As much as I don't like the fact they're doing this (even though I never intended on getting it anyways!), I can't help but feel like PC-centric gamers deserve it. You elitists have had it too good for too long.

Also,
Last gen Medal of Honor > Current gen Call of Duty.

Oh, how petty of all you PC gamers. You've had it too good for too long.

Or, more logically, removing dedicated servers might be some sort of cost-cutting measure. After all, this is an economic recession, and Activision/Infinity Ward are businesses as surely as PC gamers are not.
MW2 is already 1 of the most pre-ordered games ever. Infinity has plenty of cash rolling out its pockets.

A boycott would just come across as pretentious, and will fail. Especially after this L4D2 silliness. A better solution is to point out to IW that PC sales will suffer if they don't include those quintessential features. In this case, the market will eventually kick them in the ass, specifically in the wallet, and then they will take notice. Where a boycott comes across as a bunch of elitists trying to organize there whining, a large number of individuals independently go, "Meh, you stopped making a quality product, and I feel no motivation to buy an inferior product", THAT will make IW listen. It doesn't even need to be a massive movement, just a noticeable percentage.

Hey, thought you might like to know that IW is at least considering your concerns [http://www.destructoid.com/infinity-ward-won-t-ignore-modern-warfare-2-petition-152529.phtml].

That's about the best you can ask for right now.

I never considered buying the game, so, consider me a part of your boycott. :D

Taking it away from PC gamers? Last time I check IF owns Call of Duty and "owes" gamers jack squat. It's amazing the sense of entitlement people on the internet have about videogames.

Get over it, seriously.
Hey, did you know that air strikes, knife throwing, as well as the new gunship and predator missile perks were all mods from the PC version of CoD?

Did you know the first CoD was released on PC exclusively, and the next game was fueled by the funds acquired from all the PC gamers who purchased it?

IW may not owe every single one of us, but they owe it to the PC community to support us.
And you're getting it with the IWNET system so you don't get to level 50 in 2 rounds and you actually relax and have fun.
God, everyone against this is so unbelievably ignorant on the matter it boggles my mind.

I assume you are referring to quick-boost servers. They exist. DEAL WITH IT. Or do you need IW to hold your hand and make sure you don't cheat to get to the higher levels? NORMAL SERVERS EXIST. There are at last count about 5 thousand of them for CoD 4. Not every server is one that will give you 10,00 points per kill.

Every argument I see is by someone who is not a PC gamer, and thus does not understand what we are being denied because they have never experienced it themselves.
Oi. What the hell do you want from IW? They're giving you games you have near complete control over, they're giving you a way to migrate between servers as a clan, they're blocking cheating better. What more do you want?
Stop blindly listening to everything that IW tells you. The problem here is that not enough people realize why we are so angry about this whole mess.

Here are the facts. IW.net will have MAYBE a tenth of the amount of customization that a PC server can have. IW.net's party system will be infinitely inferior to that of a clan server. I'll let you look at it like this. A clan server is always up, gives a decent ping to everyone in the room, and is a place where the clan can just hang out and play whenever they want. They don't have to wait for their clan buddies to log on to get a good game going, they just enter their own server, play with the random dudes in there, and wait for their buddies to join them in the server whenever they log on.

Party system demands that every member you want to play with is with you at that second. If you're already in a game, then tough luck. They can't join you.

About the cheating thing, dedicated servers HAD anti-cheating measures. THEY WORKED. In addition to this, server admins could ban and kick people who were say, glitching, which would not be caught by said anti-cheating software.

Everything that they are saying about IW.net being better is FALSE. Our system WORKS. It has for over 10 years. It still will. It has also been proven that when games use systems like IW.net it DOESN'T work. F.E.A.R 2 and Operation Flashpoint 2 are some of the recent games that would have had a suburb multiplayer had it not been for the lack of dedicated servers.

Stop believing everything that 402 tells you, most of the stuff he states is pretty false.

So because we have had a better game before, we "deserve" to have our games downgraded to what consoles have?

Anyway, I wasn't really planning to get MW2 because I heard there would be modding issues. Now, with dedicated server support out, I'm pretty sure mods won't work at all, so the game is completely worthless to me.

