Pornographic short shorts? C'mon, where I live if the women got it they flaunt it. What you call pornographic I call an average spring day. As for the hair, all anime females(and males) have crazy hair.

Damn captcha.

I think bar Fire Red/Leaf Green this is the best female trainer design so far.

I finally picked up pokemon white a couple days ago, and I waited until today to start playing. So I started up, picked up Victini, and then went to start my game. And I was going to play a female character as I always do (being that I'm of the female persuasion) but apparently my choices were between a well dressed young man and a woman that looked as though she just stumbled out of a trailer park. I am not joking when I say that the female trainer for Pokemon exhibits only the qualities of female character design that I utterly hate. I was, honestly, disgusted! Why is the female version of that jacketed fellow with a map bag a girl with pornographically tiny shorts, pockets showing past the cut off legs and monolithic hair?

Am I the only person (or only woman for that matter) that was horrified by this? And I'm seriously not a prude, I just don't want my choices for avatar in my monster catching game to be a young man or a prostitute. I don't think that's unreasonable.
I don't get it when people say it's going downhill, Misty from the original series wore the least clothing of any female character in Pokemon, she had short shorts and a shirt that looked like it was too big for her because her tits were pushing it out. If anything the new design is going uphill.

Well I wasn't really bothered at all at first (course I'm a guy...), but I took another look and I have to say I see your point. Compared the the male trainer with his jacket and long pants, the shorts and vest/t-shirt combo of the female character does look a bit odd. Perhaps if they had given her a bit more length to the sleeves and legs of her clothes it wouldn't be so bad. I could care less about the hair, it's just an aesthetic choice (and not that odd when compared to the other choices of PC trainers over the years). I have watched someone playing White a bit and I do have to say though that the ass you see when you start a battle probably could have been done without. I doubt it was intentional fan-service and it could have been a lot worse but I can see your gripe.

Of course what really bugs me is how one PC trainer seems to be dressed for cooler weather and the other for hotter weather. Which one is dressed oddly for the climate?

Only new-ish character design that don't blow are Red from FR/LG and the Male trainer in HG/SS.

(Mainly because the male trainer in HG/SS is almost 100% identical to the original one)
The old Gold character was better. At least he didn't have poofy shorts.

Nope, in the TV show ash is still technically somehow 10 or 11.

erm... my point being that i think your avatar is meant to be that age too.
Ash =/= Protagonists from Black/White.
Thank you captain obvious. But would you like to explain why that makes a difference? Ash has been 10 for, i don't know how long, why should i assume that the poke'mon game is not also aimed at an audience primarily around 10 years old, and so will also have a protagonist that age cause that's easier to relate to.

OT: apparently the new protagonist is around 15, but that doesn't explain why nintendo hasn't made any significant changes to the franchise. If they're aiming at an older audience, why don't they make the game a little deeper, or rather have some more easily accessible depth. If you need to make the game more complicated to do so, you have no excuse to not make it more complicated when aiming at an older audience. (i always assumed that the basic mechanics in the game never changed because they were always aiming at a young audience and so simple was better.)

Eh, her shorts are longer than the skirt of the girl in the previous generation...and she's actually older than her.

I'd call that an improvement.
I agree with this person

True, and he wasn't bone skinny, or had one of those lame single strap back packs. Still the Heart gold male trainer in no where near as bad as the Diamond/Pearl/Platinum male trainer.

Well i was like:

''Young man dressed like a young man for once, or a slut, i pick well dressed young man.''

Don't worry, though, they'll put more clothes ont hem in the third game like they always do.

Personally I didn't mind the female sprite in this game. The player characters in this game are supposed to be around 16. In all the old games the characters were about 10 and the girls still had pretty big chests for kids that age.

I honestly don't think it's that bad. (Of course, I'm a guy, so that's to be expected.) I will admit though, the first time I saw her design, I felt it to be a little creepy on the designers part. As the trainers you played as were always children. When I found out later that they were teenagers, I felt a little better about the design.

I can understand how you feel though. Her design has spawned a ton of borderline hentai fan-art.

Incidentally, this comic strip comes to mind after reading this thread.

Surely the female character can't be penalised for being almost identical to the old one when in FR/LG there is no female character to be compared to?
Besides, i just didn't like lyra because she looked ridiculous.

I don't get it do girls not wear short shorts wear you guys live? That's how women have dressed for the last decade. Switch the combat boots for some flip flops and you have the average American girl.

Hilda looks less like trailer trash and more like your average girl going on a hike in the summer. Not the best protection from ticks, but this is pokemon; she would probably throw a pokeball at it.

Although, I think the guys making pokemon just have a thing for legs. I'm looking at all the sprites right now at Bulbapedia, and every girl is showing them off or has stockings that end a little below the skirt line giving a flash of thighs.

Hilbert looks like a bum. Seriously, kid, get a haircut.

Still think she's one of the best so far. Probably since she dresses semi-normal. Minus the bonnie hat of course.

Black & White are based on New York State.

All the characters in that game are based on the typical people of New York.
