I'm one of those kinds of people that suck entirely at FPS but I still enjoy them, mainly because when I do kill people they get really pissed and call me the oddest of obsenities which just makes me laugh really hard.

But as a sweet little twist I can only play FPS' good when I'm tired, sounds odd even to myself but hell it's true.

That is really annoying. I miss the days of UT when most people didn't have time or means to communicate beyond 'you suck' or 'gg'.

Even though I've been playing FPS's for 15 years I still am usually in the middle of the pack in any given game I play on PC. I suck out loud on console FPS's.

Except L4D I rock faces at that.

My brother is a huge contender for this.

I own him in FPS'.

We have MW2, and I'm second prestige 42, while he's 0th prestige 25.

He's been playing the game for no where near as long as me, but when I was at his time, I was prestiging.

He always tells me "I'm just playing the game to have fun"

I always wonder "How do you have fun with a 1 to 32 KD?" (He actually got this. He will just rush people. He won't even knife rush. He won't ADS. He usually switches to the USP, but got better and he finally got FMJ with the M4)

The punchline here is that whenever I say I'm better, he always adds "I'd be better if I tried"

"So try"

"I don't want to"

It makes me so mad. So very mad.

I can gladly admit that I suck. I'm not in it to win. I'm in it to have fun. Although I've started to found a good niche in MW2. I kick ass with the knife. All I need is the Tactical Knife and I'll be even more awesome!

A more appropriate image:

I do sort of agree with the guy who complains about a bad team. If I'm trying to snipe and see three teammates looking behind me, I am allowed to get annoyed at my team when someone shoots me in the back. Plus if your team dies a lot, the other team can get huge killstreaks like a Pavelow or Apache, which can cause you to get spawn-killed a lot, thus bringing your k/d way down.

But it's not a crutch to use EVERY time you do badly.

I don't think I'm all that bad, I'm average I guess. I did play with a guy that blamed everyone that killed him for being a camper. This was in MW2, I sat still for a few seconds, just enough so he could only see me sitting still on the kill cam, and I shot him. Did this twice. When I told him to stop whining and get over himself he did...

Lag is annoying tho, I hate lag when I play. I rarely get killed because of it...

I am horrible at FPS shooters but that definitely doesn't stop me from playing them. I have all the CoDs, Halo 3, L4Ds, Couterstrike, TF2, etc and have played the crap out of them all but I am not good at ANY of them.

More purpose-driven shooters like BioShock and Borderlands I do seem to be good at (except l4d)...I'm better than most of the people I've met at Borderlands - even good at duels. But competitive multiplayer online FPS games just somehow thwart any kind of skill that I though I had.

I know what I'm good at: RPGs (mmo and otherwise), puzzle games (standing challenge to anyone who wants to play Tetris Attack against me), Guitar hero/rock band, and strategy games but FPS shooters just force me to suck.

Oh well, I still play it all anyway =)

I'm either really bad, or the game just hates me. I'm always being the first one to die from a pistol shot to the foot, never mind the fact that the other guy managed to take 3 shotgun shells to the face and he's still running towards a health pack. Could be why I don't like most of them.

Oh well... Borderlands. [starts singing "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked"]

I can't tell if I'm good or not, sometimes I own and other times I'll finish middle to bottom of the board. I think it's the maps, some you just click with and the layout suits your build and playstyle, but others (fuck you aiport and highrise) just mess up my flow.

The the problem with admitting that I'm bad at FPSs for me is....
Well...

I prolly wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have lag and fail at mouse/have a trackpad.

Ok, to start off, I am Effilctar aka g3n3r4l WTF, and I am terrible at FPS online multiplayer. in all of possibly 9 hours of playing Modern warfare 2, I'm only level 21 and got my first harrier strike approximately 20 minutes ago. I admit, I am bad at FPS's, and what gets on my nerves even more than arrogant good players, is bad players who will blame anyone but themselves, often blaming their team or lag.

An example would be playing CTF today, I met a lvl 30-something, whatever prestige he was, who at the end of the game had 9 kills and 20 deaths. The first thing he did was blame his team for his lack of kills, claiming that he plays good if he is with a good team.
Now, sorry, but I always thought that a player's skill made them good at a game, not the people they play with, and if you do need a team to help you play good then you're not a very good player, are you?

Have my fellow Escapians had similar experiences?
Um, I can't say for sure without knowing the details of the game, but he could have a point.

If your team is really failboating, then it becomes a lot harder to make kills. ESPECIALLY in Modern Warfare. I've played in MW games where my team was pushed back into it's spawn zone, and had all of the exits camped. Not a lot you can do there, even if you are good. Oh, and there's the fun of never being able to leave a building without being killed by somebody's kill streak summon.

It's actually one of the main reasons I quit playing Modern Warfare; being on a bad team is just no fun.

I'm alright at FPS games on console, but pretty bad on PC, but that may be everyone else's skills being that much better instead of me being 'crap'.

But I do suck pretty hard at RTS games but that doesn't stop me from playing them and enjoying them.

I had a game of Halo 3 where I betrayed a guy, clearing a triple kill as well in territories, with a single grenade. The guy instantly blamed me for letting that point go. If I didn't, they would have for sure gotten it. Not to mention that the point was at the top of isolation and I knew someone was camping with a shotty. The guy quit after trash talking me for about 2 mintues, non-stop, without breathing along with 3 of his guests so he left me, 1 vs. 5. Then he sent me a text wall trash talking me. Then the next game I got booted from killing a teammate that was trying to kill me for a straight 5 minutes, while he was yelling "Why the hell you take my sniper? You suck at sniping! (he doesn't know me and the I already got 3 head shots and a sniper spree) give me that sniper!" etc. The guy was getting me killed almost and distracted so I just wanted him to leave me the hell alone.

Mmmm... I play L4D, and it takes just one guy to mess things up for the team when playing the harder difficulties. So this may be an exception. Obviously in games such as CoD or CS:S, it's pretty much everyman for himself and the blame can't be shifted as much.

Modesty aside, I'm great at FPS's. I'm always at the top 3.

In MW2, I get an AC130 every second game. If I'm bad, it's only because I'm unwilling to try.

I have pretty epic reflexes. I just see people before they see me.

You're right. The PC is capable of playing any game (torrents, pirating, ports, and emulators), has the most versatile control system, the best possible graphics and performance, and to to top it all off you can run background programs. You're right, because it takes a ton of money to afford and tech prowess to gain the maximum potential, and so far there's only two people that can truly unlock it's true power, Bill Gates and Batman.
And me with my £700 rig. I love my baby. Although I think she needs a new graphics card. It's like the hardware version of keyhole surgery.

One of my friends, who I think has an escapist profile now, has such difficulty playing left 4 dead coop with anyone he doesn't know because of the general level of suck that he usually just creates friends only or local games.
I remember playing with strangers on vs, and I knew we were going to kick the other team's ass right from the start because the first sentence out of the their mouths was "So what's the plan?" Turns out I was right. Sorry off topic. I'm okay in most games, but bad in team based ones (except Left 4 Dead) because I swear my team rarely works together. I don't want to sound like an arrogant moron, but how is our team's loss my fault when I'm a medic and nobody will stop and let me heal them? Even if they have one health, they still will run right past me into the enemy killzone.
