Well I have all of the consols and I have a large number of games for my 360 and ps3 they are both very good. I only have three games for wii: Brawl (suckish) and the only real good games are Twilight princess (which I beat a bazzillion times) and Mario galaxy (still trying to get all the stars) All the other games are a storm of shit. (With the expetion of NMH and Mad World)

So where does that leave the PC?
The PC is where the Gods dine, while the console users serve cater to their whims.
The only drawback is that the "food" often takes a bit longer to reach the PC table.
And you guys use 100 different utensils and constantly send your food back for patches

As for what Pachter said, it just sounds derrogitory.
I'm sorry, but...you failed. I disagreed with your post, but I was willing to respect your opinion until I hit the end.

Oh, the pain...
It's good to know that we still have grammar nazis on this board. I was beginning to worry they had died out.

True. The cutlery costs thousands of dollars, and we need to keep buying newer cutlery, because some food just CAN'T be eaten with "lesser" utensils.
I'm definitely overstretching this analogy, heh.

Why do you limit the McDonald's analogy to just the Wii? Every console has its fast food value menu full of empty calories. Not really defending the Wii, per se, just trying to say that you need to spread the hate! :D

What gives him the right to say that just because someone bought a Wii that they don't appreciate quality games. I have a Wii, and though I am not overly proud of what Nintendo has done with it so far, I don't just buy a game because it is out. I buy a game if I think that it will be fun after hearing reviews and other peoples recommendations.

I find this deeply offensive, in that he so easily assumed that a persons choice of gaming console automatically determines what quality of games you appreciate. Just because a person buys a Wii has no bearing on whether or not they have ever played PS3 or 360. I play 360 very often, so I know the quality of games. I have played Gears of War and enjoyed it, but the Wii offers a completely different gaming experience that can't be achieved by the 360 or PS3.

The 3 consoles can't effectively be compared to restaurants because they are completely different gaming experiences. People go to a steakhouse for good food and a good time with friends, a McDonalds for cheap food, right now. Not that this is a reference to the consoles, just that you shouldn't judge people because of their choices when you don't know their motives and individual gaming style preferences.

Heh, when I said lesser utensils I was making an analogy to having older hardware when playing newer games. They chug or don't run at all.

I'm pretty sure the first amendment gives him that right.

you have the right to disagree

and that's how the system works.

Somehow, I knew this topic would lead to a bunch of people trying to use this guy's opinion to try and prove the Wii is crappy console.

The PC is kind of like the cafe at the corner that has good food, but doesn't mind if you do some work while you're there. As for Pachter, I don't mean to sound rude or anything, but the man must have ADD or something, as it would seem he can't pay attention to anything unless it's shiny and looks pretty. I've got a PS3 and a Wii, and I have to say I have just as much fun with both consoles, and I'd argue the Wii is better for parties then either the 360 or the PS3

I have a Wii and a PS3, and I totally agree with the analogy: and the PS3 wins hands down

A few months ago, a co-worker was talking about video games, and he expressed a lot of interest in "Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games". I was about to tell him (politely, tactfully) that I'd heard it was pretty bad, but then another coworker chimed in about how awesome it was and she had so much fun with her kid and her sister and.. yeah. These are not "hardcore" gaming people. They love the DS and the Wii, and they love it for the "bad" games. Something licensed? Hell yeah, buy it! Something with a princess in it? Buy it for your daughter right now! Ooh, this one's a rip-off of a quality franchise but it's ten bucks cheaper.. score!

I get pissed off, because they're not appreciating games for 'the right reasons', but it's prolly not that big a deal. The reasons are right enough for the people who have them. I'm a snob about a lot of stuff. I like 'artsy' movies which those plebian slimes will never appreciate.. but if they have a great time at the latest summer blockbuster or rom-com, should it really piss me off? "ARGH, they're having fun that they shouldn't have! They don't DESERVE it, they didn't EARN it, they don't know what it MEANS....!"

The Wii is successful because of cookie-cutter casual slop games, and all it really means is it's made a lot of people happy. Just like Happy Meals, yes. All those dumb people get to feel happy too, and I get to feel extra snobby and special, more an more so as time goes on. By the time my daughter's an adult, this situation will be off the freakin' hook. But there will still be opportunities to be a snob, to be hardcore, to be in the know.

I guess the fact that I have a daughter (she's almost 6) is the most depressing part of it. I want her to have fun, but I have to guide her with video games, because I'm selfish, and she's MY legacy, dammit, and I want her to be able to appreciate the games I do, and see my reasoning. So I play Katamari and Lego Star Wars with her, for fun, and then I play through old RPGs with her, and Zelda, and Cave Story.. and I hope that it sinks in. I wish I didn't have to weed out the Bratz and Barbie games, cuz she's young enough that she wants to like what her friends like, but that shit IS NOT COOL (mainly cuz of sex stereotypes, but also cuz they're licensed dimwit clone crap!.. grr..) yeah, we don't have a Wii. But I guess I'm saying it's OK that everyone else does, and loves it for what I might consider the wrong reasons..? Yeah, something like that.

OK, here it is: Love the Wii cuz it makes people happy. But love other stuff for your own reasons, and if you have kids, make sure that they can be happy and still not be morons.

Sorry about that somewhat-aimless, partially-off-topic-rant. I love you.
