It's just a tiny bit peculiar that you're saying the 360 "wins" for having games that the Ps3 has also.
well, the xbox360 doesn't "win" because it has that, but that from a games stand point, they are equal footing. The one thing that really becomes the tie breaker, (and trying to bring it back on topic now) would be the respective online networks. the XLBA apparently just has more stuff to offer. But I'm still researching this. So who knows. there's also the fact that Live costs 50 bucks a year. Not THAT much, for sure, but really, if the performance is the same, then justifying that extra 50 bucks will take some work.

oh yeah, and I fully acknowledge that the 360 pad does not do fighting games well. So, again, another point against it. But somewhat mitigated in that I intend to get a stick for it too if I do go the 360 route.

Believe it or not, this is actually one of those things that can tip my decision to either go for a PS3 or a 360. At the moment, I'm thinking the 360 looks pretty good for me. I mean, I play a lot of fighting games. Being able to play Tekken 6, Soulcalibur 4, not to mention get all these other DLCs available to me? Sold.
they are also on the ps3

There is one small aspect of PSN that ticks me off. In the days where i still had a 360 I would check every two weeks for new demos and videos. This was easy to do as xbox live is organised in such a way that the new content is easily accessible. On PSN however the new stuff can be a bit of a pain to navigate as it is all just lumped in together on one page, organised by game title rather that content type (demos, Movies, DLC etc.)

There was a hate on the PSN? Never noticed. It's free, never encountered any lag while playing online (and I have crappy net connection), and things to buy in PS Store are pretty sweet. I dunno how much more do you get from XBL, since I don't have X360, and even if I would, Bill Gates hates Poland, so unless I'll modify the console itself (which is illegal) XBL is unavailable for me anyway.

Wait you're choosing the Xbox over the ps3 for fighting games?... DOES NOT COMPUTE...
You're gonna have to explain this to me. Is there something wrong with the 360 and the game ports? I mean, yeah, they have their unsightly controller, but then I would probably end up getting myself a stick anyway. Still, I'm all ears if there's something I should be aware of.
I'm no expert, just a casual fighters gamer (screw you Yahtzee, I will use whatever word I want, whenever I want) but Vader > Yoda in Soul Calibur 4 (although, as a fan of SC 3, I think that SC4 was a huge letdown, and it's not worth buying. Buy yourself some Tekken or BlazBlue. Those are much more fun to play fighters).

I have never had a problem with lag or Internet issues with PSN.

And from what i have seen from friends that have an xbox 360, i prefer PSn for sure.

The PS3 is $600.
Someone's still living in 2006.

On topic: While it "may" be true that Xbox live receives a better connection (which has never been confirmed to me by the by), it completely boggles my mind that many of my Xbox friends think Psn is terrible completely based on the fact that it's free. I personally think its pretty good.
Cowabungaa said:
No it's not. It hasn't been for ages now. It's been 300 since last year.
$300 then. Still more than I could ever afford. I can't even afford community college, or an apartment somewhere that isn't a dirt road surrounded by 3ft tall grass and trees. There aren't even rabbits out here. That's how isolated this damn town is.

I've never had issues with it. I don't have to pay for it, that's the best part.

Ah yes, isolation, that sounds familiar. Very familiar. Yeah I get what you mean, but it's not a good argument for this discussion. Afterall, the 360 is just as expensive.

I don't mind the PSN, it gets me online and actually over 70% of the time I get Host Migration in MW2 it is successful, but that's probably only with me..
I'm getting the newest 360 in about two weeks though and I don't mind XBL either, I've tried it a little and that too gets me online, I don't care if I need to pay a small sum a year to play online.

I only owned a Wii, until just recently someone raffled off their old 360 and some games at an arcade in town and my brother managed to win. I'm not a fan of the 360's network, mainly because it seems to be populated mainly by pricks who will gladly kick you for not being able to afford a microphone, or for killing a teammate who kept trying to kill you first(yes on purpose).

Personally i think that the Wii is pretty much tailor-made for internet compatibility and don't understand why there isn't an online network for the wii-gamers yet.

