the fact that console players keep bringing up the supposed death of PC really only shows how insecure they are about their own console and are simply reassuming themselves that they have made the right decision.

Nuff said. Actually read the article and not just the heading tho as most people appear to have just skipped straight down to comments section.

Mouse and keyboard together is a near perfect blend of analog and digital control, which no console without itself becoming a PC could emulate. PC gaming can never die because the sorts of games that require extreme attention to detail, the SimCitys and Age of Empires, fair poorly on simplified controls. Text on a TV screen, because of dot crawl and moire, is unclear and painful to look at compared to that on a monitor, though HD TVs fix this problem to a certain extent.

As long as there is a market for these games, and there will always be that market, PC is relevant and useful for gaming.

I think it's dying because it's the most complicated. People don't want to have to figure out the system specs or whatever BUT IT'S SO FUCKING WORTH IT.
Complicated? maybe you are just dumb, ever thought of that? Also i dont see Valve having any problems with that.Another typical consoletard lol
Sure your not the dumb one? He said it was WORTH IT.
And you are clearly jsut another Pc elitist, a bad one at that "lol".
I thought he meant PC gaming dying and consoles taking over being worth it,I dunno

Consoles are cheaper for more processing power, graphics whatever because they are specialized. PC's will always have more junk available. PC's might be losing use, because they need to be exterminated. Would anyone consider keeping a generator in their house nonstop all the time, when you can buy it cheaper from companies? PC games might die out, but they will get replaced when cloud computing becomes common, in fact cloud computing will probably kill all consoles. Hmmmm...Topic idea!
If you consider the fact that almost everyone owns a basic PC, the cost of upgrading that PC to be able to play modern games is probably about the same cost as buying a console, so your "cheaper" argument is pretty much false (especially if you factor in the game costs).

The trend is moving towards having one machine that does everything... (see Phones).

So if anything becomes "obsolete" it will be consoles.... Why have one machine that does just gaming?

Cloud computing will kill PC gaming? Um.... ok...... ? I'm not even sure how to respond to that... because I'm not entirely sure that you aren't just throwing around buzzwords... Edit: Ah, here I think CheeseSandwichCake worded it nicely:

Now if you'll excuse me, I think I will go play some Torchlight. Hey, that happens to be PC exclusive.... Must mean consoles are dying. /sarcasm

So, after this guy made himself look like an ass by saying something that doesn't really even exist yet will kill something else I decided to look it up on wikipedia and it just looks like a pointless innovation that'll change bugger all.

Edit: I think I'll go play some Dawn of War 2. That's also a PC exclusive... crap, consoles are screwed!

Dying? Really? Didnt notice it was dying, expecially since i keep getting new games via online digital distribution and im looking foward to a dozen new PC games this year.
Didnt notice since the average PC is becoming more and more a replacement for a TV, with high-speed internet and all that.
PC gaming isnt dying. Heck, i can even play my age-old DOS games on my PC.
Until recently, you could not do the same with consoles, since they keep pooping a new ones every 5 years or so... and the consoles (ps3, xbox, nintendo ect) arent compatible with one another... but PC doesnt have that problem. Many games are released both on console and PC.

My PC can be upgraded as the tech goes up, and it will last for a while; just change the hardware inside and update the software. Consoles are expensive if you want them all, and you cant upgrade them much. And when a new generation shows up, you gotta buy it all over again.

Even if it IS dying (which it isn't), it'd take it's sweet ass time doing it.

If PC gaming died tomorrow, I would be sad. But then I would drown my sorrows by playing the eight million brilliantly designed $5 indie games that are published every year for the PC only. Then I would spend a few decades playing multiplayer PC games on the dedicated servers that PC gamers still maintain long after the companies have gone under and shut down their own servers. Then I would download a bunch of user mods for my classic RPG catalog (including the complete works of Bioware, Obsidian, and Bethesda) many of which are excellent, all of which are free, and none of which are available to console players.

When I got bored of all that, I would boot up an emulator and start playing allegedly console-exclusive games that never even got ported. With more customizable options. And better graphics. And my choice of control system. For free.

On my PC. *****.

I get the wierd feeling that Blizzard would disagree with you on all points. Assuming they finish filling the olympic swimming pool with WoW money and of course finish construction of the second pool in anticipation for Starcraft 2 money.

Even though it STILL IS BETTER FOR GAMING, the PC is dying. Computers will always be around, sure, and so will PC gaming, but it's not as popular as it was back in the day, and that popularity will still keep deminishing. I think Shamus Young explained it best, but in short it's because the amount of money you need to put into your computer just to RUN the modern PC game is redonkulous, because of the rediculous graphics standards.

"Dying" as in less popular than way back when? Sure. "Dying" as in going away some day, probably not.

the PC is the EASIEST platform to develop games on, why do you think the cost of the games are so low? because its EASIER TO MAKE. Its supply and demand.
Actually games are cheaper on the PC because money doesn't need to go to either Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo. There aren't as many fingers in the pie so you get a cheaper game.

PC gaming isn't dying and as long as people own and operate PCs there will be a market for games on them.

Been there, said that was happening to it, changed my mind, replied to several threads about it, thought more about it, wrote a blog entry about what's really happening [http://dsob.wordpress.com/2008/08/30/the-death-strangulation-migration-of-pc-gaming/].
