I used to be absolutely convinced of this, but as of late, things seem to be looking up. Off the top of my head, the PC versions of Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed are quite excellent, Mass Effect being noticably better on PC. You still need to be careful about your ports (Gears of War), but the console port business isn't nearly as bleak as it used to be.Credge post=9.73131.784931 said:Do not... I repeat... Do not buy games that are console ports. Learn this now before you make the mistake. Only buy games that are developed for PC and primarily for PC. If you get a port, you get a poorly made, unoptimized, stutter fest with tons of glitches that simply don't get patched.
Of course, this is probably a moot point anyways, because he's coming from console gaming, which means any games that would be ported to the PC he'd already have available on the console.
Oh, and if you like RPGs, The Witcher is definitely a very good game. Go for the enhanced edition on Steam. They re-recorded all the dialogue, and it makes all the difference in the world.
