We just need something that will unite gamers of all kinds! Maybe we finally need that cross platform game that will live up to its hype. That might help to know that both players get the same experience.

Just like all human stupidity, it depends on the subject.
I like games and I don't care which platform they are on. Sure, I might get angry at gaming companies for not releasing a game on PC (damn you EPIC, I wanted GoW2), but I won't go and say "Ha ha, screw you, PS3 users, no L4D for you!". I just tend to think "Man, that sucks for them... maybe they'll get L4D2".
I remember saying "what an awesome game! too bad I don't have a PS2" when I first saw Shadow of the Colossus. I didn't retaliate with some stupid comment like "yeah, but I have THIS game on PC and you don't".

But there's nothing you can do... people will always fight each other over the stupidest things. They will kill each other over religion, football teams, political viewpoints, etc.
It's like MAC users vs Windows users.
It's so...
so...
just shut up, will you?

p.s. If you feel the need to modify the game to make it playable/enjoyable, why the hell are you wasting your money on buying it?!
.... Why do some console gamers seem so hurt by this... I would love if console gamers could mod their games and use dedicated servers, but I don't think PC gamers should suffer just because console gamers can't have them at the moment(ok, you can in some games, but usually not)! PC gamers have always been able to mod and create their own servers, so I don't why we have to be like console gamers? I'm not saying PC gamers are better or anything, we just have different tastes then console gamers.

And to answer your questions why: We like the original game and we play it. But sooner or later we get tired of it and want to try something new. Or we just get an itch to create something we can call our own. Allot of game designers have started their career this way. They start by making a mod or two and then when they feel confident enough they make their own game.

Personally I think this protest is a good thing. This way IW can be warned before hand and get a chance to "fix" the game before the release. Otherwise they would just risk loosing allot of money.

Good on IW, may other developers follow suit.
What about those who like the original AND modded content? Why not get 2 awesome things in one game :)

I'm sorry, but that's really narrow-minded of you. Now in some cases people might modify a game because there's something about it that they want to change just for personal taste or preference, but a lot of people mod games for the sole purpose of creating new gameplay and content to add more to the game.

Here's an example: http://www.youtube.com/user/JKOatsie#p/u/5/aDJEXkpF1Xw

This is Star Wars: Jedi Academy unmodded. On its own it's pretty fun, but after a while the game got stale and the community fell into disrepair due to some (very) stupid groups of people.

Couple years later, after a lot of hard work and community support we have a large TC/modification called Movie Battles II: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vk6V5UHCxRk

The mod wasn't made because people didn't like the original game. It was made because they loved it and wanted to add onto it, and because they wanted to use some of those creative juices to make something really awesome.

Sometimes it's because of modifications like this that people actually buy a game. So why exactly do you think game developers shouldn't allow this sort of thing?

Well! We should all look at it from a happy perspective, now the PS3/360 fanboys are getting along for once! It's like what Rush Limbaugh does to democrats and republicans, making people unite for the cause of hating! :D
Wait so does anybody actually like Rush Limbaugh?
Not that he's given anybody reason to.

Even Jay Leno put him on the spot when he was on his show and Jay's probably one of the nicest guys in show business.

I play PC and console but I don't like cod so I'm not sure what started the latest flamewar. What I can say is that when someone spends a lot of money on something, they don't like others telling them (or later learning) it's crap.

Preferring the PC over all consoles isn't elitist. It's simply the right decision. It's the only way to play RTSes, and a much more precise method of aiming in FPSes. And please note that I'm saying this while on an out-of-date PC which can't run any recent titles. I hope to build a new one soon, though.
But a pad is way better! I mean it works so well, what with the auto aim crutch needed to make it work and all.

I get the feeling you haven't played many mods.

