Magnus walked about the deck of the boat, watching the waves made by the 500-foot Passenger-ship. He heard a frantic flapping and an electrical shock, and saw Alan's Magneton and Golbat floating and flying away from a paralyzed Houndoom.
"Hmm..." Magnus said to himself. He approached the paralyzed Skull-dog Pokemon and placed a Cheri Berry next to its face. Continuing along, he tried to find someone willing to battle him. A young boy, about ten-years-old, was holding a pokeball in his hand just staring at it. Magnus remembered that look, it was the look of a child who's received their first Pokemon. He saw it with his siblings and their first Pokemon, and with himself when he was given Quillz.
"Hey kid." Magnus said to the boy when they got within talking distance. "That your first Pokemon?"
"Huh? Yeah, it is!" The boy said with a youthful excitement. "I just got it last week, and my parents agreed to let me go be a Trainer."
"I remember when I started my journey... I was so excited." Magnus remembered that day, only months ago. "I know it was only a few months ago, but it seems like years."
"Oh yeah? Did you meet any cool people?" The boy asked with genuine curiosity.
"Yeah, I did... I'm traveling with some pretty cool people. I've also had to say goodbye to some amazing people too..." Magnus let out a sigh, remembering all those whom he had met. "You'll meet people too. For example, you've just met me."
"Sounds neat, mister." The boy looked at his pokeball once more. "Hey! Do you want to battle?"
"Sure kid, I'll battle with you. I have a Pokemon who should be about your level that needs some training." Magnus grabbed Eon's pokeball from his belt. "How about one-on-one? Go Eon!"
The young purple Vaporeon beamed out of his pokeball, and stood ready for battle. The boy was a little shocked at the color, and grabbed his Pokedex to examine Eon.
"Awesome, my first battle!" The boy said with excitement sparkling in his eyes. "Go Phanpy!"
A small blue elephant-like Pokemon emerged from the boy's pokeball. He and Magnus stared off, as did their Pokemon. Magnus remembered why he was a Trainer, why he left for his Pokemon journey.
