BULLSHIT BULLSHIT BULLSHIT!

You want everything consoles have to offer?
Elite Xbox 360 - $400
80gig PS3 - $400
PS2 (NOOOOO backward compatibility in new PS3s) $150
Wii - $250
Live Subscription: One Year, $50
Much lauded 1920x1080P Telly - Bout $1500
Friends want to play with? Tack on an extra $50 per friend, per system for new controllers.

By my reckoning thats around $3000 not including an audio system or the better cables to hook everything up, (HDMI for the 360 and PS3; Component for the PS2 and Wii)

Now Lets compare a PC gaming rig.

Able to play everything on max settings (even Crysis which sucks anyway) - 1500

New 24inch 1900x1200 Monitor - $375

Still seem pretty expensive compared to one console? My $1500 P.C. is 4 years old, I'm running a socket 939 mobo with DDR ram. You wanna know how much I payed to upgrade it enough for Crysis (which sucks anyway)? $250 for a new 8800GTS 512 KO.

How much money will you spend when it comes time to upgrade your consoles? That's right, all that money minus the TV. Who's got the better deal now?

P.S. Everyone calls complete bullshit on Chefmaster for not knowing what the hell he's talking about.

P.P.S. JimmyJames, your 8600 was a P.O.S. when you bought it, what made you think it would be any better now? (really not trying to be mean but it's a REALLY bad card, if you would have gotten an 8800GTS or an 8800GT it would still play everything fine.)

you forgot the money for an xbox too since the 360 isn't fully backwards compatible and the 80 gig ps3 has it for the most part, a few more fixes and it should be fine

$3000 + Used Xbox, = $3001

Fixed ^o_O^

P.S. The 80gig PS3 is software (emulation) based just like the ThreeSixtah, so we'd prolly of need one of both. You know, just to be safe.

If you're going to list out the expenses of the consoles and not the best components for your PC, then don't compare. Last time i remember, if you want to rig up your own PC, then getting all the parts with minimal failure and such would cost around $4500 not $1500.

I don't think PC gaming is dead, per say, just stalled a bit. It may seem dead, or losing its footing, but if you count all of those mom n' dad friendly casual flash games on the interwebs, then PC gaming is NEVER going to be dead!

Hell, the PS2 is last-gen, so it should be dead by those stand points, but it's still going strong.

Mah 2 sents.

I AM listing them, they equal 1500. It's not the "Ultimate, Supreme, Top-Of-The-Line" rig, but it will play everything out there at higher rez and better eye candy than console counterparts.

honetly, PC Gaming will never die mainly because of RPG's and RTS, because (someone said this earlier) the mouse and keyboard are way better to control then a controller.
also the modders who continue to deliver quality ideas and new gameplay to games
also counterstrike will never die
hell i still play starcraft which is old as hell (by gaming standards) and its still fun as hell
and i mena the playstation got it right by not chargin extra for internet, Live is bullshit, pure and simple, i mean your paying extra to use your own internet

PC's games physics are largely better i mean consoles dont have shit compared to games like company of heroes and other games that have destructible environments, actual things like gravity, wind effects etc.

all PC gaming needs is dedicated developers like blizzard to create quality awesome game, its not jus gonna fade away

You're comparing the top-of-the-line gaming experience with all the consoles, a superb TV, and excluding an amazing surround sound and HDMI cables for best resolution, and comparing it all to a "PC that will get the job done". That doesn't really equal up to a fair comparison.

DUDE? When was the last time you checked? You can get a freakin' dual socket enthusiast mobo, two workstation procs, 16 gigs of ddr2 ram, and four graphics cards for that kinda dough, and still have enough left over for a 30 inch 2560x1600 monitor.

THAT is precisely what's wrong with people when it comes to making any decision. Misconceptions.

I have been gaming on both PC and consoles almost as long as I can remember. I consider myself reasonably unbiased. Arguing about which is better is irrelevant.

What is relevant is that my local Gamestop no longer has a PC section. Dying? Probably not. Certainly in decline at the moment.

It does equal a fair comparison because it's a MONEY comparison and that's what everyone who champions consoles are always on about. Also what makes you think that the computer I've quoted WON'T offer the a better gaming experience in terms of graphics and game play? How is a $1500 TV more "Superb" than a $375 monitor? Do you actually know anything about the PC rig I'm comparing all this to? It's not just "Gets the job done" I was talking about, it's "Get's the job done better than any or even ALL consoles at a cheaper overall price" ESPECIALLY when it comes to upgrades.

Ehh, but who am I to judge a computer in which i have no actual degree of computer knowlege and such to build a PC that could last the ages.
PCs have their own perk, consoles have theirs, it's all really pointless.

As my friend would say "Arguing over the Internet is just like participating in the special olympics; Even if you win, you're still a retard."

I used to love PC gaming, until i couldn't find the damn box for the Sims game which held the CD Key, so now i can never play it again unless i buy it again and i'm pretty sure my PC hates me anyway as it nearly crashed 3 times before and almost lost all of it's memory.
But that's just my experience with PCs.

Bottom line, to kill pc gaming you'd have to kill:
mmos like world of warcraft
rts games like starcraft
fps games like half-life
the modding community
better graphics
a big part of video gaming's history
lots and lots of fans and money

I don't think pc gaming is dying, if it is then the reason would be because the developers deliberately sabotage pc gaming by making poor ports such as: Resident evil 4, Gears of war, Devil may cry 3, Guitar Hero III, Lost Planet, etc) and giving consoles more priority.

But... lately console to pc ports have been quite good(Devil may cry 4, Assassin's creed, Mass Effect) and also with upcoming titles like: Spore, The Agency, Dead Space. And news of console games being given Pc priority(Resident Evil 5)

Besides most people need PC's right? And I don't have enough money to buy both a good PC and a console, but maybe it's just because I like to use my fingers while playing as opposed to using just my thumbs. But I don't really care, PC gaming's always been on the rise here where I live. And if PC gaming does die, I'll make the games to play myself.

And please stop making threads like these, why can't you console fanboys just leave us in peace!

This is DEFINITELY my gripe at the moment too. PC games as a product aren't really even in decline. The gamers that are making gaming more popular are playing on consoles, started gaming on consoles, and will probably never play games seriously on their PC because of that. Consoles are more marketable, easier to use for the average "I just played a game for the first time evar and it was teh Haloz" user, and overall more profitable for system manufacturers and game makers alike. It's greed and convenience that are driving PC games out of the marketplace and making it feel as though they don't MAKE more games for the PC when it's really just that stores have stopped selling them. Though I do seem to recall a graph somewhere showing the number of PC games produced for like, 1997-2007. Anyone got something like that, I'm curious.

I think the only reason the PC is laying in wait in the shadows is because of the sudden explosion of new consoles. The PC is going to outlast any and all systems. It's the ultimate gaming machine in the end. It's the one thing that really has potential in all departments. Also cheaper in the end to upgrade a PC than to keep buying new systems time and time again. PC may be out of sight now but it'll be back when the time is right.

I know many pc fanboys disagree, but i remember several games like the battlefield games would be pc only, now they are not even multi platform but just console only, aka battlefield bad company.
Actually there's a new Battlefield game for the called Battlefield: Heroesand it's a PC exclusive just as Bad Company is to the consoles.

chefmaster said:
pc games used to be ported to console way later, now the opposite is happening with games like halo and others.
Developers just dont want to port because it's much harder and takes more time than porting to a console. A game not being ported doesn't mean the people don't want it ported.
