I remember when I was younger, I had a mountain of games in this genre:
Monkey Island, Simon the Sorceror, Gabrielle Knight, Indiana Jones, to name a VERY small number of them.

Is it just me, or has this genre well and truly been taken out back and shot between the eyes?

As well as the ground breakers I mentioned at the start, I recall some (of the last?) that were released more recently that were still good. There was a rather amusing Beavis & Butthead P&C and The X-Files one was awesome (the one where you navigated through pre-filmed locations)

It's hard to see why they stopped making these when they were so good. Okay, they're not the greatest of graphical masterpieces that they'd like to whore to the moon and back. But to play it their way (financially), I can't see them costing that much to make or taking that long to make either.

Seems to me that the Nintendo DS would be an excellent place to revitalize this long lost godly genre.

The Ace Ventura p&c was pretty sharp too. Voice actor from the animated series, but all the characters and humor from the films.

Thinking back, they changed Monkey Island on the 4th installation didn't they? It was like Grim Fandango where you just moved next to stuff to see the available interaction options.

You can get the full version of one of the episodes for free on Steam. Worth a try if you want to play a good point and click.

I have Sam n Max hit the road and played the one after that but I thought they were starting to suck TBH. Too much like the kid's TV series they made for it.

Thanks dude, appreciated. I've just flown through Yahtzee's point n clicks actually. Good, but sadly a tad short. :(

I don't miss them because they aren't gone.

My personal favorite adventure game developer is Wadjet Eye Games. Anyone who makes a game about being a Rabbi who has lost his faith and is trying to solve a murder is clearly not afraid to push the bar.

And AGD Interactives Sierra-On-Line remakes are bar none the best slice of nostalgia one can find. QFG2 is as great as ever.

I think a game called "Murder in the Abbey" just got released, and of course there is Telltale.

I've been hearing of lots of adventure titles coming for PC lately but they aren't all point and click.

They aren't gone, they just, slowed down. There's Sam & Max (We all know of it) and Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People. Ok, so anything by Telltale.

Point and Click is slowly coming back. I doubt it will hit the appex that it had before, but the genre has a following that is easy to break into.
Also, I use to be into Homestarrunner, so I enjoyed the demo of on the telltale games of the series.

I think too many gamers now-a-days just want to get drunk, hammer the shit out of the shoot button and blow up aliens. Or pretend to play a musical instrument to hide the fact they're musically retarded.

My girlfriend has Touch Detective/Mystery Detective on her DS, which is kind of p&c which gives me hope they'll utilize the DS more.

I'm just praying that they fulfil the Monkey Island-Lucas Arts 5 game deal.....PLEASE!

No, we just don't want to have to squint at a screen for five hours looking for one mundane object to fit the one lock. We would rather do something interesting, be that maiming an alien or commanding legions of aliens to main and kill other aliens.

Interesting? Playing the 2008 equivalent of Wolfenstien 3D for about the 1000th is interesting? Sorry, I'd rather use my head and work things out via logical thought (or not so logical in some cases) rather than hammer the 'shoot' button for 20 levels of generic, non thought provoking bollocks.

Guess it's just a difference of brainpower.........sorry, difference of taste.

We? No, sir, you want to do that. I'd far rather play another Day Of The Tentacle or Grim Fandango than Gears Of War 2 or Halo 3. Plus, I think you've been playing the wrong sort of adventure games. Go play Grim Fandango. If you don't find it interesting then I feel thoroughly sorry for you.
