So I'm browsing Facebook and I discover a group entitled "Consoles Suck".

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=114331846058&ref=nf

I begin to read the group description and realize just why some people hate PC gaming or at least PC gamers. I'm a PC gamer at heart (even though I do own consoles). PC games to me are much more complex and satisfying than others on a console. This, however, just makes me ashamed of who I am. Any thoughts?
I kinda agree. I'm a "both" but more leaning on consoles kind of guy. I try to avoid quite a bit any online interaction with players from over exposure to elitism. Though I think its rarer then I fear.

I love Boston Legal. And quite true.

Next gen my ass. Say hello to Core i7, GTX300 and HD5000. Beat me with my G9 3200 DPI hardware accuracy or lick my feet. I would enjoy fragging the thumb controller noobs.
So elite they quote technology that doesn't and will not ever exist. Did everyone else miss the 300GTX or did this group get access to it for being so elite? Who cares this entire Facebook page is exactly like a forum I stumbled on back on the old ezboard days called Anime Sucks, it was designed with one thing and one thing in mind, to get a rise out of people. I am actually kinda shocked that this has lead to an 11 page post on these forums.

Yeah, I was going for that. The only genre I play on pc is RTS 'cos it's almost impossible on console.

I have tried FPS games and RPGs but I much prefer them on console, I even recently got ME2 on pc and I am enjoying but I feel I would enjoy it so much more on my PS3.

*sigh*

The graphics on a Current PC is SUPERIOR in graphics and framerate. This is a FACT and cannot be argued against.

(FROM 2008 SO BARE IN MIND ITS ADVANCED AGAIN ON THE PC FRONT)

While Xbots and the Sony Defence Force argue among themselves, and Wii-mers (Wii-ers?) throw ever more ridiculous shapes pretending to play the tambourine or something, there is another group of gamers who quietly, happily, enjoy the best gaming platform yet invented - the PC.

And while, granted, some huge percentage of PCs are never used for anything other than Outlook and basic web, PCs remain the most flexible and happiest way to game. And, unlike Wii Sports, it won't cause you permanent physical damage.

1. Mouse and keyboard support

Well, duh. Console kids who have grown up with a controller in hand might argue, but there's still no better way of playing just about any game in any genre ? not just shooters ? than the combination of keyboard and mouse. It just works, offering orders of magnitude more precision and speed than fiddly analogue sticks.

2. High screen resolutions

While Microsoft and Sony scream about 'true HD' in their games ? but in many cases don't actually deliver it ? the PC has been happily running games at 1080p and above for yonks. In fact, the near-HD default res of 1,280x1,024 is very 2001; even a medium rig can handle 1,600x1,200 or more these days.

3. Free mods

Were you a raw naif, you might be forgiven for thinking that LittleBigPlanet et al single-handedly invented the idea of (nnnggh) 'user generated content'. But guess what? PC gamers have been coding mods (modifications) such as add-ons, total conversions, unofficial levels and all manner of other gubbins for? well, pretty much forever. And then distributing it for free, for the sheer love of it.

4. Upgradeable hardware

With the aforementioned higher resolutions and textures, chances are a new PC game already looks better than its console counterpart right now. But even if you can't run it with all the visuals tweaked to the max, processor and graphic cards prices drop so quickly that it's hardly bank-breaking to refit your rig in a year or so, for better graphics and more speed.

5. Cheaper games

Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo's licensing and publishing costs inevitably drive up the cost of every single game released, and even pre-owned games tend to be far pricier than the PC equivalent.

6. You're not tied to one online service

Imagine not having to rely on a single, central server such as Xbox Live or PlayStation Network whenever you go online. Imagine not having to suffer downtimes, silly licensing agreements, or daft console-restricting DRM. Oh wait? that's the PC online, isn't it?

7. No extra dosh needed for playing online

Okay, this only applies to Xbox Live, but who's to say that Sony might not start charging for PSN as it keeps haemorrhaging money? And yes, Xboxers can use the free Silver service, but really ? why would you?

8. Unlimited storage space

The Xbox 360 is limited to whatever can fit on a DVD (or, if you're unlucky, more than one). The PlayStation 3 has to struggle with turgid Blu-ray access and enforced installs. PC games, meanwhile, just sit happily on the potentially unlimited storage space of your hard drive. Easy.

9. Save game hacking

Like modders, PC gamers are rabidly enthusiastic about pulling apart save games and data files, fiddling therein, and finding ingenious ways to cheat or fix corrupted files. Try doing that with your Wii.

10. Unofficial fixes for older games

PC games such as Vampire: The Masquerade often get unofficial, free, support long after publishers have gone kaput and official support is abandoned, thanks to the tireless efforts of their fans. Bug fixes, enhancements, new hardware support ? it's all there.

