in RPGs -yes, I do play as a girl once in a while. In MMOs- not really, it would feel like I would be tricking people.

If you are playing a single player RPG, you should RP to preserve the overall "immersion" factor. Doing so in WoW, or any other MMO is just kind of creepy.

MMOs are role playing games. If a guy wants to role play as a girl then they should be able to. Just like you are allowed to play a mage. im notreally a mage in real life but id like to role play as one.
Anyone who actually roleplays on an MMO deserves to be castrated... not that they'd get any sex anyway. "I'm an elf". No you're fucking not. :D
A bit harsh, ne? My roleplaying is more along the lines of "impulsive gadgeteer, crafty battle strategist, and talks to animal companion."

There are limits, of course. I know from embarrassing experience that I can't pull off the pseudo-Jamaican troll accent.
Oh no, that wasn't aimed at you. That's just things I've heard about RP servers on WoW. Not that I've ever been on one myself, you understand. Or owned a WoW account.

Whatever looks better in certain armor, If a female character suits a armor set better, I'll use a female. If a male looks better, then Male it is.

Hmm, hadn't heard of that. I play on an RP server mainly because they're usually smaller and there's a greater chance that people will type in complete sentences.

Of course I've made a girl character! Then again, I am a girl in reality too, so nothing weird about it. I do make male characters on WoW and run around and facerape people though, when Im bored.

In single-player games like Oblivion i generally go male but in WoW i have a rule : I flip a coin whenever i make a character, Heads = Male, Tails = Female

depends what I feel like, I usually go for how it's supposed to be, lore-wise (for example: Night Elf Warriors are female, because that is how their culture works). But I made Commander Shephard (from Mass Effect) female... Hey, If I'm going to have stare at an ass for 60+ hours, I'd rather have a nice female ass in front of me instead of a ugly male one...

In Fallout 3 I made a somewhat similar version of myself to run around and shoot muties =P

In MMO's, no. I play as a male character because online there are perverted people and the first thing you get when playing as a female character is "omgh are u a girl in real lyf?/" and that is NOT comfortable.

BUT, looking back on my gaming, I am actually quite guilty of playing as the girl character. Pokemon Ruby was the first time, because i thought the male character had a pine-cone or something on his head and I just WAY prefered the bandana girl. Nowadays, it seems I play the female more.
Fallout 3: I liked the idea of the girl killing everything and whatnot.
Guitar Hero: At first i just re-created a friend of mine who played guitar, now i just always use that character.
Saints Row 2: I find it hilarious to have a black chick with dreads do gangster stuff and throw around people. Makes the cutscenes actually worth watching!

I guess I get enough males characters from Gears or Halo or MW2 or any other game for that matter.

And on an EDIT note: My sister plays games alot also. But she ALWAYS ALWAYS plays as a male character. Ive never seen her make a female in RPG's. Dunno what to think of that...

well people will make a fool of other people given the chance, plus if you willing to give up every last item or money who have in a game to a give to a female character even if its a female in real life ur still a fool giving it to them in the first place lol

I choose male because it's eaiser for me to pretend to be my character in real life that way and not just some loser kid... I mean because I'm sexist. Yes, that's it.
