I ask this because my girlfriend and myself are puttin' together costumes for this year's halloween (Green Arrow and Black Canary), and we're both a lil' overweight. Not as bad as some of th'folks in th'vids, but it's there and when you're talkin' tights it'll be noticed (I am tryin' to make my GA suit a lil' less "form-fitting" because of it...and my girlfriend is so greatful she gets to wear th'jacket...o'course, that doesn't help with th'legs when it comes to those stockings but anyway)...

My question to you, oh dear Escapists, is what the biggest offenses for cosplayers to do? Is it any of th'1st four i mentioned? Is it somethin' else that i didn't remember? Or is it all null and void if the costume looks good? What takes you right out of a suit/makes you give somebody the "not even close buddy" award when it comes to cosplay?

*EDIT* While i appreciate th'uplifting words and all, i am genuinely curious as to (if it's not th'weight thing) what DOES equal a "bad cosplay" to you guys...th'encouragement is nice, but it's not th'primary purpose of th'post after all...
No way!

Me and my girlfriend are going to go as GA and Black Canary! (I'm a bit on the chubbier side, whereas my girlfriend has Canary's figure :l)

As for your question, I really think it matters how much effort goes into the costume; some costumes are extremely well put together, and it shows. Others, not so much. So what if you're chubby, if you can make a badass costume I will think you look awesome!

A few notes to everybody that posted:

1) I'm not "huge" or "obese" or anything of th'sort, i just have a lil' more of a gut than normal...i can usually fix this with some ace bandages/SlimT's underneath my suits....my girlfriend on the other hand is a lil' more self-conscious about it...if you want an exact "comparison" just look up any of my Youtube vids (link in my profile) that should clear things up...

2) To those of ya that actually gave an opinion, thanks. 'Least you got th'point of th'forum...

3) As far as th'way i type...:
-Watch any of my YouTube vids and you'll see that i actually do talk that way...
-I (literally) Type like that in EVERY SINGLE POST I EVER PUT UP ON THIS GORRAM WEBSITE!!! And i (not surprisingly) get this pointed out by someobdy at least 3 times per forum i start...you'd think with the amount of posts i've done SOMEBODY woulda gotten th'gorram hint and quit bringin' it up....*sigh*

If you are the size of a goodyear blimp that you shouldnt be cosplaying a skinny character. It just looks absolutely terrible and you are making other people sick. Learn to cosplay to your weight so I dont have to throw up on you. This is for your own benefit as I dont think you want to be walking around with puke on you all day.

And you're being very mean about that Yuna-costumed-lady. She's not even a bit hideous.
Didnt anybody tell you its not nice to lie.
I'm not lying and you're just being mean for no reason. Yeah, her legs are a bit dimply but she's not ugly and her costume is decent, and it fits. If you have problems with vomiting on fat people you should grow the hell up, or go to a doctor.

I think people should cosplay as someone (or something) they feel they can pull off to some degree. I just hate it when no effort has been put into the costume or makeup (if needed).

I'm sorry, I was too distracted by your apparent inability to use the word "the" to really follow what you were saying. I'm not trying to be snarky, I mean it sincerely - the affectation was so distracting that I didn't actually absorb any of what the OP was trying to convey.
