You're gay? Your choice, I'm obligated to tell you that I think what your doing is wrong, but invite me to the wedding and I'll probably show up for support.
So after a gay guy goes his whole life being bullied and outcast you have the gall to tell him he chose it? You're a rude, self-righteous, closed-minded, hypocrite. Until they start having gay sex right in front of you, you have no excuse to judge 'em.
D Yellow has a point. Your faith instructs you to make a judgement on something which you clearly know nothing about. But then I guess that is faith - a practice which by design is close-minded. I can't win. Oh and I wouldn't invite you to my wedding so you don't have to worry. (Phew!).

I'm in the same boat as the OP it seems. I'm a Christian, but if you believe something else then that's okay. I won't try to shove it down your throat unless you really do want to talk about it some.

But I know a few people who have issues with gays, and most of my mom's side of the family is Baptist and have actively encouraged us to not watch (or read) Harry Potter or the Golden Compass due to their "witchcraft" and "atheist propaganda," respectively. That sort of stuff drives me crazy. How can you say you've really come against "sin" and denied it when you turn tail and run when you think you're within five miles of it? And if you truly believe just the act of observing something is enough to corrupt you, no matter the opinion you form of it, then I think you really need to look over the New Testament again.

And besides, it's not our job to judge people. Jesus didn't say "you need to persecute and deny the rights of who you perceive to be the sinners of the world, considering you have such amazing abilities in the area moral choice, you decedents of Adam and Eve, you." He said "love your neighbor." Judgment is God's domain. He's got that covered. All we have to do is not screw each other over.

So, you see all people as equal, yet your next sentence is "all the bigots here are Catholics".

I guess some are more equal than others then.

I'm a Catholic myself and all religion and atheism is comparable to videogame fandom: There's the casual fans who enjoy the good parts and critisize the bad parts. And there's the hardcore fanboys who cram their opinion down your throat and who turn into wolverines when someone critisizes their believes.

People don't choose to be gay, there is scientific proof they don't choose to. So if you told any gay person what they were doing was wrong I hope they punched you right in the teeth.
This reminds me of something else that pisses me off; programs about "the science of love".

These shows always talk about how the reason why a man is attracted to a woman's breasts or hips is, because subconciencely we think that she'll be able give birth easily and be a good breastfeeder. And vice versa with women.

But then, what if you're gay? Do these rules magically not aply to gay people or is it that this "science of love" is flat out bullshit?

Atheists that act like dicks particularly this one:

Guy one: Thank God for...
Crazy Atheist: Why are you thanking a fictional being lolololol!
Or
CA: There is no god and your stupid lolololol!

Don't they realise they are acting just as bad (if not worse) than the fudimentalists they so despise?

Also any time I see that Pirate Kitty and I share an opinion on somthing, it makes me feel unclean. /jk

He's a Christian though, and even though he says he "believes in a guy who preaches love, peace and understanding", including setting every race of human and every human with every sexual orientation on the same pedestal, Christians tend to be pretty intolerant towards them, as is he.

And I mean, I don't know everything about what Jesus preached, but there don't seem to be a whole lot of Christians who actually abide by what their "saviour" preached.

I mean, god. I'm an atheist, and I'm probably morally a better person than most Christians, with their "durr, you're gay, it's wrong" attitude. Just because I don't persevere, to try and talk to some guy in the sky, doesn't mean I'm any worse, in the perspective of actual entities and phenomena we know exist.

[sub]Note, I'm not the asshole kind of atheist who every time someone says "Oh my God" I say "Why're you thanking a fictional being?" and try to shove my "beliefs" in everyone's face. No, I'm pretty much the exact opposite, but things like this, calling "being gay" wrong irks me a bit.[/sub]

With all this said, no people with similar beliefs exist that make me scream. Some do make me irked, but lawd, there are so many of those.

Technically I'm an atheist but I don't like that term. If you call yourself an atheist it implies that you made the concious decision to chose not to follow a religion. I simply haven't made that choice so I don't consider myself an atheist. You might argue that I fall into that category by default, but giving it a title suggests that it requires choice.

You're Atheist? Fine with me, I'm gonna preach the gospel.....
These two irritate me, you are not obligated to share/force you're beliefs with/on anyone at all. Which brings me to my OP point, I'm Atheist and I say believe whatever you want, just don't let me know about it. It really irritates me when you get these Atheists that attack every single Theist they find.

Most Christians I know, including myself, don't have any problems with gays at all. Heck, I'm roommates with a girl who is a very devout, practicing Catholic AND a very proud Democrat. There's all sorts of flavors out there.

From what I've been able to tell, a lot of the stigma against gays comes from their upbringing. There was a larger stigma against it back then, and it's just gotten ingrained in them, and then they use their status as a Christian to legitimize it. A couple posts up I said it's not our place to judge people, and I still believe that. What they are doing IS wrong, and it sickens me. Our only instructions as to how we were to treat other people was to love them, and treat us how we'd like to be treated. So to judge anyone for what you see as a sin is wrong. That is God's domain only.

And I'm a Methodist, in case you're wondering. I like to think of us at the "Canadian" denomination: we don't do much to offend anybody, and anything we do involves food or knitwear.

