Ignore Neverwinter Nights 2. It's shit, completly lost the charm of the original. Get NWN1 and SUCK IT UP I KNOW THE GRAPHICS ARE BAD.

Oh and sometimes It has freaky issues with certain graphics cards, turn off shiny water.

Just FYI, I don't live in a cave, all the bolded ones I have played on my 360, Orange Box is probably worth picking up on PC though, and if some of these games have good mods it could be worth a second look.
You played the Orange Box on 360, you live in a cave...

OK that's a bit harsh, but. All the games in Orange Box work a lot better on PC, especially TF2 which has masses of user generated content, more players per server and the various extra maps/player updates (have/will they appear/ed on Xbox?). It's all free too.

Plus it's way easier to find nice people to play against (like me...).

Also you mentioned Far Cry.
If you havn't played it get the original. Very different game to the console versions.

TF2/Orange box for PC is worth it just to get rid of XBL-assholes.
Actually, that game has some of the most polite people on XBOX live
Also I'm sure that's just a matter of contrast as, if there were a game on XBL called "Auntie Mary's Manners and Cookie Recipes", then you'd get called a buttfu@ker every time your snikerdoodles came out better than MasterChiefRules420666Thirten's.

Do not... I repeat... Do not buy games that are console ports. Learn this now before you make the mistake. Only buy games that are developed for PC and primarily for PC. If you get a port, you get a poorly made, unoptimized, stutter fest with tons of glitches that simply don't get patched.

Now, if it's a PC game that gets ported to console, then it's not a big deal. You'll learn the difference in time. Mainly, games that you'd think are made with PC in mind (mainly FPS, although this is not always true), then they are safe to buy. Otherwise, don't bother.

As for games, tons. Not so much a ton right at this very second, but many are coming out in the next few months. I'll just make a list of games I enjoy/are coming out that I am looking forward to.

Civilization 4 WITH expansions
Galactic Civ 2 WITH expansions
Age of Empires 3 with or without expansions (with is better, if only for more variety)
Company of Heroes... but ignore online play for a bit. Game is severely imbalanced and has been metagamed to death.
Medal of Honor Airborne (surprisingly good, albeit a bit short)
Orange Box. You'll thank me if you are a fan of FPS.
Call of Duty 2 and 4 (3 is console only, sadly)
Farcry 2 (when it comes out)
Red Alert 3 (when it comes out)
Brothers in Arms... the new one (when it comes out)
Oblivion (must experience it despite it being incredibly drab and dull after a while)
Neverwinter Nights 2 if you're in to a D&D-esque game

Those are just off the top of my head.

Orange Box is a definite on PC, I'd also like to reiterate Starcraft and The Witcher.

Edit: Btw, if you want Civilization IV, I believe Valve sells a package for $60. On Steam, of course.

5 gigs of RAM...Are you running a 64-bit OS?
Like I said, I'm a newb at PC gaming, I don't really have a gigantic computer that sucks out people's souls through it's disc drive, I'll upgrade later, I CAN run STALKER, the recommended RAM for that game is 1 gig, and my system meets the other requirements, so I'll be fine, and all you PC gamers, please don't kill me, I'll upgrade after I get suggestions okay?
Err, I meant that if you aren't running a 64-bit OS, your computer will only be able to use 4 minus whatever amount of video memory your graphics card has gigs of RAM.
So, if you have an SLI setup with two 768-mb-of-RAM cards, how much RAM would your OS recognize if you had 4 gigs of RAM and it was a 32 bit OS?

Quoted. For. Truth.

Also, World in Conflict, CoD4, and even if you dont go and spend a shitload on the Valve collection, at least buy the orange box!

Also, go oldschool and find Homeworld.
I'm so glad to see someone mentioned Homeworld. Undeniably one of the best RTS's there's been made so far. MechCommander 2 warrants a mention as well. As many have already mentioned, anything Half-Life is a must. Bioshock and F.E.A.R. as well. Assuming you've run the gamut of console games, I'm going to suggest you try your hand more at RTS games, as console versions are few and far between and never do the PC version justice. Anything from Homeworld, Starcraft, and Warcraft to Age of Empires, Civilizations, and Company of Heroes. Also, do yourself a favor and get Steam. There's a slew of titles on there from a lot of different companies spanning all genres, not to mention free games and mods. You're pretty much guaranteed to find something you'll love on there.

About 2464 mb.

Thank you, PersianLlama- I've always been curious about that....

Now, Spartan Bannana, I also recommend The Witcher- it has a wonderful story, as well as a very badass protagonist... But it is an rpg, so maybe you'd like it, maybe not. If you do get the game, though, get the Enhanced Edition.

Your Welcome, and yar The Witcher kicks ass, I'm just too broke to afford the Enhanced Edition :( (I have the original, but I wants the extras)

I'll try to recommend a wide variety of games that you would enjoy. Some of these games are rather old, but they are all fantastic and they truly show some of the best aspects of their genre.

Freespace / Freespace 2 - Both of these games are simply stunning. If you have a joystick it is even better. But for a space sim, it's not that bad if you don't have a joystick.

Homeworld / Homeworld 2 - Homeworld is the game that thrusted Relic into the mainstream. When Homeworld was released, Relic had something like ~15 employees. By then end of Homeworld 2 development, that number had grown to nearly 100. Even by today's standards they are unique games that have fantastic story and awesome music. The Homeworld soundtrack won many awards on its own.

Painkiller - If you like FPS games then this one has a lot to offer. It's all about you killing everything that moves. Each weapon is fun to use in their own creative ways, and the Graphics are sleek, and efficient.

Rainbow Six: Raven Shield - The Rainbow Six series started out on the PC being one of the first tactical shooters ever released. You can't take more then 1 or 2 bullets, and neither can your enemy. The AI is solid and doesn't get in your way either. I'd recommend the older ones but they may be considered outdated.

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory - The 3rd Splinter Cell in the series. This is definitely my personal favorite. And that is also the sentiment of many other Splinter Cell fans. You may or may not have played the console versions, but if you haven't then this one is worth checking out.

That's all I got off the top of my head. :O

Erm, you haven't played Far Cry. At all. Play the original and only Far Cry on your computer. Please. For the children.
