Best memories:
- Training Nidoking to level 100, my first main Pokemon and always my favorite.
- Beating Brock with a team of Metapod.
- Fighting Erika always stuck with me, for some reason.

Worst memories:
- Wasted my Master Ball on... wait for it... Magikarp. =.=
- Training Koffing. I don't know why, but that was the worst experience that I had in the Pokemon games.

I also remember Pikachu freaking out when you first met Bill. That was pretty funny. He was all like "WTF?"
Haha, yeah that was an awesome scene :D

Incidentally I remember my Zubat rage and the psychological consequences of getting lost in Mt. Moon for the first time. It was pure evil! At the time I had no idea that swapping out Pokemon would fix confusion and it always hit itself in its confusion. For a time I heard the cry of Zubat in my nightmares. Oh and the disappointment of not being able to evolve my Pikachu. My friend had a Raichu and I was really jealous. I eventually got over it though.

*Nostalgic sigh*

My favorite moment in the first was probably catching Mewtwo. My favorite of all time though has got to be kicking my previous character's ass in gold. Trading me that mewtwo wasn't very smart of him :)

I got my first Gameboy Color from Sams Club with Pokemon Blue. My first starter was Bulbasaur. He is still my #1 Fav.

I just remember the excitement of being able to catch the little creatures that I saw in the Pokemon anime. Wait, I remember more than that:
- Arguing over which one was harder/better, Red or Blue.
- Being labeled the hero when you brought a link cable to recess.
- Catching Mewtwo and almost peeing my pants.
- The Missigno glitch.
- Only using offensive moves because the other moves didn't make sense to me.
- Sabrina's...Friggin...Gym... (Still, to this day, can't completely figure it out.)
- Picking Charmander as my first starter and getting frustrated that I couldn't beat Brock.
- FINALLY beating Brock.
- The moment of euphoria when I first beat the Elite Four.

If I think of more, I'll post em'. T'was a fun post. =-D

The things I remember were:

1. Getting a farfetch'd (did I spell it right?)
2. Not knowing what the hell Bill's PC was about for the longest time.

My most vivid memory is of the Safari Zone. It wasn't the prospect of catching rare Pokemon, though the notion did have appeal to me. No, what makes the Safari Zone stick out in my mind is the quest for HM03, Surf.

Any R/B/Y veteran will tell you the significance of this; unlike in later generations, where you receive the vital HM from a mentor or some such at a key point during the narrative, in Generation I, you've got to find it yourself, and without any clues to go on, this is not an easy thing to do. Luckily, I had a friend who was reasonably well-versed in Pokemon, and he was glad to tell me that HM03 could be found in the Safari Zone. He didn't say where, just that it could be found there.

Now, under normal circumstances, this wouldn't be a problem. The Safari Zone is a pretty big area, but by the time you get to Fuscia City, you're experienced enough in exploration to get around easily enough. The problem is the time limit. That horrible, horrible time limit. 500 steps, and 500 steps only.

I was stuck at this part for days. I'd pay my 500 zenny, meticulously comb the area, run out of time and start all over again. It seemed as though the HM was always just beyond my reach. If I could just have a few more steps, just a little more time, I would have had it.

The day I finally managed to find that secret house remains one of my greatest gaming triumphs. It might seem small and insignificant, but it was a huge victory for me, and as frustrating as it was at the time, I wouldn't trade the memory for anything.

I think I was in the Fuchsia City area for many hours searching for that house in the Safari Zone. Now, when I play, I don't even bother with Surf - I can use the Safari Zone as a leapfrog point to walk through any outdoor obstacle I want to cross.

The multiplying items glitch by doing that thing with Missingno.

Getting Mew on Pokémon Blue from a friend who had Gold/Silver. I still have my Mew. :D

That's gotta be the best picture ever :D

I prefer Fire Red and Leaf Green, the only difference is graphics and some bugfixes, why not?
I suppose it doesn't have MissingNO though...

I completely ignored the advice to train a variety of pokémon and instead made it all the way to the Final Four on the strength of my starter, a Squirtle named Bubbles. Then I found out why you need more than one Pokémon to beat the game.
I did this but only because I played pokemon blue when I was 5 and still struggling to read all the fancy words. I just looked at the pictures. It was awesome

Okay guys, you got me to register with this thread. The first version I played was Yellow on the GBC. I remember...
- The awesome animated intro with Pikachu running at the screen and shouting his name through the magic of GB DPCM
- Having to catch a Weedle and evolve it to Butterfree to beat Brock
- Raising a Dratini into an absolutely kickass Dragonite with a hyperbeam that could annihilate anything
- The feeling of sadness as the S.S. Saint Anne sailed off, locking me off from its interior for the rest of the game
- Catching an Eevee for the first time and naming him in honor of my friend Steven ("Steevee")
- Catching a Vulpix and raising it into a kickass fire-breather
- Evolving my Haunter into a Gengar via trade for the first time
- Receiving Porygon. Hell yeah!
- The feeling of amazed disbelief when I first caught Zapdos
- The infuriating battle of trying to catch Snorlax

To be perfectly honest, I enjoyed Silver as much as Yellow, in spite of the disappointingly-stupid Unown. I'm still trying to make it through Heart Gold. I've finally started nicknaming my Pokemon. I've got C.Coolidge (Whooper) and am looking forward to catching W.H. Taft (Snorlax) =)

I can't really remember much of playing the first gen, so there isn't as much nostalgia for me there. It's the second generation, Pokemon Crystal which gives me massive nostalgia! The memories... damn I love Cyndaquil.

Is it just me, or do people around her remember GSC more?

i never played them, luckily, so I mostly remember my Yellow and Red, and my sisters Blue.
I did have R+S (not emerald) and i was talking to my friend and these are the ones he remembers most.

Missingno. The greatest Pokemon ever. With its Sky Attack. That and the bikers to the left of Lavender Town, I dunno why those guys stuck with me.