As an atheist, I have no liking for atheists who go around insulting religion or saying that those who believe in it are stupid. By doing that they become just as bad as those who are biased against atheists.

Well I'm an Atheist,(Used to be Catholic) but I'm not like the other idiots who hold the same banner as me who are going out of their way to laugh at people that don't believe what we do. I'm nothing like them, wow you're a Christian? a Buddhist? Great, as long as you don't try to convert me then make the stupid excuse that you are "saving me" or "You will burn in hell" then we're cool and I'll definitely go to that arcade with you. =P

Just a question I'd like answered, why do the annoying Christians (Not all Christians) go up to other people and preach about them burning in hell? They do know that most of them don't believe in that type of hell correct?
I've got not genuine experience to back my claims, but my guess is, many of them grew up with "You'll go to Hell if you don't accept christ" just being a given, just as we say, "If you eat food off the street, you'll ingest bacteria and get sick." As a result, it may not even occur to them that we think it sounds so ridiculous.
Another possibility is just that they are saying it to themselves just as much as they are to us. After all, if you're going to immerse yourself in a group of people who make a mockery of your way of life, it's probably refreshing to tell yourself most of them will get their comeuppance.
Just two theories.

Atheist/agnostic here, giving my vote to the annoying atheists who go out of their way to be dickholes to religious people. Live and let live, I say, although I WILL ignore/slap the shit out of you if you try to 'save me' or say that I'm going to hell.

Apparently theres a bunch of Agnostics who go out of there way to not offend their religious friends and are massive pussies. Not sure how large that particular group is but I will sure as hell rip a religious person who deserves it a new one if it will achieve something. Also to an extent the typical smug asshole atheist.

Also I love anime and JRPGs to death but weeaboos are just god-awful.

Okay, like, I'm an atheist/agnostic, and I really, really dislike the ironically holier-than-thou atheists. I honestly dislike them more than the radical Christians, who I'm also not fond of... both of them have a very annoying sense of superiority, but at least Christians (or at least the ones I've met) think they're helping you, making them simply really, really misguided. Atheists are just arrogant.
Also, I'm a libertarian with conversative leanings. I'm pretty chill with capitalism... but there's some really, REALLY obnoxious libertarians out there. It's embarrassing. u_u
Also weeaboos.

Atheists who believe that religious norms and teachings should be evaluated or treated any other way than political ones.

That goes for both ways: Religion deserves no special treatment or particular respect for being "religion", but something like condemnation of homosexuality is not worse because it's founded in an alternate view on reality: bigotry is just bigotry, be it religiously motivated or not.

This!

There seem to be a lot of people on internet forums that constantly ridiculize all forms of religion even those they clearly don't understand. These people say things along the lines of "If you're not an atheist you are dumb" and I seriously hate them for it.

I hate the atheists that try to make people stop having a faith, or just try to "eradicate religion".
For fuck's sake, people, let people believe in what they want to believe!

I'm an atheist and Richard Dawkins annoys the hell out of me! He's preaching atheism, what is that about? The beauty of being an atheist is not going around preaching your beliefs to other people. Being an atheist means I'm free of belief. I don't want some guy around who seems to be making atheism into a religion, that's madness! He's such a dick

I was born Catholic, and I hate a lot of the Churches teachings, as I find them to be hypocritical, and often contrary to what Jesus actually taught.

I'm "atheist" I guess, but I wouldn't ever want to be associated with atheists, as I find them pretentious and ignorant.

I'm liberal, but I find most liberals to be much the same as atheists, and generally to be cunts who are naive and don't come to the right conclusions in their heads.

I have some conservative views, although not many, and I hate conservative people most of all, as their unflinching inability to properly move on, and their guise of "decency" is not great for the human race (IMO)

I live in a capitalist country, but while I agree that there should be opportunity for everyone to "be what they can", I also am a realist and realise that the freedom to do so is now heavily restricted, and that the tiniest portion of the world get to the top, while the poorest have no chance whatsoever.

I believe in global warming and in environmentalism, but environmentalists are hippy idealists who can't get much done, because they lack that particular skill or support.

Similarly I believe in animal rights (to a point), and thus have no time nor patience for animal rights activists, especially the extremists.

My main beliefs are that there should be no country divides and a single, global government should rule, alongside a global language and currency, but many others who believe this are in the minority, and don't bother with trying to make this a reality, as it cannot be accomplished in our lifetime. That or they are new world order fanatics, who want to bring about a nuclear apocalypse or something.

I love heavy metal and industrial music, but metal heads and goths are try hards who irritate me, and seem to have no substance to them.

I quite enjoy a drink (or similar), but I don't like drinkers or smokers in general.

Mostly though, I like gaming, and I find the majority of the gaming community to be full of wannabe intellectuals, and fanboys, who irritate me, and delve themselves too far into their passion, causing a lot of this tabloid fueled hate and distrust of the industry. Apart from the escapist, of course

Moral of the story? Stop segregating and trying to identify yourselves with one (or more) persona or stereotypes, and just be yourself, full of your own opinions and beliefs, preferably ones learned from research and thinking for yourself, rather than something you've been conditioned to be
