Maybe I don't get it.

Is there something about The Escapist posting the articles concerning LulzSec that's happened that I missed?

I think people on the site (forums mostly) talked about LulzSec. LulzSec saw it and attacked the Escapist a couple days ago.

Yeah The Escapist got ddos'd to death for a few hours by Lulzsec last Tuesday. Most think it was in response to the sites negativity towards Lulzsecs actions though given that it was Titanic Tuesday, I think it was mostly done out of request.

The only thing I've heard is that LulzSec apparently ddos'ed the site a couple of weeks ago. I don't remember it, but there were a few threads on it. I read a news article that was linked by another Escapist user, where LulzSec mentioned that they had attacked the Escapist, among other sites. Other than that, I don't know.

Edit: Oh crap. I guess I missed that attack. I just heard about the older one. Nothing really happened during that one.

Really? Didn't hear about the ddos; I don't visit this site on Tuesdays (1/2 price movies at my local theater) and I haven't been active in the forums lately. Anything interesting happen or did the site just go offline for a while?

I think the Escapist should go hit the weights cause he's looking might dainty in that strip. Maybe then Lulzsec would back off.

They got DDoS'd because some retarded teen called Lulz and asked for the attack.

This is why idiots shouldn't get access to Internet.

A good while. I'm not sure when it came back up because I went to bed shortly after (was really tired) however it was up the following morning. Can't have been down that long though probably a couple hours at the most.

Oh noes, Lulzsex got the site down ONE WHOLE DAY and NO ONE NOTICED. Truely they are a force to be reckoned with!
Well, I think for a site that makes it's money off of ad revenue, I'm sure they took notice. :p

Its fairly simple, a large portion of the community begged for it by spouting all the hate filled rhetoric, that I doubt Lulzsec could ignore any longer. Then when E in the comic sees friends, they look at E as if to say.. yeah not helping, you brought it on yourself and were not getting beaten intentionally for any reason.

At least that is the way I am reading the comic, Perhaps I am incorrect.

Yeah, how could a criminal organization possibly ignore the people complaining about their criminal actions on an internet forum? Such dire insults must be avenged. PA isn't saying "you brought this on yourself" they're saying "oh shit I don't want to get beaten up too". That's the whole point of the first panel-they were considering talking about LulzSec but then saw what it got the Escapist and were scared off.

There were numerous threads talking about LulzSec, and many posts in those threads were negative towards LulzSec, so they found out and added us to the list of sites they were going to take down that day.

LulzSec seemed ok at first :(

I found the comic quite amusing, but it was also the first time I heard that The escapist got hacked. Apparently a lot of other people didn't notice either. I couldn't say that I was all that surprised though, what with the amount of Lulzsec threads that are floating around on this site.

I will concede, perhaps I did word it poorly, and it would have been better worded as "Yeah, no were not getting involved in your fight"

However I have to ask how could a group of hackers ignore being constantly called criminals, inhuman, and have death, and prison rape wished upon them repeatedly by a large gathering and collective and ignore it?

And while were at it, this is specifically in reference to a DDoS attack against the escapist. So I would inquire, can I get a reference to what changes a DDOS attack from being a nuisance to being globally viewed as illegal activity? While were at it, What is the law that grants global jurisdiction against network intrusions due to lacking security protocols? Look I am not advocating Lulzsecs methods. But I would have to be rather thick to not understand their point of view and why this was done.

Wow I thought these hacker groups were all about free speech and internet freedom. Apparently they are as long as no one uses that free speech or freedom to criticize them.

Lost all respect for these douche bags.
