About a year ago, you couldn't go 2 seconds on Halo pc without finding some dick head with some variation of "Soulja Boy". At one point, there was 3 of them in one server and they started a flamewar. All three of them were declaring plagiarism, as if they were the actual person they were imitating.

There's one reason why there's a string of numbers (which happens to be my birthday) after my screen name here: someone always without fail steals plain "Vanguard" from me.

Take this site, for example. When I got here there already was a "Vanguard". He joined in '04. He last logged in eight days after he joined. He never posted anything that entire time. There's no point to that account so much as existing.

I'd be more pissed off if this kind of thing didn't happen on a regular basis. That's why I let my avatar do the talking for me.

EDIT: While we're on the subject of "originality"...

As I've said in these forums many times before, I didn't choose the name "Vanguard" because it sound's "cool" or because one in a blue moon the word gets tossed around in a videogame. I choose it because it describes me.

According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary "van·guard" means the following:
1 : the troops moving at the head of an army
2 : the forefront of an action or movement

So, based on that definition I chose "Vanguard" as an alias for two definitions. The first is my usual playing style in most games. Very direct and aggressive. Usually the first one into any fight. It also applies to the way I live my life. I'm a very open and direct person that always leads from the front by example and isn't afraid to do what I think is right.

I also made another alias a while back that I rarely use. "The Blind Observer". It's nice and original. I've only seen someone use it one time, and that was some asshole in Guild Wars that stole the name from me after I deleted a character of mine that had it. The only reason I'm not using it now is because I'm known as "Vanguard" in too many different circles and that alias is bound to too many different accounts.

Well, the idea for the screen name Mydogisblue was from a framed painting of a blue dog that I have in my room.

Pfft, ya'll got nuthin' on Spleeni. I'm totally serious when I say it trumps all other names. It's easy to pronounce, fast to type, AND brings images of spleens to mind. What more can you want?

If you want an original name pick an unpronouceable one...like mine.

As for my name, I just took my full name and removed al the vowels.

edit: And it wasn't to just now that I discovered that you pronounce the last three letters as
envious.

I dunno. I always find my screen name available, but that's just because who would ever think of it. Besides I think most people have the first impulse to put something close to their name, if that's already taken then they just go for those gamer123 names.

I've only seen ONE other person with my name, and I searched it on Google. I seriously think he ripped me off on purpose. I doubt anyone else could come up with this name on their own but me.

I do get sick of names like "sk8tergurl348" and "hotty_rubbisher269." If you have to say you're attractive, hot or whatever, odds are that you're none of those things. Even if you are, it just proves the massive size of your own ego.

Xbox live is absolutely rampant with it, I have seen over 500 names with more that 4 numbers in them. Usually the person behind the Gamer tag is a 11 year old prick who's main form of communication is sexual/racial epithets.

Haha. One of the best ways you can make a name is taking letters and re-arranging them to make one. My screen name is the same as my XBOX LIVE account or what you can do it take two random words and put them together. For example, I was reading through a textbook and the words that I remember were penny and cat. It may not be good but if you like cats and money...it might work.

Most screennames are OK with me, but I do have less respect for people who use numbers and non-alphabetic symbols in their names.

My name is not Anomynous and a random group of numbers, it is just an onscure reference to a book (So everyone who has a name like Spartan-117 FUCK OFF, YOU CAN'T EVEN THINK OF AN ORIGINAL NAME SO YOU JUST ADD 3 NUMBERS). Then again is I use Sinistral_Gades on the european server for Warcraft III. (An Obscure reference to a JRPG on the snes.) Which really annoys me when people try and say "IT IS SPELT GLADES" and I am like, "You don't even know what this is a shout out to, so shut up".
When Starcraft II get's released I am going to change my battle.net name to Canaris_4, not because Canaris is already taken (which I doubt it is) but because I think the "4" just sounds cool.

Oh that reminds me of one of my screen names while playing Halo PC "Sam-034" another obscure reference (This time to halo), anyways I was hosting a game, another player got pissed off at me, he quit then renamed himself "sam-034" joined the game and a message appeared on the screen something of the lines of "Sam-034: I am a gay Californian **** that sucks dicks" and I was like "I AM NOT CALIFORNIAN" and then there was this huge fight and the next thing you know, Sam-034 betrayed Sam-034... I rebutted "I AM THE REAL SAM-034 My password is on Mac.Clanhalo.net is linda to prove it."
