PC gaming is dead to me now.

U Mad Bro?

But seriously, buy a computer thats made for gaming, and clean the damn things. don't just install 50 games, put it against a wall and let it sit and collect dust. Also, your computer does have to be upgraded about every 2 years to keep up with games. Usually just the video card but if you don't have the power to push it, just buy a tower. They're only like $900, and they'll be good for a few years. I've had one for 2 years now, Skyrim killed the video card, so I bought a $250 one, I should be good for awhile now.

To many people out there are running on computers that are 5-7 years old and are complaining that "my pc doesn't run this game FUUUUUUUU!" Sorry man, but a console will work for 5-7 years, not a PC. I know it's not fair, but I have a PS3, a 360, an a Wii (that I can't use because a rabbit ate the wires on) And I spend equal time between BF3 and Skyrim/WoW.

TL:DR Version:

If you're computer is older than 4 years, get a new one.

Yeah, but for one thing, I heard it's massive. I don't have a tiny hard drive, but it's hardly huge, and besides...steam sales. I'm a student, I can't afford that almighty seductress!
Oohhhhh... Steam Sales.

Yup, avoid it like the plague then.

I find the bugs and other issues I have to fix on my PC when they arise a small price to pay to be able to play on my preferred platform.

Ever tried to play a windows 95 game on a Windows 7 system without having to trail through FAQs, downloads and files to make it work? Go try playing Hogs Of War on a brand new computer without having to do any of that! It's not possible.
Easy. Remove Windows 7. Install Windows Xp/Linux.
Cap' Obvious to the rescue !

Removal of Windows 7 is not necessary.
One can install a few OSes each for different purposes.
There's also virtual box and similar software.
Or you can just duel-boot. Insert W-XP disc, install OS, restart computer and hit "use XP" and not "use W-7".

Meh why can't you use both?

I'm a console gamer primarily, that's the format I'll play 90% of my games on. But sometimes I want to play TF2, Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines or an MMO.

I hate the finicky part of PC gaming. I spent more time modding Oblivion and trying to get things to work than actually playing the game. It just wasn't worth the hassle. Some people like that kind of thing, and I'm fine with that.

It's just a matter of preference. I was raised with a controller in my hand, not a mouse and keyboard. The opposite is true for others.

People can't see the wood for the trees, PC gamer, console gamer, handheld gamer, none of these things matter.

We all share a common interest, who gives a fuck which device you play it on?

Apparently Publishers hate PC Gaming with a Passion. Bad, buggy Ports, bad Support for additional Hardware. One could argue that you could have Analog Hardware to play your Games with but the Support of this Hardware is very Lackluster in some Cases, so the PC Gamer will have to play a little Lottery ticket: Will this new Game be playable with the Keyboard and if not, will it support my analog Controller in a Way that doesn't suck too hard?

Will the Game even be playable at all? Thanks to DRM, you may run into Games that just wont work. Also thanks to some Copy Protection, the PC you play the Game on will no longer be a safe Place to store any sensitive Data. Thanks to EA, Videogames are now a flashy Distraction for Spyware. PC Games are in a state where you will have to learn quite a bit about Network Security in Order to identify some really serious Threats to the Security of your Data and how to avoid them.

On the other Side, sticking a Game in the Console and playing it isn't how it works. PCs are built so you can do anything with them. And some People have difficulty adapting to about a trillion possible Hardware Combinations. In your new Game there will be something that doesn't work like intended because of that.

On the Console, the Hardware is always pretty much the same all over and will probably run my new Game. If it didn't blew up because the People who designed that Hardware are massive Morons.
My PC has heat Issues when i put it in an Oven.
Cooling in Consoles is generally not that good. It's loud and ineffective compared to pretty much every single PC Setup in the World. Most Laptops have better cooling then the Consoles, so the really large Case i've bought isn't really an Argument here.

Whenever anyone in the Console Business fucks up, which happens far too often for my tastes, for anyone's tastes really, the Player is fucked.