11. Abandonware

The geek term for 'old games which you can't buy any more'. There are a huge number of classic PC titles out there from years gone by, and many thousands are available to download, legally, for free.

12. No red ring of death

Well, you only get this on the Xbox, of course, but the last thing you want your gaming machine to do is to completely konk out. At least when a PC goes wrong, it really goes wrong. Like, with fire and everything (possibly).

Hmmm how many games could I get for PC on 80 quid?
Lets find out.

Valve Complete Pack with 22 games including Left 4 Dead 1 + 2, Half Life 1 + 2 Team Fortress 2, Portal, Counterstrike Source (Including EVERY ADD ON such as Episode 1 + 2) for 52.99

Aliens Vs Predator + Map Pack = 16.74

GTA IV for 8 quid in ASDA :)

Man Christmas on STEAM was amazing. You could have gotten the Valve pack for about 22 quid.

Also the argument thats probably gonna come up with "WAAAAHHHHH NO MONITOR!" is null because it can also be plugged into a television. Solved.

The PC is better then every other game platform in every possible way other then ease of use and control preferences. Yes, I am elitist.

Glad to be one, too.
PC Games have no 4 player split screen, no "friends gaming on the couch" feeling, and are more portable so they're not better in every possible way!

Also, not directed at you Mihz00, but LOL at the pc elitists who disregard Exclusive titles as a reason to buy consoles.
Bah, split screen makes my eyes bleed and I have no friends anyway! And arguably, if you're moving the tv it's just as easy to move a pc! :p

And yea, I got my ps3 just for exclusives.

Are you really claiming that as a positive thing about pc gaming? When it fucks up, it properly fucks up. Really?

You can swap hard drives on PS3, I am not sure about 360. Isn't that just the same thing? I know there are massive hard drives these days but I don't think unlimited is possible yet.

Like you said I can argue, that it's all down what your used to. I have been a console gamer for about 15 years and I have played the odd game on my pc for the last 4 or 5 years, I am much more proficient on the sticks than with a mouse, I even have a gaming mouse.

I find even on the lowest speed setting (both in game control and on my mouse) I fly around my target and spray wildly, I guess practice makes perfect.

I would make more points but I feel crap.

Well, some genres, the best if you ask me, are limited to Pc gaming only, complex cRPGs, Turn-based strategies, hardcore simulator... Simply because you just can't play it without a mouse and keyboard. Console playing will never be taken seriously by PC gamers, because it is for the kids or the elderly or the stupid people :)

Consoles are good, I have PS3 and Wii but most of my gaming time I spend playing PC because I simply enjoy more when doing so.

Adults realize there are rewards for playing on any format, be it console or PC. PC has much more complexity, graphics, and user-control. That's just the truth.. Not to mention, MMOs. Pretty much the fantasies of all early gamers, "What if we could play with hundreds of others in a fantasy world.. wow.. maybe in 2035!" But, if you just want to pick up and play, you got your consoles, no shame in that.. you play something either way.

Anyone who gets into a fit over this subject is either a silly child or an ignorant, ass of an adult.

1) I think he means: "When an Xbox 360 overheats, you need to send it to Microsoft. When a PC overheats, you need to install another fan inside it."

2) "Unlimited" might be pushing it, but considering you can daisy-chain (well, sortof: it's probably nowhere near as efficient than standard installing) hard drives (I'm using an olde computer in which I've daisy-chained a second 80Gb hard drive to my original 80Gb hard drive), you can get really silly amounts of hard drive space. Like, 4000 Gb. That kind of silly.

3) I won't consider myself an expert in Team Fortress 2 (olde computer takes care of that), but a few months of playing it results in my able to hit nothing in TimeSplitters 2. Swings and roundabouts, etc.

I'm sorry sensible PC gamers, but your opinions of acceptance are no match for the fanboyish opinions of being created from the bellybutton lint of god himself.

I choose to play console games, I grew up with a controller in my hand, a keyboard and a mouse just doesn't feel right to me. I could PC game if I wanted to, but I choose not to.

The interesting thing is I'm betting that both PC and consoles will be losing the platform war. Who will be the winner? The iPhone will. It pains me to say it but the ultimate gaming platform will be a portable one. However, the iPhone itself wont be the winner. It's going to be a rather evolved form of it, instead. What I'm talking about is a perfect blending of the virtual world and the real world. I'm talking about augmented reality. The only logical next step beyond that would be to turn people into cyborgs.

People think augmented reality is some kind of science fiction fantasy but the tech already exists. The only thing is that people just aren't ready for it.
