race of th'cosplayer than th'character depicted

Seriously, though, I guess it's because the point of cosplay for everyone else except the cosplayer is to see their favorite characters come to life. If the cosplayer in question is significantly different from the character, it doesn't look right. I mean, it would be weird to ogle a bearded Sailor Moon.
Sailor Moon has become.. not an icon persay but well known in the cosplay community, he's like the guy you KNOW of but dont stand near by

Also, for cosplays of people with darker skin, I've only seen one that I can remember off the top of my head, her being here

She does a great job too with what she works with

Your 'accented typing' is very annoying.

Its stupid saying "th'" instead of "the" or "in'" instead of "ing" cause it uses the same amount of keypresses, looks messy and is harder to read, and most of all makes you look like twat. >.>

In real life? Well an accent is fine
Writing on paper? Looks like crap but can save time with it so excusable
But typed out on a computer? No, just no.

Only time it would be excusable is if you were typing up a story and some character spoke like that, otherwise typing text like that is just stupid...

Ok, I've had my mini-rant, so on the topic:

Basically, as long as it looks good it doesn't matter, and to make it look good you need to pick the right character to play as. Pick a character that you would look good as, not one who just looks good them self but who you couldn't pull off well(and be honest with yourself about it).

but yes, part of that includes picking a character who still looks good with your race, gender and weight. (doesn't mean they have to be the same as the characters, just that it still looks good)

I'm going with they're just playing dress up so don't take it so seriously opinion. Really, it's just a bit of fun, so who cares if they're a little chubby or if they're missing Cloud's left shoulder pad or whatever.

agreeing with the accent writing thing. it makes reading your post VERY annoying.
as for the cosplaying...
I'll be honest; if you're overweight, you should either cosplay as an overweight character, not cosplay or, you know... just lose weight? a good costume takes a lot of time to make so you should have it all planned out way before the event takes place. that's enough time to lose weight, it's not that hard (yes, I have done so myself).

I'm not ranting on those who are overweight and if you want to of course you're free to cosplay as whoever you like. just don't expect anyone to be impressed if you screw it up.

Please. That's nowhere near as bad as what I actually witnessed at Otakon...

That image (the "live-action" guy dressed as Misty, that is, not your example) will haunt my memories for years to come...

This.

Yes, some people are amazing cosplayers, devote all their free time to it, win competitions, one woman at least even published a book about her immense numbers of amazing costumes...

But are you really going to turn your nose up at someone because they have zero skill at making costumes or had no time or materials to put something substantial... but just wanted to go somewhere as their favourite characters? Let alone happen to be the wrong size/race/gender which is and never can be their fault!

Basically... chill out, people, it's just a bit of fun!

In my opinion, this makes you sound super elitist about cosplaying. I myself have never done it, and never will. Just not my style. But to say people aren't putting in enough effort into their costumes, who cares? I'm sure not every single person that dresses up is trying to have the best costume ever. More than likely, it's just for fun, to mess around, all that jazz. Just my 2 cents.

that wasn't my intention, because I don't care that much. I never cosplayed either. I just think cosplaying is something that's a kind of hit-or-miss thing, either you get it right and it's awesome, or you don't and it just looks ridiculous. if you enjoy dressing up and messing around, be my guest, don't let my opinions get in the way of your fun.

Why do you use *th'* instead of *the* ?

And no, if you are fat, you shouldn't cosplay non-fat characters. Nobody wants to see fat people in tight clothing. Fuckin' hell, that's just gross.
Yeah, using "th'" instead of "the" is just trying to be cool, and failing, and it's really quite annoying, and makes me want to punch OP in the face.

And yeah, don't cosplay skinny characters if you're fat.

The biggest offense is when they intentionally try to insult the anime whose characters they are cosplaying as. Or when they get the costume horribly wrong.
