I disagree, but I don't see why people who are not Ugandan have the right to judge another country's domestic policy.
this isn't about domestic policy this is about human lives!and rights...
It still isn't any of our business.
Japan's problems is not our buisness either, nor was Nazi Germany. Nor is it my buisness if I see you getting rape and killed. I mean, its not like Im getting raped and killed, why bother call the police?

Most of my thoughts have already been covered in prior posts, so I'm just going to add a quote I picked up from twitter a few days back that sums up my thoughts nicely:

"Homosexuality is found in 450+ species. Homophobia is found in only one (humans). Which one seems unnatural now?"

Sorry, but I think that signing an internet petition is even more useless than doing nothing at all.
My mind is literally blown. You still make a fraction of a difference signing it however doing nothing is doing nothing.
I'm of the opinion that some people on signing the petition become satisfied that this is all they need to do, when instead they could have been told to contact their local politicians or donate money to the actual cause. I'm sure there are some people who will go on to do something, but the I think this is outweighed by the number of people who will ultimately sit and do nothing after signing this petition.

Further more, internet petitions tend to have next to no influence on anything anyway. Because they require no effort to sign, they imply a lack of investment from the people who spend 30 seconds to sign them (without getting out of their chair). A petition may get hundreds of thousands of signatures and still be casually ignored by the people they are trying to influence, because they already know how uninvolved these things are. That is why I think they are less than useless.

If you want to further a cause, don't ask people to sign your internet petition. Ask them to donate cash or contact their local politician. That might at least do some real good.

I whole-heartedly agree that some people have the 'wrong'[sub]subjective[/sub] idea that signing a petition is all they need to do. And this is my personal belief: Trying is better than doing nothing because you still made the effort, however small or large, to help a cause.

I've always seen that as a strange argument, over the millions of species on this planet there are only 450 that display a small percentage of homosexuality. A better argument is that if they don't like unnatural things, why are they using a computer?

Yet another country persecutes gays for no damn reason, but I guess with a history like Uganda's its no surprise messed up shit is still happening
I have a friend who, as a little girl, knew Idi Amin. Her father was a business partner with him back before it came out he was murdering people and whatnot. There's a famous picture of Idi Amin being carried by several white business men. One of those was my friend's father.

...I'm all for sticking it to a country for doing stupid shit, but an online petition? Ooh yeah, that'll scare 'em good. Maybe do something a little more pro-active than signing a petition and feeling like you're making a difference? And really? People comparing it to the holocaust? No one has died yet, let alone 9 million+ people.
Homosexuals were one of the groups that the Nazis went after, along with Gypsies, Jews, and other such people. So it is a fairer analogy than you give it credit for.

Edit: But I agree with some of the other posters. I have no problem with the death penalty in general, but I do have a problem with people being given the death penalty for no reason other than their sexual orientation.

That being said, this is Uganda. If you don't live in Uganda, then you don't really have a right to tell them how to run their country. That is, unless you want the entire world to be unified under a single force with similar laws, beliefs, and what have you imposed on every country. (Which sounds kind of like the Empire from Star Wars, actually.)
I HAVE EVERY FUCKING RIGHT TO TELL ANOTHER COUNTRY WHAT TO DO IF IT MEANS THE MASS KILLING OF INNOCENT PEOPLE.
Mass killing of innocent...? Did you even read what the law is about? It's for people convicted of homosexual statuary rape and such, not simply being homosexual.

Edit: Also for homosexuals that engage in sexual activity while being (And aware of) HIV-positive.

Signed, would the UN let them do that?
The UN allows other countries to take similar stances towards gays, such as IRAN (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights_in_Iran skip down to the Legal status section)

Funny how the UN sucks dick.
Since aren't they all about human rights? For fuck sakes.

Anywho, I've signed it because this bill is disgusting.

I highly doubt Uganda will even listen, but as that famous quote goes "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing".
/sigh... Signing an online petition is the same thing as doing nothing. Yes, it's a disgusting law, but a petition is utterly worthless. If you want to make a difference, talk to your Congressmen, or Parliament, or other government representatives and urge them to threaten a national embargo or other sanctions if the bill is passed. Don't go signing a worthless bunch of pixels and megabytes and then pat yourself on the back for a job well done.
I wasn't actually patting myself on the back but if that's what you want to believe then go ahead. I'm just saying that it's the most that I probably could do, mostly due to my Prime Minister's record when it comes to human rights. Due to his newly received majority government, I doubt there's much the other parties could do to pressure him into it.

But, it doesn't exactly matter anyway. Apparently an update says the bill has been shelved.