No dedicated servers, no sale for me. I play COD4 only on dedicated servers, because I can choose local Australian ones with low pings, friendly communities and free mod content. If they want to make some matchmaking system, fine, but there's no reason to take out dedicated server support. It reeks of trying to control the game so they can milk us for money for things that the PC gaming community usually makes for free (think Halo 3 map packs!) and we all know how much Kotick and Activision are in love with milking shit for money.

No, perhaps I worded that wrong. PC gamers deserve it because, typically, they're snobby elitists.

Are you gonna give the system a go before saying it's false? How do you know 402 is lying about this? Have you played the game?

At least it's not 20 years ago, where the only online was LAN. Be grateful that IW is still including MP in a brand new system that might become Industry Standard in 3 years.

Did you know that there are companies that run dedicated servers? If all PC games were like that then that would kill business.

Why should the PC community be GREATFUL?

I keep saying this over and over again, but dedicated servers WORK. THEY ARE NOT BROKEN. Why the hell would they just force this new system upon us? My only theorie (that is probably correct) is that Infinity Ward wants to start charging us for map packs, and along the line, maybe a monthly fee for the multiplayer itself.

THERE WILL BE DEDICATED SERVERS RUN BY IWNET CREATED BY THE PEOPLE FOR THE PEOPLE BECAUSE THE PEOPLE WANT TO PLAY.

I'd rather get the game and have some fun for a bit rather than moan about dedicated servers.

Is boycotting the new fad this year? Seriously, IW aren't going to care if a few disgruntled PC gamers don't buy their product. Yes it's annoying there're no dedicated servers. Yes it's annoying that the game can't be modded, but a group of people from one platform choosing to not buy the game won't change anything.

Exactly, they see how Halo 3 players will pay money for map packs because there isn't that wealth of player made maps and mods that PC gamers can make and use. If everone is forced to use their corporate controlled system with no player owned servers, then they can milk PC gamers for money for map packs just like they can milk us for money too.

If they wanted to give PC players a better experience they would let us continue using our dedicated servers in addition to their new matchmaking system. They aren't.

Was going to get it on PC, new gaming PC.

However, I'll buy it on 360, like I did with MW1 and WaW.

I don't understand the hate on the L4D2 boycott. It was started on legitimate grounds, L4D1 was being ignored and we weren't getting any of the content we were promised. Also many major bugs have remained unfixed.
Matchmaking was crapola in L4D and they still haven't made much attempts to fix it.

Aaaaalso, the SDK was delayed for NINE WHOLE MONTHS, and when it was released they announced the sequel. The lack of the SDK made me drop out of L4D, and I stopped playing it about a month before the survival "GOTY" update (ha!).

I don't know about COD games but I'd be pretty pissed if any Source engine games got the mod feature removed from them. And at least the server browser still remains in L4D, only it's accessed by console commands.

And then the L4D2 boycott leaders bailed on us, and have succumbed to bribes from VALVe (lol)

]If you haven't heard already, Infinity Ward has released the information that there will be NO DEDICATED SERVERS and NO MODS for the PC version of Modern Warfare 2. When it comes to computers, one of the most fundamental advantages a PC gamer has over a console gamer is the ability to mod or play mods. This can keep an old game fresh, bringing new and innovative ideas and gameplay to an otherwise stale/outdated game- just look at Half Life. This is something that Infinity Ward has taken away from the PC community. Addressing the lack of dedicated servers... really? I mean honestly, not only does this take away an essential part of the multiplayer experience that many PC gamers have come to love, but it also means that no clans can have their own servers. Now, I'm not big into the clan system, but I know there are a lot of people who are; clans = communities. Infinity Ward has basically taken away a vital part of the PC community.

Not to mention, there is no reason for not having dedicated servers, absolutely none at all. They've always had them in the past, it makes no sense to stop having them now, especially since there are more people than ever interested in Call of Duty and its multiplayer. If they axed the servers for more money that just goes to show how much they no longer care about the gamer.

If you agree with this then join me and (some others) in boycotting Modern Warfare 2... you mess with the PC community, you mess with one of the most powerful forces in society.

By the way, this is in no way meant to blame console owners. After all, it's not your fault, it's IW's.
You forgot the 20% price increase for the PC version... that, and because of how big of douches Activision have been lately, are why I'm not buying the game...
