I've been putting a lot of time into my copy of SoulSilver as of late, and one thing I've noticed about my playing habits is my preference for male pokemon over female pokemon. This "sexism" of sorts manifests itself often in the Safari Zone, with me choosing to let all female pokemon go, and try and catch male versions instead - no matter how rare the pokemon is.

It's hard to find any reason for it, but I was wondering if any fellow Escapists have had similar experiences?

P.S. Yes, Whitney's Miltank kicked my ass with that damned attract.

It really doesn't matter to me what gender my Pokemon are, but having females can be handy during gym battles when using/resisting attract.

I think I did back in the original gold...I always had a slight male preference, but I think it was only 'cause of the stat boost.

The only time I've ever really noticed the gender of my pokemon is when I'm trying to breed them.
The only time I could really called sexist is the gender of my character because I don't think I have ever chosen a female charater.

They actually had stat differences based on sex? hahaha that would be slightly concerning. I imagine that's gone now though

I almost prefer females, if only because I find a horde of girls destroying a male group to be bizarrely amusing.

In the earlier games i remember me and my friends trying to get female starting pokemon, but not really noticed the sex of pokemon until breeding them.

meh, my only Males-only preference is with Abras, since the female versions of it's evolved form have smaller moustaches compared to the males.

other than that, i couldn't be bothered with the genders of pokemon

ehhh.

Not really, most of my teams tend to be 5 male and one female, and sometimes the other way around.
but i never really notice until i start checking stats on a regular basis.

Though there are some pokemon that i will only catch the females of them.

Sometimes by choice, sometimes because that's all ill run into.

really? I have never gotten a female starting pokemon, always have been male.

I didn't like the red girl sign they had in Ruby, for some reason it just looked really weird and out of place, while the blue male symbol flowed nicely with the background

The only way you can tell is a tiny symbol next to their names.

I never cared, dont even know the genders of any of my pokemon on Saphhire...

You're talking to a guy who went out of his way - WAY out of his way - to catch a team of all-male Jigglypuff, just because. I do show a bit of a preference for males, but if I've already decided on what I want to name a Pokémon before I find it, then I will find one of the corresponding gender.

I never cared. I just say hey I want that Pokemon. then I catch it and about an hour later I say hey look its a girl. I should catch a male and breed it or vice-versa. and YES you are sexist for caring. they all fight the same, unless you want a gender specific pokemon like dustox or beautifly.

If i'm planning to actually use the pokemon i'll try to catch the male version. If i'm catching it for the sake of it i don't care about it :p

Yeah it only lasted the one generation...

I think it was males had more strength and females....possibly speed, my memory is rusty.

Ah, yes. Whitney's Miltank is always a fucking ***** to beat.

OT: I always choose boy when playing Pokemon.
