sorry, dont mean to sound incredibly rude, but seriously, it's POKEMON! She doesn't look like trailer trash, she looks like she is from new york
She doesn't look 'offensive' she just looks like a complete mess.
I sort of feel offended that people think the average teenage girl in New York dresses like that... But I suppose it may be true these days. Also, my biggest complaint is the huge disparity between the options of dressed-for-all-seasons boy and dressed-for-sitting-on-my-boyfriend's-car girl. If the guy had his boxer's showing, his pants hanging off his hips and his coat was biggy and poofier then they would be on equal ground.

And, hilariously, I just noticed that you can see her skin through the rips in the shorts and yet the pockets are still there... so what did she rip out the pockets and sew them to the bottoms of her shorts? That's a lot of work to look so trashy. Ha!

I was going to make a comment about how the shorts weren't that bad but upon checking google to refresh my memory of the design...well, let's just say I don't feel I can make that comment now...

It is pretty ridiculous looking.

I thought the characters were supposed to be in their teenage years in this game.
Nope, in the TV show ash is still technically somehow 10 or 11.

erm... my point being that i think your avatar is meant to be that age too.

No they are actually supposed to be 15-16 this time round.
It's hard to tell with Pokémon's art style but it is true.
Bianca is a good indicator, just keep an eye out for those Hartman Hips of hers.

OT: Misty. 'Nuff said. Girls in the Pokémon Franchise have always been a little underdressed, it's just how they roll.

The characters are teens in this game.

And not everyone is a Puritan.

Just because I'm not dressed head to toe in a Burqa doesn't mean I'm out sucking wang for money.

This is why I make sure to do a little research before assuming that all things are the same.

Otherwise I'd see a pigeon and assume that obvious all birds must be pigeons.

I am not joking when I say that the female trainer for Pokemon exhibits only the qualities of female character design that I utterly hate. I was, honestly, disgusted! Why is the female version of that jacketed fellow with a map bag a girl with pornographically tiny shorts, pockets showing past the cut off legs and monolithic hair?

Am I the only person (or only woman for that matter) that was horrified by this? And I'm seriously not a prude, I just don't want my choices for avatar in my monster catching game to be a young man or a prostitute. I don't think that's unreasonable.
The bolded section is discounted by the previous paragraph unfortunately.

Characters in the pokemon games are always overly stylized characters, bordering (and often surpassing) stereotypes.

The fashion of either of these characters is not outside the realm of belief amongst teenagers (the age group these kids are supposed to fit) and in my own youth I saw both outfits.

You are judging a person by how they dress as opposed to how they act, so the problem lies with you.

Your character goes off to save the relationships of the entire nations trainers and pokemon, gains a bunch of friends, becomes a historical figure by becoming the next hero, and then goes off to catch the terrorists and save the day again. Effectively you are a pokemon badass bringing peace and love to the world (ironically through combat).

But damn her for doing all that while not dressing classically and modestly.

In that case, she'd need Uggs, black tights, and a North Face jacket.

\I wish they'd just include options to let us ourselves design the character.
Different hairstyles, clothes, eye options and skintone.
Now THAT would be fantastic. Or even just letting us use the other trainers that you encounter in the game world while playing the single player game... they already use them for the multi-player anyway.

I think this is a the look in all 50 odd states. I remember my high school in CA, we technicaly hada dress code, but apparently the girls ignored it and the staff largely did the same thing.

The thing I hated was the fact a Girl could wear the Daisy Dukes and a spaghetti straps without much complaint from the staff, but heaven forbid a boy would dare wear a tank top. We don't want them to show off too much skin now, do we ; )

I don't think the Female Design in B/W is that bad.
Though bad I will agree, it's still a good one. My favorite design is Leaf though. Simple and easy.
Look at the one they made for HG/SS - Now that's a terrible one.

Oooh. I would love that.

I was hoping the fashion show options would carry over into combat for pokemon too.

One can dream.

I'm actually from the party that hopes that by folks starting to dress in revealing ways constantly we'll be able to desensitize folks a bit.

The US has been locked in a hardcore puritan oppression for a few centuries. It would be nice to see us mature and stop shitting flames and blood each time someone doesn't wear a radiation suit. Or to be less hyperbolic, anytime anyone wears anything we don't find acceptable.

Only new-ish character design that don't blow are Red from FR/LG and the Male trainer in HG/SS.

(Mainly because the male trainer in HG/SS is almost 100% identical to the original one)

This isn't that related, but you will realize that Ash is a tortured soul.

OT: I have no problem with the boy from B/W, but the girl...yea I can see the problem there.

I never liked any of the female designs over male designs except for Diamond and Pearl. Of course its usually just the characters having dumb hair, but this one has dumb clothes too, its their worst design of ether gender so far. But I'm a male so it doesn't bother me. Maybe the next one will have the ability to customize, the tech seems ready for at least a few more options then a and b.

Sorry to tell you this, but that's par for the course in Pokemon. Sometimes you'd swear Pokemon and The World Ends with You had the same character designer. The really creepy thing about it is that Pokemon protagonists are frequently prepubescent.
