I don't get an option to play a female very often, so I'm used to playing a guy. Playing my own gender is weird now.

I played fallout 3 as a guy and as a girl... Being a girl is much better because of the black widow perk alone...

I can play either or, without feeling weird about it. I don't play games to make a "representation" of myself. Particularly RPG's where you're supposed to be playing a role.

When seeing character creation screens, my first instinct is often to re-create myself in-game, but it is usually much more rewarding to actually play as someone with an entirely different character.

If the option is presented to me, I'll play a female character on the first time through, and likely any other time as well. I can't say it makes a huge difference to me though.

The only times I will play a female character in a rpf are when a, there are significant story difference between the male and female characters, or b, when the male characters are so ripped they shouldn't be able to move (looking at you, wow)

Males have an equivalent perk called "Lady Killer".

Well hell, that's one of the main reason's I'll play as a female character.

Nah but seriously, I think it really comes down to customization. If I only have a couple choices, more often then not I'll go as the male option, but if I can choose what the player looks like, I'll often go for the female, because if I customize a male, I'll have to make it look like myself, otherwise it would be weird, and, let's face it, I'm not exactly the best looking model for anything. If I play as a female though, I have pretty much a blank slate to play with, and I can make them look however I want, which is very visually appealing. And normally it doesn't really affect the gameplay one bit, although that room I accidentally walked into in Saints Row 2 was really, really disturbing.

I tend to play as a female character whatever in RPG's, it gives a greater sense of detatchment so I don't hurl my computer out of the window the 300th time the character (rather the 'I') dies on the same god damned cheaty boss...and the jogging arse thing obviously.

Although I do wish there was a bit more range in female characters, bought guild wars @ xmas and your choices are 'stick thin, well endowed model type' or 'stick thin, well endowed model type' but shorter or taller. Just once I think it would be fun to have a character that looks like a Russian weight lifter.

I can't help but think lowly of people who use the "staring at a backside" argument (as mentioned before), I'm sorry, but I guess it bothers me to know that people are playing a game with me as though it's some kind of interactive ogle. That's normal in tomb raider and I can't complain if it's done when you're alone, I suppose, but what of mmorpgs? What happens if you make a character that just DOES IT for you? On second thought, lets not go there.

I occasionally play the opposite gender, mostly because I occasionally run into the stereotype desperate guy whom will actually teamkill me until I answer him when he asks if I'm actually a female (no girls on the internets) and then tries to hit on me when I finally do answer... This happens more often then you'd like to think it does!

"Why sure, I'll go out with you, but only if you promise not to kill me!"

It would be brilliant to see a pudgy girl in the kind of victoria's secret armor RPGs tend to saddle their female characters with.

Mooncalf'd Play Dat.

There's a difference between not staring at a pixelated guys butt and staring at a pixelated girls butt. If it was a choice, I'd go for robot deathmachine every time.

That's actually pretty funny, because my little brother and his friend actually created female characters in a MMORPGer he frequents specifically for the reason that everyone on there is more likely to give you free stuff in the hopes of gaining brief affection from a "girl". The people he was playing with couldn't even tell the difference, which means either MMORPG players on that particular game are incredibly desperate, or my brother is way too good at pretending to be a female.

Usually I'd play as a female character when I've gone through the game once or twice. Although sometimes I'd play as a female character first.
