Ah, the first generation. I grew up with Pokemon Yellow (and yes, I do love Pikachu) and had many adventures. Since the second/third gen split I haven't played it very often anymore (except for an abandoned LP of it but that is a different story).

[HEADING=2]What are your favorite memories from the first generation?[/HEADING]

I have a few. One is the the first time I beat Lance and getting enraged that my rival beat me to it. The first time I walked into Celedon city was also incredible (the buildings were tall :D). Fighting in Giovanni in Saffron after getting lost many times, trying for hours on end to catch a Chansey, the feeling I had when I first caught Zapdos, feeling freaked out in a certain cave hunting down Mewtwo without any items on me...

*sigh*

Of course I had my stupid moments too. Like wasting the Masterball on an Onyx the first time I got it.

...

Oh, right I have to hit post so you guys can take your respective turns! I could ramble on so I will! but I'll let you start.

Go!

Remember what it was like to name your rival?
Remember what it was like to name your rival something respectable?

Those were the days. [sub]Those were the days...[/sub]

I look forward to the potential nostalgia this thread is going to bring.

I remember being the first among my friends to figure out that you just had to give that gatekeeper something to drink. I felt like such a genius.
Then I stepped into this god dang city with MASSIVE buildings everywhere and got really excited. I didn't know where to start!
Man I was a dopey kid.

Also, Rock Tunnel.
Fuck Rock Tunnel.

I remeber the first time my Wartortle evolved into a Blastoise. I'd never seen any photos or really heard anything about the game when I got it, and the level oh "holy shit that is the awesomest thing I have ever seen" has never been capped since.

Yeah, Rock Tunnel can go to hell. I just loved the rpg aspect. I was a big PC kid at the time, and the GBP was my first handheld, with Blue as my first game for it. I loved the lengthy game that I could take anywhere, and believe me, I took it everywhere.

Actually, I kinda want to play the original again. BRB. In a year.

Haha, yeah... I did it without Flash the first time. Many hours gone down the drain there :D
I refused to do it with Flash almost every time I played.
I wanted to keep my full party as it currently was and I didn't want to get rid of any of their moves.

I had the mistaken impression that anything that didn't deal damage was useless, you see. I made a habit out of training everything up so I could dominate all of my opponents instead of battling tactically.
I still do this purely out of habit.

I still play the same way I did when I was a kid. I didn't know STAB back then but I've always just had offensive moves of the same type as the Pokemon. And I remember teaching flash after Rock Tunnel and realizing later I couldn't teach over it...

Man, that made me angry.

[sub]I'll also never forget battling and trading with a friend in a very dirty basement with the link cable.[/sub]

I completely ignored the advice to train a variety of pokémon and instead made it all the way to the Final Four on the strength of my starter, a Squirtle named Bubbles. Then I found out why you need more than one Pokémon to beat the game.

Don't worry OP, I wasted mine on a Ditto.

OT: Mewtwo, god damn Mewtwo. So powerful in the single-player. He made Link cable battles in a Mewtwo fest though, which wasn't that fun and led to "No legendaries". Beating the Elite Four was hard as hell, but satisfying.

I remember trying to be like the gym leaders and go all out with a one type specialty...

Yeah, guess how that turned out.

When I finally caught Mewtwo. My mom dragged me out with her somewhere and I brought my Gameboy. I used a move on him that almost killed him and I was so scared, then it was so low. I brought out one to use Stun Spore and 10 Ultra Balls later he was mine. I got back home and my dad just got home and I was so excited I caught Mewtwo. He gave me fatherly fake enthusiasm and then asked What's a Mewtwo?

I think my avatar says it all. The first time I got the big guy, I was stoked, and then immediately laid waste to everything.
