Parents accused of sexual abuse for taking pictures of their kids

The Wal-Mart employees probably are stupid but they are mandated by state law to report certain types of pictures, and that's probably a good thing because most Wal-Mart employees are stupid and we don't want them exercising their own judgment. It's the investigating DCF agents that should be blamed here.

It all seems pretty obvious to me but then again I haven't seen the pictures and would hate to hear about parents that were sexually abusing their children and having photographs of the abuse developed at the local Wal-Mart and nobody noticed or looked into it.

ETA I never said or meant to imply these parents were pedophiles or that it is abusive to take naked shots of your own children.

Jesus christ, what is the world coming too? This reminds me of a similar stupid ass story that happened here in the UK.

A mother took her daughter with her grocery shopping, and you know what kids are like? They kick and scream and complain etcetc. So the Mother, after packing everything into the car, takes her child, and locks her in the car while she goes and puts back the shopping trolley [Which was only a few metres away] Someone notified the police and said it was child abuse.

My parents have quite a few pictures of me in the bath as a child, they are purely innocent. The employee just wanted a few moments of fame and glory for discovering bath time photos and passing them off as "pornographic", regardless of what happened.

Plus there was no evidence of sexual abuse, just some kids, their own kids, splashing about in a bath.

If taking pictures of your own children in the bath warrents sexual abuse, most of our parents would be in prison right now.

To develop pictures, the person developing the pictures has to see them. Either that or they can blindfold themselves and hope the pictures are done developing when they are pulled out of the solution. And that they don't bump into anything sensitive causing chemical burns on themselves.

You are very right to say that it would be impractical to develop photographs without sight. However, these days many photographs are not developed as such, but printed from a digital image into special paper. So I think, with the modern method, there is no need to look at the photographs.

However, since I do not know what method was employed, I cannot comment any further.

as i often do when i see something like this , i try and 'flip it' to what would have been reported if these parents werent reported and it turned out they WERE pedos and those 'harmless' pictures were nothing of the kind, or just the few that somehow got left on the card after the ones showing daddy diddling them were deleted.

i say this, the pictures COULD have been evidence in something more than innocent bath time photos. the person reporting them did the proper thing imo and the agency charged with child welfare checked it out, seems to have found nothing wrong, the parents get their children back and move on.

if i was the parents, if anything id be HAPPY that i had a local CPS that was on the ball and doing their job for a change. we as a society ***** when things 'slip through the cracks' then when someone trys to make sure that it doesnt happen we seem to want to ***** about THAT.
i think its a fine thing it got reported, it got investigated and the children (who ARE after all the main concirne here) were protected. so it turned out nothing untword was going on, so what? better to be safe than sorry. and id certianly want judgments about what kind of nude childrens photos are ok being decided by a CPS investigation, than too leave it up to the judgment of the local photo-hut flunky.

The main problem with this line of thinking is THE EMOTIONAL DAMAGE caused by the frankly stupid misinterpretation of innocent family photographs... most people never recover from charges of child pornography, as I am sure we all know. Not to mention the trauma of having your kids taken away... over something stupid?

And you think you would be HAPPY if a bunch of agents raided your home, took away your children and told your friends and neighbors that you were a pedophile? This story is about more then a simple mistake made on the part of the police leading to a false accusation... this is about a couple having their names dragged through the dirt LITERALLY for being completely normal. It's just wrong, and several people should lose their jobs over this. Perhaps have their names dragged through the dirt.

On a side note... I see absolutely NO reason to simply assume that wall mart employees, in part or in general, are stupid. People have reasons for getting jobs at those kinds of places... maybe they couldn't afford to get a college education? Maybe the economy sucks, and now the have no viable career as an auto-mechanic? Maybe without people to do the jobs that you might think of as low our society would crash burning to the ground?

Are there stupid wall mart employees? Yes. Are there stupid everything else? yes! God, sometimes the sheer ignorance of people baffles me. I happen to be in the market for a new job, and I am looking at wall mart as a possible employer; does that make me any less intelligent then any of you?

This shit is just downright retarded. One of my friends, he brought a picture of his baby sister to school, to show all of his lady friends, and he got suspended for possession of "Child Pornography".. Simply because his sister was 6 months old, and was wearing just a diaper.

Kinda. All people who have sex with children are paedophiles, but not all paedophiles have sex with children.
I assume the point you are trying to make is that eventually it will be understood that paedophiles are not evil, but have a problem, whether psychological or genetic.
I agree entirely, its a sexual preference just like sado-masochism, beastiality and homosexuality. The difference however comes from the fact that preferences such as beastiality and paedophilia involve non consenting parties, or individuals without the level of intelligence/maturity to give said consent.

So whilst I can agree that paedophiles need to be accepted as human beings with a problem that needs to be fixed, I can't say I believe it will ever be accepted by society, purely because acting on the impulses that come with it is harmful to society.

But only in America would the entire process go as far as the kids ACTUALLY BEING TAKEN AWAY by child services before someone says "what the fuck?". To get to that point it would have been put past the store manager, then to some level of relevant authority like the police, who then would have put it to child services,who would have then taken people over to take away the kids. HOW IN HELL did it get this far without someone piping up saying "Wait a minute, this is totally normal, there's absolutely no ground for sexual abuse". The only place IN THE WORLD where it would get to that stage is America, because you have a bunch of paranoid panicky twats over there who will jump at the first opportunity to blow shit out of proportion.