Port of this and that Game doesn't run all that smoothly? On the PC, you can probably do something about that, without buying new Hardware. Switch off some graphical effects you can live without for example; if something like that isn't implemented in your console Version you're left to play the "stuttery Scrolls".

I really don't like running into Bugs late in a Game. On the PC, i can see if someone made something to fix that, on the Consoles i'm fucked until someone decides to patch that.

TL;DR: With a Console, you will have to buy Hardware that is built to very low standards and may not survive until a Patch for you new Game is out.

With a PC, Publishers hate you and will try to install Spyware on your Computer. As will everyone who "helps" you with this or that Problem.

All in all, if you build and install your PC, you can be relatively sure that the Person who builds and installs your Gaming Platform doesn't want to screw you over.

consoles have problems to and I personally think the PC is better then PS3, Xbox360 or Wii,
first person shooters work horribly on a controller and you can't play strategy games, the online is OK but on the Xbox it costs (which I think is ridiculous). The only games I play on consoles are exclusives.

Heh sounds to me like the OP has an old machine and doesn't know how to fix or maintain it. Also...Sound card? Unless you're doing some sort of recording studio nonsense, why on earth would have a sound card? Pretty much as a rule, if your computer is 2yrs+ its time to either upgrade or get a new one. THAT is why its more of a hobby than console gaming. PC gamers have to invest more time and money...and if you're willing to do that, then you'll get what you pay for.

Honestly, its not a difficult task to maintain a healthy PC and the hardware available for a PC now is so much more advanced than anything in any console...its just a laughable thought to compare the two.

Its not being 'elitist' its just the truth. That said, I still use my cosoles. Like right now, I'm playing through Skyward Sword. Also, I'll probably buy prototype 2 for my ps3. I use my xbox+kinect for netflix...waving my hand at the screen to move stuff around is just awesome. Its almost like the Haptic Adaptive Interface from Mass Effect...haha.

WOW. Wow. I understand the feeling. If it took the people that fix my computer three tries to build a working OS, I'd be ready to chuck it out the door, too. Godspeed you, sir, and may the software issues of the consoles be simple enough that your gaming fixers can make the machines work as advertised.

About seven years ago if you were to ask me if I was a PC gamer, I'd stand tall and arrogant waving a flag and say "yes" then go on to denounce console gaming for its inferiority and pretty much say anything else imaginable that would embarrass the crap out of me today. But over the years I've slowly and surely moved away from PC, starting around the time the PS3 dropped in price to something reasonable, and now I won't even buy "must buy only" games for the PC such as Skyrim and such.

I try to think back to why this has happened and today after spending eight hours pulling my hair trying to get games on steam to work I've realized why.

The truth is, I just can't take it anymore.

Call me lazy, call me even stupid for not trying hard enough, say that it's all my fault, but honestly, I don't care anymore. I'm sick and tired of trying to fix this problem or that. Tired of it being my PC's fault the game doesn't work. Tired of my anti virus freezing up the game. Or having to re-install my sound card to get sound to work in Bioshock (which hasn't done it).

I am just sick and tired of spending all day, all fucking day on this forum and that, sometimes going on weeks trying to hunt down that one stupid reason a game isn't working when it should.

Today, every fucking game on my Steam library wasn't working. After five hours of trying to figure out what was going on and nearly deciding to reformat my PC (again for the 3rd time this month) I find out Steam has been down with certain clients and had decided not to let anyone know. I had to find out about this in some back alley of the google search engine after the 17 page. So, fuck you PC gaming. I have my Xbox 360, I have my PS3. SWTOR ended up sucking anyways no thanks to it being a rip off clone to an MMO that's over seven years old and shouldn't matter anymore. And since Diablo 3 isn't coming to any console, I say I care less to that too.

I'm done, thank you really for nothing but years and years worth of head aches...So long, farewell, good.....fucking.....bye

Wow, that felt....GOOD! XD
Welcome to the dark side friend . Score one for team console!

OT: this is the exact same reason i don't play pc games . Word for word, only it didn't take me 7 years to figure this out , it only took me 6 months . Better late than never, and we consolers happily welcome you with open arms .

