I tend to make my teams with 3 males, 3 females if I can help it (learned my lesson long ago with Whitney in the original Silver).

Although the one thing I have noticed is how DIFFICULT is is to get a female starter. I think I've only ever gotten 2 girls in my run of the games before I'd give up and settle on a male.

Nope. The only pokemon I have any gender bias for is Wobbuffet, because the female version looks odd. Well, more odd.
I always play as a male character though. I think that might be a side effect of being male in real life.
Gender usually doesn't matter for breeding, either, since you can just use ditto.

usually... because when my starter is female, it kicks more ass (idk why) but when my starter is male, it sucks.

so i make it a point to at least *try* and get female Pokemon and if its legendary with no geder. well then. thats that.

well, the only part of Pokemon I get sexist over is my starter. For whatever reason I don't know. For example, in Silver I could not imagine myself with a female cyndaquil, totodile, or chikorita for some reason.. other then my starter I couldn't really care what the gender is. At one point in a play through I had 5 females and 1 male(starter).

Nowadays I am impartial, but I remember when I was younger if my starter was female I would always restart, I preferred a male starter for some reason...

For those pokemon I teach Tm's male might be better, since they can pass the TM to the baby. If I breed, I'll need both, but usually I don't care, unless there's a difference in the way they look.

My team in Soulsilver ended up being all females, not intentionally, though.

Although, I find the idea of female Machamp amusing. If I had one in my team, I'd like it to be female.

Depends on the pokemon. Some pokemon I would rather have as female, Gardevoir and Scizor for example. Gardevoir for it's feminine look and Scizor because female bugs in real life are more dominant than the males. Then there are pokemon like Mr Mime and Machamp that should be male.

Otherwise, doesn't matter.

Yep, only 4 have genders, Latias is Female, Latios is Male. Cresselia is female and Heatran can vary between either. Thats only 4 out of 35, which ain't much.

If it's going in the party, male, other then that, meaning just for the check besides it's name in the pokedex I could care less.

I don't even know why I do it, probably because I'm male myself.

I'm definitely one of the "only for breeding" types when it comes to pokemon gender. When it comes to trainer gender, it depends on how completely idiotic the male looks like, I guess, but I normally go with male.

Female starters are rather rare anyway, as it offers breeding them a lot sooner. Not that it really mattered with HGSS since ditto was basically wandering around outside the daycare.

Don't care about the legendaries since I basically see them as trash pokemon.

As for the main pokemon, I only care in cases where the avatar doesn't match the gender. I feel sorry for a male lopunny or gardevior.

I don't really care what their gender is unless I'm planning on breeding. There are a few exceptions, though, like when I catch a Ralts/Kirlia (a male WILL become a Gallade) or a select few for the visual gender differences (like Heracross; I prefer the male's horn design). I do, however, like to have both on my team so I don't end up getting my ass handed to me over something like Attract.

And was there ever an actual stat difference between males and females?

Oh, right, there are also some pokemon that evolve differently. Also, there are the pokemon who were clearly made before they had the idea of giving pokemon genders, like Machop. The idea of a female Machoke is... odd. That's be like having a male Chansey. It was designed femininely in Gen I, and was given even an even more feminine evolution in Gen II.

I only care about gender for the purpose of breeding up Egg Moves. So i usually look for a father with the attack i want and of course a mother for the sort of pokemon i want. Whatever gender the bred pokemon has is not really important.

I think I did back in the original gold...I always had a slight male preference, but I think it was only 'cause of the stat boost.
They actually had stat differences based on sex? hahaha that would be slightly concerning. I imagine that's gone now though
Yeah it only lasted the one generation...

I think it was males had more strength and females....possibly speed, my memory is rusty.
It wasn't that females were given weaker stats, rather that gender was determined by the attack IV (hidden value of attack relative to other pokemon of the same species), as they had to retain backwards compatability with generation 1, which had no seperate value for male and female. It still had unfountunate implications though...
