As for what Pachter said, it just sounds derrogitory.
He certainly isn't arguing the point that the first-party games aren't good, but Nintendo really has gotten lazy with all of the shovelware coming out, and no good games to balance it. I own a Wii, but there are no good titles coming out. At all. It really is simply greed on Nintendo's part, just like McDonald's makes easy food instead of good food. I don't think it's a bad thing that Nintendo is bringing games to non-gamers, but it is alienating the hardcore gamers, like cuisine enthusiasts who wouldn't eat at McDonald's.
But he insults the audience itself. I'm sorry, but I've never heard anyone talk about how much they've enjoyed the fact that there is a deluge of casual games released for the Wii like they do their obsessions with Big Macs. The players just don't diserve that.

Exactly. Just because there's a lot of shovelware, it doesn't mean the people who own those consoles are buying them.

It's just a really stupid generalization

It's kind of true. But the 360 is the Taco Bell. PS3 is the Papa Johns.
Wait, the American system is the Mexican food?

I think the 360 is more like a long-range chain of sit-down restaurants more easily accessible than the PS3's "We have a chef who people might actually know and there is some snootiness going on here" type of restaurant, with a few special meals that are exclusive to it, but most people still go there than the other high end place for common things because it's cheaper and not so snooty.

It's sad to see that the majority of gaming publications seem to just add fuel to the stupidity that is the 'console wars'. If you think a particular console is better, then good for you. Not my money wasted if I don't like it.

The Mc Donalds reference is a little unfitting considering games like Mario Galaxy, which easily could compete on either console, but in general terms he is right.

With PC gaming it's more like cooking your own food. You choose what ingredients you buy and the way you prepare them. The outcomes can be varied, but true chefs can compete with the best restaurants.

You mean the 360 is good, but every so often will make you crap yourself
and PS3 is good, but no one really eats there because Little Ceaser's has that $5 for a large pizza deal.

360 isn't Taco Bell style, since it has a much larger library of good games availible and most of the 360 owners knowingly try to pick out the good from the bad. If anything, it's more along the lines of a Qdoba. More expensive, but it's of a much higher quality.

Okay, up to a point, but was he saying the same thing about the PS2 at the height of it's success. I think that there is a possibility that he may just be saying what he thinks people want to hear.

Is he really comparing Gears of War to a high status restaurant? Some Nintendo games are the most highly rated of the highly rated and they do it while being family friendly. Nintendo is more like a family friendly restaurant with good food. Games like Gears of War are like a bar where people get blind drunk and fight each other but they happen to serve good beer and snacks.

Interesting point. But the other two console are hardly gourmet cooking (what with their straight from the mould FPS/TPS lines and I can't believe it's not Gran Turismo racing games).

I think the analogy fits PC vs Consoles better, Consoles being more approachable, but not nescessarily offering the best experience. Whilst PC's take more investment in time, money and learning, but offer a deeper experience overall.

I'd also say the Xbox is Burger King. Quality is neither awful nor great and the pricing appears reasonable, but the reality is filled with hidden costs and liable to give you food poisoning...

The Wiis alright and it has potential, but unfortunately that potential is wasted on a ton of cookie cutter games that are average at best which gives the console a bad rep. But if you find the good games its a very good system.
This makes me laugh. I haven't bought a Wii game in a long time, but most of the hyped games you see for 360 and the PS3 are FPSes...the most cookie-cutter genre ever.
It's what people want nowadays, so they pay that no mind.
Doesn't this make the 360 and PS3 to be the actual McDonalds of gaming?

Now why can't wii owners be allowed to do that? Why lump them with the crowd that buys 'casual games', that have always sold well regardless of console generation and up until now have just not been reported upon as much.

It is blatant stereotyping, and rather insulting, to assume that all Wii owners are like this.