If you don't go for the shitty, restricted version of 7 (i.e. 7 Home "Premium"), then you get a free, licensed XP VM, that still works fine for games. So you don't even need to uninstall, or dual boot anything.

To each his own, really.

I've played console games since I first got an Atari 2600, but I only bought a 360 when FF XIII came out and have hardly touched it since. I bought DA 2, ME2 (well, that was a gift from my gf, tbh), just got Skyrim and...I got bored with each one of those games within a weak. I started moving from console gaming to PC gaming when I started working nights 10+ years ago, and really haven't looked back.

PC gaming means I can play online with friends (I know, I know, I can do that on my 360, but the majority of games that would require/offer multi-player games are the FPS games I find to be insipid trash). I have Vent, Sirius and my game going and have a good time.

Honestly, I'm not sure what "discussion" you hoped to gain from this topic, it seems to me more of a troll post denouncing PC gaming in light of the apparent user-error I gleaned from the information given.

But, as I said, to each his own: some folks are primarily console gamers, others PC gamers. So long as you have fun, who cares?

Gaming is evolving. And no amount of denial on the part of PC gamers is gonna improve their situation.

I don't even have to read this thread properly to wager a guess at the general opinion... ohh, doesn't like PC gaming anymore, he musn't be good with PC's, console gaming is horrible, I can herp a derp with a keyboard and mouse, like some antique from the fricken jet age, because the interwebs tells me that's leet.

Gaming is evolving, and some gamers are still banging on about PC gaming, as if it's even a contender. The PC gets an embarrasingly low amount of sales, less than 10% of console sales - it's the ugly little stepchild of the gaming industry, accept it, deal with it, move on.

The PC will become more of a niche, still the top platform for MMO and strategy games, still good for indi games - but the big titles are going to stop appearing on PC, the costs of producing a game rise all the time, soon the PC port that PC gamers complain about will be nothing more than an inconvenience. PC gamers, go buy a 360 or PS3, and utilise your PC for more unique games, use your PC for more than just gaming. It's the only sensible option but there are a lot of options out there - like learning to mod your favorite games. PC gaming has to support itself as a platform, PC gamers have to stop snivelling and trolling, and appreciate the smaller companies that support the PC.

Now trolls feel free to regurgitate that usual 'him know nothing' response, I've been a gamer since before I can remember, I write games, and I am an IT engineer (have been for about 16 years). I still use a PC for gaming, but it's different games - like Minecraft for instance. I use a console for the big titles, and keep my PC clean a fresh for indi games, game development, and the occasional hardcore shooter, like Killing Floor or BFP4F.
PC gamers need to stop banging on about the keyboard and mouse as well... digital straffe is just as bad as any woes you'd experience on a controller - controllers and mice both have their benefits and issues, neither is better or worse, it depends on the game and how or where you want to play.

As a side note, I don't know anyone with the PC version of Skyrim who hasn't drained any challenge out of it. At least with console games you don't have 'console' commands to save your neck every time, it keeps games challenging and maintains that sense of achievement when you do struggle through.

For all of you. Why even bother with all that when warhogs.exe runs perfectly fine in Windows 95 compatibility mode on Windows 7? Considering how many "lazy" people we have in this thread I think I win.

And what if I don't want to install Linux or don't have the ability or want to buy XP again? I could just buy a PS2 for £10 (which I already own) and the game for pennies and problem solved.

I hate the argument that "oh if you did this this and this then it's easy"!
Well some of us would just like to switch on a device and insert a game and go in under 30 seconds. None of this "minimum spec" crap or having to spend half a day configuring my system to play it.

I dont see why people think you have to invest thousands of pounds to get a good gaming computer.

I play on a laptop I bought in October for £500. It plays Skyrim on full settings with a tiny bit of slowdown occasionally. It plays The Witcher 2 on medium settings. It's going to be fine for the forseeable future.

Also you don't just get a gaming platform - you can do pretty much anything on a PC. If I used my HDMI out port to an HDTV and a controller I'd pretty much have a more powerful Xbox 360. With Steam instead of Xbox Live.
