Pokemon, first gen memories

Watching my little charmander grow into a charizard was... amazing, to say the least. Also, giving a moon stone to a nidorino for the first time

The first time I won the game. My Haunter used Selfdestruct on Red's Pidgeot, which didn't even take it out. My Gyarados then won the battle single-handedly. I remember that it took 3 Fire Blasts to knock out Venusaur.

I did it in 1 hour once, thanks to the Dodrio Tower in Pokemon Stadium. My best time on the GBC was about 1 1/2 hours for Red.

EDIT: I started playing Blue again a few months ago. I found out about a glitch for catching Mew near the beginning and haven't kept the guy out of my party since.

i was 6 at the most when i got Red version. I remember restarting several times, because i wanted to try the other starts. I remember sticking with Charmander and i thought i actually had to name him Charmander so i did. I remember exactly where i was when it evolved for the first time, i was at my late Grandfather's living room and it was evening. I remember not know how to catch any pokemon so an older kid showed me and i ended up catching 5 Rattatas. I remember on one of my playthroughs i lvled a Venasuar to lvl 100 without the Missing No. rare candy glitch. Those were the days...

oh and i remember my cousin didnt know how to fight Brock, so he ended up just staying in the forest, he lvled his Blastoise to lvl 41 before i showed him where Brock was.

I remember I named him gary, after that it was ass-pickle or douché. A fond memory I had was playing pokémon during recess one day in a group trying to get that god damn missingno.

Of course there was the memorable soundtrack of Mount Moon, which was both beautiful and nostalgic, until a freakin' Zubat comes out of nowhere and decides to confuse you. Then there was leaving Pallet town your first time, listening to the route one tune and traveling with your trusty Bulbasaur, trying to decide what future Pokemon you will capture. And finally, there is the Safari Zone, and how excited I was whenever I saw a Dratini or a Dragonair, and then they decide to flee right away. Pokemon games have VERY nostalgic tunes.

Ah, the first generation. I grew up with Pokemon Yellow (and yes, I do love Pikachu) and had many adventures. Since the second/third gen split I haven't played it very often anymore (except for an abandoned LP of it but that is a different story).

I have a few. One is the the first time I beat Lance and getting enraged that my rival beat me to it. The first time I walked into Celedon city was also incredible (the buildings were tall ). Fighting in Giovanni in Saffron after getting lost many times, trying for hours on end to catch a Chansey, the feeling I had when I first caught Zapdos, feeling freaked out in a certain cave hunting down Mewtwo without any items on me...

*sigh*

Of course I had my stupid moments too. Like wasting the Masterball on an Onyx the first time I got it.

I remember creating a team of Zapdos, Articuno, Moltres, Aerodactyl, Pidgeot and <another flying pokemon I can't remember; maybe Fearow>, and I got absolutely destroyed by the first elite four member. :C

ya if i didnt see it myself i would not have believed it. He was getting only like 1 or 2 xp a fight

For me, the frustration of catching Tauros.

Throw a poke ball? Runs away.
Throw some bait? Runs away.
Throw a rock? Runs away.

I spent weeks just trying to catch one of these just so I could complete the pokedex.

Plus it was still at the time I could shock my friends with having caught some of the more ones you don't find near the beginning, I had a friend once when we were link battling that was shocked when I used a seadra I had caught against him.

On Pokemon Yellow, Pikachu sucked agaisnt brock, I remember having to find a Mankey, and teaching it KARATE KICK, lol no I think it was karate chop? I cant remember, but anyway it kicked ass.

I recall wasting a Masterball on a zapdos.

Oh and having one badass level 80 something Pigeot.

(There was always that friend who had every fucking pro thing in the game, every pokemon, all badges, £52349279246, MEWTWO, MEW!?, 65 Master balls, somehow.. Fuck you friend, fuck you)

Having Yellow as well I know what you mean. My pokemon that I used to get around it was a Nidoran male (of course the Cerulean gym was a piece of cake). Eventually I turned him into a Nidoking and he became my best Pokemon in my party, followed closely by my Zapdos (who I also wasted a Masterball on because I didn't want to figure out how to catch it the other way). My Nidoking knew Horn Drill (which seemed to hit 3 out of five times, awesome), Pay Day (free money!), Surf (yeah he was the guy I used to get around), and double kick. I miss him... :`(

I also remember Pikachu freaking out when you first met Bill. That was pretty funny. He was all like "WTF?"

Being able to lord it over all my friends because I could catch Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle, as well as having a pikachu in Yellow ^^

Eventually, any time anyone came to me and tried to battle, I'd mop the damn floor with them with Charizard, Blastoise and Venusaur. ^^
