People's distaste for Science/Maths

wait what?

i have never heard/seen this, most people at my college do business/arts major, which is fine, but are all looked down upon and scoffed at by us (engineer/CS/Math/Science Majors) most of the time for never having to do shit and being fucking piles.


most of the time if they don't like science/math, it's because they were too stupid to understand what the hell was going on. (not true for everyone derp)

I love science and HATE math. With science if you don't know the exact answer to something you can use logic with math your stuck.

Science just plain confuses me, as for math, one time a teacher gave me a D on a quiz because I wrote my fractions as:

I start Sixth Form in about 2-3 weeks, and I am taking Maths and Physics as two of my subjects. Admittedly I don't enjoy Physics that much, but I do like Maths, and I am thankfully quite good at it as well.

Talking about science at my school usually gets remarks of 'Why are you so smart?' (when I'm not really I just read stuff which tell me these things) and stuff like that, I'm glad my school doesn't look down on people doing well in classes, that would be hell.

That being said, I do dislike people who think Psychology is a joke. People who do think that are either reaaaally confused about what psychology is, or otherwise entirely deluded.

I get it all the time for studying theoretical physics. I just need to ignore it for one more year while I get my masters and then I can get a decent job and get paid a lot of money. Maybe I'll take out far more cash than I need and just hit them with it.

I'm in an advanced class for math, physics and chemistry, and I can tell you that in academic classes the people who hate those subjects, are the same ones who don't want to do the work. They just want to get by doing as little as possible, and then they look down on those subjects because you can't not do the work, otherwise you won't understand a thing.

And they generally don't like me because they think since I'm advanced, everything just comes naturally and I don't even need to try to do well. That is wrong on so many levels, since I do well because I put lots of effort, and have been putting effort for so long that doing and understanding the work comes easier.

I enjoy maths and science. I chose to study psychology instead of engineering at university, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy it, I'd just rather it isn't my whole life. I think I enjoy maths because a fair chunk of the time, it is just logic, whereas I enjoy the sciences because I like to understand how things work (also the reason I chose to study psychology), and I figured that living on a planet with a few billion other people, understanding how people think and act would be rather helpful.

Don't forget the sociologists. To be honest though, so far at uni, apart from my friends poking fun at me doing psychology (because it is such a switch from my straight A's in mathematics) I haven't really had any trouble. The Anthrop-/Crimin-/Soci-/etc- ologist students are fairly good about it. They tend to understand that each approach has its advantages, and that it is really a personal preference thing.

Look, people will hate the people who are involved with the subjects they hate. It is also true that people in a particular subject, will view everyone who is not in their particular subject as a rival, that they must prove their subject is useful. It's just competitive academics, nothing too wrong with that. I see the inherent value in a lot of subjects, and I understand why people choose to go into those areas, and I won't criticize them just because they're not me.

Well I dont have anything against people who like math or science. I do like most sciences. However Math is what gets me because it is not taught, its instructed.

I am more of a literary mind, so the way math is taught is counter intuitive to the way I learn. In math you are instructed on the processes and formulas. You are told this is how this is. In math it is rare if ever you get an explanation as to WHY it is how it is.

We all have different ways of learning and areas we excel in. I think ... most.... academics look at all fields in that light. But as with anything you get exceptions to every rule and dumb asses are everywhere.

that is the one of the strangest things I've heard today. I bet they're all Arts majors that learn the "right" way to make art.

I'm an artist, and I can tell you that sentence is blatantly false.
