PC gaming is slowly but efficiently dying. EVERY game sold on the PS3, Xbox 360, and the PC the PC always sells the least amount of copies. And lets be serious the only reason people have PCs are for info, news, World of Warcraft (Which I despise), The Escapist, buying stuff, and itunes. Besides those few things PC gaming is dying. The only people that enjoy are the crazed fanboys that every once in a while try to hump the disc drive. I admit I'll go back and play Half-life 2 every once in a while because I'm trying to pass the time til the next great console game comes out. Pcs were good for games then that went away, then they were good at customization in games and that went away, and now they're good only for porn.
Im going to have to tell you this, so i'll be honest. Fear not. Just because theres a lul in PC game sales does not mean the end of PC gaming. In fact, the very legacy of gaming history's most influential titles began on PC. We just now live in an age where such entertainment is now widely available on multiple outlets. Anyways, it holds very little when someone goes gaga over an Xbox 360 having a map editor or a Netflix plug in. Or the PS3 allowing you to play classic console titles(Nintendo beats you to the punch a number of times, sorry Sony.) The PC is still and always will, have a massive advantage over it's counterparts in terms of sheer open-end possibilities and content availability.
Now, this isnt to say our Triumvirate of platform systems simply cannot compete. To the exclusion of Laptops Consoles will always have the drop on the PC when it comes to on-the-go gaming. Additionally, the social aspect of consoles are a little more enjoyable than the usual shit talk over VOIP.
To point out a few things, though. Consoles and the PC share a common heritage that leaves them inevitably linked with one another. The PC sells the least on only certain games, you cannot simply say that for every release.Such as the Half-Life port for PS2 which was somewhat enjoyable. Or the Half-Life 2 Port for the Xbox, which to an avid fan of the series was a flaming pile of crap of a port. Then there were ports that also sucked for PC, such as the GTA games, although honestly now with the ability to have USB controller pads seems a little passe . But I hope my point still stands.
In truth, PC gaming will not die, not for a very, very, gratuitously long time. In fact, at the very least PC gaming will simply hit a depression that hit the PS2 late in it's final years. PC games have been, are and always will be among the most core parts in gaming culture. It is hard to imagine a future ion gaming without the PC on the front lines, breaking barriers that a console could only imagine in it's wildest calculations.