Mods don't just change bits of the game, some mods are total conversions and are a totally different game that just use the engine from the game they were modded from. They allow for people who usually couldn't get their game to a large crowd out in the open, and the person can give their game to a community for free and extend not only the life of the original game they built it on, but if it's a really good mod it can be converted into a game of its own.
See Counter Strike, Team Fortress, Day of Defeat, Killing Floor were all free mods for games first.

Mods can also give game creators a place to experiment gameplay styles without needing to splash out on making a multimillion dollar game just to see if it would work or not. Games such as Demigod which was made by an already established games developer took the gameplay styles from DOtA (a mod) and made them into a full game instead of just a free mod. Showing experimental styles of some mods can prove to have a huge impact on the way some games play and thus expand opportunitys for new games.

Mods are good for gaming as a whole, the above are just some of the reasons, and I really hope you don't mean this quote.

Modding is a priveledge not a right. They don't have to allow you to. They should be allowed to keep thier vision of thier game intact. If you have skill to mod a game hurray for you. They don't have to allow you to distribute it though.

I look at it like this. If I bought the Mona Lisa and drew a mustache on her lip no one could say jack. I own it and I can do whatever I want. People might be pissed but oh well. They don't have to look at it. I did it for my own pleasure. What I can't do is go into a museum and draw the same mustache on it. Regardless how awesome it would look.

THIS

Its not because its a difference of picking and choosing (even though that greatly helps and its awesome), its a difference of speed and non-laggineess in dedicated, and for the simple reason that it SHOULD be in a PC game, so fucking what if consoles can't, why take it away from PCs?

And for all the retarded people LOLMODSARECRAPPYWHYHAVETHEM, why is sandbox so fun in halo 3, why is zombies fun? because its a break from the norm, and its user created, something to call your own. Mods are just more complex, using a games engine to possibly create a whole new game, I remember a GoldenEye: Source mod, which recreated the game pretty faithfully, just with better graphics

Games are art. You go out and change another persons artwork for the rest of the viewers to see when the curator (AKA the devs) don't want you to.

Don't get me wrong though some devs treat it like art class. They give you the tools and tell you get as creative as you want. And good on them. That doesn't mean they all should. Or be blackmailed into it.

Doesn't mean you ruin the original that everyone sees however, just the people that want to see your changes do.

Yeah I agree, I do see it as a huge shame if they don't though. The best games I'm playing at the moment all started off as mods.

I agree some people will want their games untouched, but I think it is a bad business move because whatever anyone makes is going to need your game to run, someone makes an amazing mod, word of mouth spreads, you get money from people buying your game to play the mod aswell as seeing what you made.

The only problem with I have with MW2 not having mods is it will destroy the competitive side of gaming, without the PAM mods we had for the other CoDs, leagues are going to be harder to organise fairly. I only ever played a Rifles Only mod in Call of Duty 2, and that ended up getting mixed with PAM and having it's own tournaments.
This move will ruin the competitive community, which I don't want to see die as I used to be a part of and it was so much fun.

It also gave alot more life to the game as I was playing it longer even though newer games were out because of the teams we had formed and had fun with jesting rivalry between each other, jumping into each others servers and seeing if any of the other teams wanted a match.

Which is another thing that IW are taking away with not allowing dedicated servers. It just hurts the community, and I really don't think that does gaming any good.

Well. I Agree there should be better co-operation between PC and Consoles. I want more games like shadowrun that let PC gamers and Consolers to play together. If that happens then the world of Gaming will be a much better place.

Also, I decided to try to download a single mod for Fallout 3 last night - I just wanted a character with long hair. Before I could download the mod for long hair, I had to download the mod for a bunch of new outfits. Fair enough, I thought. To get the mod for new outfits, I had to download a mod that made every woman in the world have realistic breasts. Who the fuck makes things like this? It's actively driving me to play on my consoles more.
Well to answer the question on why it is because they can and I understand what you mean about mods but that is nothign that can't be solved with a little bit of searching on how to it.

Just because you see a mod as pointless doesn't mean others do although there are fairly pervy mods I'll give you that.
