PC gaming is slowly but efficiently dying. EVERY game sold on the PS3, Xbox 360, and the PC the PC always sells the least amount of copies. And lets be serious the only reason people have PCs are for info, news, World of Warcraft (Which I despise), The Escapist, buying stuff, and itunes. Besides those few things PC gaming is dying. The only people that enjoy are the crazed fanboys that every once in a while try to hump the disc drive. I admit I'll go back and play Half-life 2 every once in a while because I'm trying to pass the time til the next great console game comes out. Pcs were good for games then that went away, then they were good at customization in games and that went away, and now they're good only for porn.

Odd...I've heard people crying about this exact same thing for about 10 years now.

Yeah, maybe PC gaming is dying. But it's taking its damn time doing it, and I'm going to be sitting at the deathbed when it finally goes under.

If it is, it isn't going to happen anytime soon.

Edit: and just because shit isn't exclusive for the PC anymore doesn't mean it's going to die out as a whole, shit I'm already planning on getting a PC for gaming! Besides the only reason sales on games are going down on the PC is because it can be expensive to find/make a computer that can run games being released today and no one likes that so they buy it on a console instead.

...and?
I think it's dying because it's the most complicated. People don't want to have to figure out the system specs or whatever BUT IT'S SO FUCKING WORTH IT.

Don't forget that most of the stats refer mainly to physical sales, which is very misleading considering the popularity of digital downloads in servers such as Steam, Direct2Drive, GamersGate, etc. And the PC still dominates the RTS and MMORPG genres. And PCs are still very good for, you know, work?

Pfft... If you spend anytime outside the internet going round locally and finding out what's really going on you'd know for sure.

From the amount of LANs I go to both around me and in the city I see higher numbers and packed to the rafters in PC event with the 16-25 year olds and console events seeing only half filled with piss ass Halo fanboys 12 years old and under.

From the looks of it when I go to the bi-monthly PC/Console LAN nearer the city center I see the number of Xbox owners dwindling more and the number of the computers section keeps climbing.

It might be true however that the average age for gamers is increasing and when those gamer gets older they see the potential for getting a job to pay for expensive system required parts for their PC.

PC gaming is not dying. PC gaming, like Abe Vigoda, should be called Fish. A fish that is growing and healthy. Only it looks like it's 'dying' because it was moved from the very small tank at the dirtmall aquarium into the large tank at the mega aquarium in the gentrified part of a city, where it is happily swimming among the PS3 and Xbox 360 fish. Larger fish, but basically not even predatory towards the PC at this point. Larger fishtank, but it's just as healthy as it ever was.
I was going to say it in a much blunter fashion, but essentially this. The fact that console gaming has a larger userbase than PC gaming in no way signifies the PC being pushed out as a viable means of entertainment.

People with consoles are sick of having to have huge downloads for updates and waiting for content loading.

PC gamers are sick of crashes caused by bad graphics card support.

Pros of PC:

- WAY WAY better graphics that consoles don't get close to
- Customized and community content that consoles can't have
- Control over the setup that you have hardware-wise

I think that PC gaming is certainly NOT DYING. Gamer's who put the extra effort in to get a good gaming rig are rewarded :D :D For example I have an XBOX 360 controller for windows that I use for some games on my PC and it is SOOO good. Options :S.

If you have a console you are being ripped off and have a limited machine that cannot be upgraded easily. The graphics for the XBox 360 don't compare to a good PC.

Companies like Valve Software realize that PC is the way to go and only really support XBox 360 since it has big enough market share.

developers sure are abandoning it in droves. The increasing complexity of graphics cards and processers is making PC game development a living hell that very few developers are willing to deal with. Ask any PC developer and they'll tell you: making PC games these days is about as fun as drinking gasoline.

Graphics card complexity is climbing, but the APIs for them keep getting simpler. PC gaming is difficult because it's difficult to perform QA on a nearly infinite possible combination of hardware and software combinations.