I don't know. They are pretty much the same. XBL has some more content(the gap is lessening)and a little bit more polished feel, but PSN is free, while XBL has the $50 a year price tag. If you ask me, PSN is better because the edge XBL has in content just isn't worth the 50 dollars a year. If I had bought an Xbox in 07 instead of a PS3, I would have already paid $150-200 in sub fees. Really nothing Xbox Live has to offer can warrant me spending that much money on it.

on xbox we get dedicated servers , microsoft makes us pay for your live so we get better hosts ... on ps3 on per say ... mw2 if there is a host migration it will end the game ... on xbox we get yellow bar and then back up to green

i like both but my prefrence is with xbox ... i enjoy the xbox and pc only games as well
Actually PSN does use dedicated servers for servers with games like Resistance. MW2 has no dedicated servers full stop did you not see all the controversy over it? The whole games runs off one person's Xbox360/PC/PS3. As far as I know XBL does not use Dedicated servers for any games what so ever. If it used Dedicated you would not be using the Matchmaking system you would have a server browser like Resistance has. I know some games use a slight combination of server and P2P on the players side but I can't think of a single game on Xbox 360 at the moment that is a Dedicated Server only game with not P2P help from the player what so ever.

OT: I have not heard anything atleast on this website in the few years I have been on it saying bad things about PSN. I have heard a few good things no amazing things but not any bad things on this website. I am sure there have been bbut not to the extent it is talked about as say Halo/MW2.

As of a few hours ago, I picked up a PS3 for the first time. I remember reading a while ago that people seemed to have a strong distaste for the Playstation Network. I've always owned a 360 and loved features of XBL, but I am quite impressed with the Playstation Network...moreso than I thought I'd be after hearing all the negative talk about it. It appears to me to be more organized as well as more aesthetically pleasing.

Is this new? Did it really suck at some point in time?
And why still all the hate and claims that it "isn't as good as XBL?"

Not trying to pick a fight, just looking for something that I may be missing...
I've had the PS3 since launch (got the old 60GB version), and it hasnt changed much since then. Just people winging and finding excuses to bag the PS3 out because it doesn't have voice between games. Tbh I only voice when gaming with a mate anyway, so that feature is useless IMO.

True, that happens a lot on XBL. I guess it's because most 360 starter kits come with a microphone, while with the PS3 that's another 30 bucks purchase (well technically you can use any USB or Blue Tooth headset with it). It's kind-of annoying in Bad Company 2 where more (mature) people with a mic would be nice, improving teamwork and all.

I must say that it depends on the game as well. MW2 on the PS3 was probably just as annoying as MW2 on XBL. Every time I booted up a game I promptly muted everyone. It doesn't help either that I'm in Europe, where most of the time an online game is populated by a dozen of nationalities that all scream their own language (and probably swearing in it) at the same time. Góds people, don't force me to go Pulp Fiction on your ass.

As for the Wii, yes I find that very weird as well. From what I've seen it has a couple of fantastic games for multi-player (the upcoming remake of GoldenEye alone is worth it) yet you have to fumble around with friend codes. A real shame.

Maybe Nintendo's next console will have a smoother online network, they've always been late with things like that. The GameCube lacked it too, even more so than the Wii.

Do you ever attend System Wars by chance? I'm sure there's not that much hate in the real world because frankly, people just don't care that much.

Our gaming preferences are as much dictated by advertizing as it is dictated by taste.

In fact, all our tastes are.

Bottom line: normal consumers are less insane than "hardcore gamers" (sorry Yahtzee) but also have less awareness of what they're actually buying.

In the real world, I highly doubt you'd give your consoles online portion that many second thoughts when comparing.

i think all things considered it's a better deal than forking out monthly for online play, since i'd play online more if it wans't going to cost me money.
I've always veiwed the ps3 superior in that respect, and would only ever play something like Borderlands with friends over it.

The biggest problem I've faced are 360 fanboys trying to justify paying for online by believing:
Psn = crap
Xbox Live = perfect

when its more like:

Psn = Good
Xbox Live = Better due to payments

Sure, Live "might" be better, but the belief that Psn is terrible is just ridiculous to my eyes.
If all you're ever going to do is play shooters online and don't mind paying $50 a year then the 360 is probably the better choice. Otherwise, just look at the exclusives for each console and decide for yourself.

It's because no one wants to remember an entire Friend Code rather than a User Name.
