I get the wierd feeling that Blizzard would disagree with you on all points. Assuming they finish filling the olympic swimming pool with WoW money and of course finish construction of the second pool in anticipation for Starcraft 2 money.
Don't forget the third and fourth pools for the two expansions for SC2. Or the fifth and sixth for the sheer amount of money that Diablo 3 and their new MMO will rake in.

Oh hey world of warcraft. Debunk this whole thread, will you?

Seriously though, rpgs are always better on pc, so you're not fooling anyone. You also need a pc for WAY more than gaming.

My disagree-o-meter just broke.

I like you. Well done. That picture just made me totally forget what I was going to say.
Oh yeah, it's only "dying" in the way you're describing because certain companies... called Activision... are strangling it. Ironic that Activision want to kill it while soul sisters Blizzard make their living from PC gaming almost exclusively. Also ironic that the chap from Gears of War is trying to destroy PC gaming... Gears of War being made by Epic and distributed by Microsoft. Hmm. Spot the hypoccrisy.

It has been dying for a long time. I remember when Final Fantasy VII was supposedly going to kill the PC. GamePro said so. The end did not come back then. I also have magazines from the early 80's saying the Atari was going to kill the PC. The Nintendo was going to do the same thing, as well as the Super Nintendo.

Sorry, but PC gaming is not going anywhere. The PC is still the trailblazer for new kinds of things. Internet gaming was on the PC in 1997 with Ultima Online. The consoles had to wait 6 years until a fully online game was developed. Sure there were games with online functionality, like Phantasy Star online, but you can play it offline as well. The Consoles did not have the processing power to support a online experience until recently.

When we do have full virtual reality in our homes, the PC will be the first thing that will have the processing power to run it. the consoles will not have that power until the next generation, 2012, maybe 2015.

As much as I love my PS3, Wii, and 360, they are not going to kill the PC.

Yeah, I disagree with the whole "PC gaming dying" thing. If I hadn't started out gaming on a Genesis/Playstation, there's no doubt I would be a PC gamer today since I've used one my whole life. When I play Fallout 3 or Oblivion or The Orange Box on my 360, I think about how great it would be if I could mod the game and make it that more fun. And I imagine FPS's being a lot better with controls. Despite not being an RTS or MMORPG fan, I even realize they're superior on a PC.

If PC gaming died tomorrow, I would be sad. But then I would drown my sorrows by playing the eight million brilliantly designed $5 indie games that are published every year for the PC only. Then I would spend a few decades playing multiplayer PC games on the dedicated servers that PC gamers still maintain long after the companies have gone under and shut down their own servers. Then I would download a bunch of user mods for my classic RPG catalog (including the complete works of Bioware, Obsidian, and Bethesda) many of which are excellent, all of which are free, and none of which are available to console players.

When I got bored of all that, I would boot up an emulator and start playing allegedly console-exclusive games that never even got ported. With more customizable options. And better graphics. And my choice of control system. For free.

On my PC. *****.
So much win in this post, every point is something that passed through my mind as well upon seeing the thread title.

Combine this with the image CheeseSandwichCake posted and you might as well close this thread, there isn't really anything else substantial to discuss.

The fact that it takes so much money to constantly upgrade your PC just turns people off. I would LOVE to play so many of the amazing games on PC, but it's just too much money. console gaming is way more cost effective for most people.

EVERY game sold on the PS3, Xbox 360, and the PC the PC always sells the least amount of copies.
What about pirated copies of games? I'm sure that that amount would to be surpass something.

Not that I agree that PC gaming is dying but, for future reference, World of Warcraft isn't a reason you can use to debunk that PC gaming may seem to be dying, World of Warcraft is a cause for why PC gaming may seem to be dying. When all you've got left on the shelf at Best Buy is one game, because everybody seems to think $15/mo is all the game budget they need, the platform seems mighty barren.

"PC gaming is slowly but efficiently dying."
Really? I've been a PC Gamer for years, the last thing I've seen is it dying.

"EVERY game sold on the PS3, Xbox 360, and the PC the PC always sells the least amount of copies." That doesn't mean anything, if it still sells well, who cares what sells the least?

"And lets be serious the only reason people have PCs are for info, news, World of Warcraft (Which I despise), The Escapist, buying stuff, and itunes."
Beats consoles, all they do is gaming. PC's do that AND all that other stuff you mentioned.

"Besides those few things PC gaming is dying. The only people that enjoy are the crazed fanboys that every once in a while try to hump the disc drive."

To the best of my knowledge, I've never humped my disc drive. I'm pretty sure I'm not crazed either, unlike this guy. http://s715.photobucket.com/albums/ww152/SCPadmin/?action=view&current=s.jpg

"Pcs were good for games then that went away, then they were good at customization in games and that went away, and now they're good only for porn."

This statement is so stupid it's funny

I think it's dying because it's the most complicated. People don't want to have to figure out the system specs or whatever BUT IT'S SO FUCKING WORTH IT.
Complicated? maybe you are just dumb, ever thought of that? Also i dont see Valve having any problems with that.Another typical consoletard lol
Another typical PC fanboy/troll, instead of trying to have a competent retort to his opinion you simply imply that he is just obviously mentally inferior to your vastly superior PC future brain and call him a fanboy to disguise your obvious fanboyism, especially since you overlook the part where he says it is worth it in fucking CAPITAL LETTERS, how did your giant PC brain miss that one fuckstick?
Please do not post like this, at least try to make sense.

OP i agree that it is less popular than before and the post i quoted is spot on in saying that complexity is a big factor in choosing between consoles and PCs. However i do not see the PC every dying completely, it will just deteriorate into a sad shadow of it's former self.

If this is a fanboy troll, why are people including myself posting instead of reporting? It makes moderators think there's a conversation going on, not a conflict.

I'll vouch for this.

Let's not call something dead or dying before the coroner has his say, alright?

'pressed y to hijack thread'
you want something dead?
how about space-'sim' games of the TIE fighter and wing commander vein..?
all that seems to be left is the freepsace open community, and it seems to be the only hope of new games in this genre.

I admit I'll go back and play Half-life 2 every once in a while because I'm trying to pass the time til the next great console game comes out. Wow change this up a bit and it had been a forum, BBS, college email topic.

I saw this very same thing when AOL (when it was it's own service and not part of the net) about civilization 2 and the like.

I get a console and keep a mildly updated pc for games. Depending on what looks better is what system i get.

Save shooters, I need a keyboard and mouse for those.
