So, I got it last night at the midnight release cause...my friends showed up to go to it.

So Ive been playing it. Now, I know I was going in with a cynical attitude due to all the awful pokemon and dumb ideas...

and its not changing anytime soon. MY GOD JUST LET ME PLAY! 20 minutes before I even got my starter, and I used to think Red and Blue took too long to get started. And Im over 2 hours in and still being rail-roaded to all hell. Now I am being BULL-ied into going to the trainer school, something usually quite optional. Can I please have a "Im not a 2 year old, I know how Pokemon works" option?

I also dont really feel like Im playing a new generation of Pokemon. I dont know if its cause the game is pissing me off, or if its cause I played too much Pokemon in my life, or if its cause I feel like Im just playing a combination of last gen. Feels more like X and Y, but in a tropical ORAS setting...meh.

Also a bunch of little changes Im not sure how I feel about. Trivial enough to get over, but still. The game now tells you if moves are super-effective or not. If I was new, Id probably love it, but I guess cause I worked hard to know all the types, it makes my knowledge feel trivialized.

And now you can Pokemon-Amie after battle. I guess as a means to get people to use it, though Amie really is just there to make a rather easy game even easier.

I want my opinion on this game to improve...but its not...

Oh yeah, and you have a Rotom, but dont. Your Pokedex has a Rotom in it...but you dont "own" it nor is it in your Pokedex list. I wish Pokemon you just meet would get added. Even Ash dragged out his Dex every two seconds in the original cartoon.

Anyways, I mean, its a new Pokemon game. I guess people are either playing it, or waiting to get it, but Id have thought there'd be a little more discussion on it than there is.

Maybe there will be something once you get the nationaldex that will prompt the Rotom to join you?

Does Tierno ever make an appearance? Do we ever get to see his big dance performance?

That was the thing that really cheesed me off about x and y.....they hyped the hell out of Tierno's big dance performance and never delivered.

I am playing Pokemon Red on the 3DS and I was just thinking to myself how lean it is. Hearing that this one is bogged down with tutorials (my copy arrives on Tuesday) makes me sad.

Eh, I got a living Pokedex. I just wish that all pokemon you interact with would go right in the Dex list.

I just wish I could skip it. I mean, some of these might be good for actual new and younger players, but they have to know that alot of people arent going to be new, nor young, to a Pokemon game.

There is even a quest arrow (red flag on your map) to tell you where to go. Pokemon wasnt ever supposed to be the most hardcore game, but like...theres hand holding, and theres sewing our hands together and dragging me everywhere.

I remember having this exact reaction to the first couple of hours of pokemon Y. That got better after a while once the tutorials are over.

Each game is more and more tutorialized.

Honestly, I dont truly enjoy the game until I either I get fly, or the plot is over. I wish Pokemon games would have less plot, not more, and be less linear.

Well, at least the game isn't basically telling you to go fuck yourself at the start anymore if you pick Charmander as your starter. I'm not kidding. I'm playing through LeafGreen at the moment, and I swear, that game got EVEN MORE BRUTAL in the beginning than Red/Blue if you pick the baby dragon, because the AI got a huge upgrade. No more will the AI just pick moves totally randomly. Oh no, they will now seize every advantage to kick your face in if they can. Was just playing Brock yesterday and the fucker was spamming Rock Tomb KNOWING that I would just die so fast under that shit.

I guess their logic is that if you pick the most awesome pokemon, you better be awesome yourself before they actually let you have it. lol

Ehh, if Shin Megami Tensei tells you what moves are super effective with all of 8 elements, I figure it's okay for Pokemon to tell you with their 18 types and most Pokemon having two of the bastards.

Granted, I've only played a borrowed Blue, most of HeartGold, and some of Alpha Sapphire, so that damned type chart isn't something I already know.

Eh, you have to fight the Pokemon first apparently. It was a very minor complain though that I will get over, especially compared to the bigger ones.

Though you can now switch in Pokemon you just got without having to go to a PC, so thats pretty cool.

I've played about 8 hours of Moon, and I really love it.

The game has one glaring problem, the frame rate drops horribly with certain moves or certain pokemon.
I guess the 3DS's components are just getting a little too old.

Other than that its great.

I feel that people who think like this always forget one crucial fact about Pokemon..

Children are the primary demographic.

Not teens, not adults. Just children aging from around 5-13. When I remind myself of that fact, I'm fine with the trivial things that are a minor nuisance to me, because they're a huge help to children.

And saying that all of the new Pokemon designs are 'awful', and the ideas are 'dumb' is just harsh.. Beyond the sheer number of quality of life changes, I honestly call bullshit whenever anyone claims that new Pokemon generations are entirely worse than older gens, or that the older generations are entirely great. One's opinion might view some designs as worse than the rest, and some better than the rest. But to say that 80~ designs are entirely worse than 721 other designs is exceptionally unlikely. The designs are always a mixed bag between 'cool', 'cute' and 'wacky'.. Again, to appeal to children.

On that note, a common complaint with reviewers is that the game is more handholding than the original. So I guess I'll see on Tuesday.. Considering the game isn't out yet in the EU.
Might have been a good argument in the 90's or early 2000's, but they should be well aware of how many adults play these games too. Adults who have been playing since they were little kids.

And I hate ALL the crappy Pokemon. Mr.Mime is awful and I want it gone just as much as many others, but it seems the NUMBER of bad pokemon increases every gen.

Isn't it the point of the newest ones to not be like Black and White? It completely got rid of the old Pok?mon as a way to start fresh, but sadly it backfired as an attempted reboot. So now they decided to make less Pok?mon each gen and keep throwing the bone for the old ones (megas, regional forms, etc). Granted, with less Pok?mon there is a chance the "ones you like" over "ones you hate" ratio is at the risk of being high, but at least is better than introducing a number of ones that you have no opinion on, have no intention of ever using and is forced to remember it exists to complete the dex.

Black and White was awesome (asside from adding Trubbish, the WORST pokemon of all Pokemon). I hope they keep doing a refresher gen where everything is new. It was nice feeling that same sense of discovery I had as a kid. Gen 6 I was like "Why is half my team the same team I had years ago?"

It isn't an argument, it's a fact. Adults are a secondary demographic for the game. They've made many quality of life changes and features to support/help adults, even competitive players.

But fact remains.. Children are the key target audience. Many of the design choices are there to make it easily accessible for young children just getting the games. They even come bundled with 2DSs.. A console literally designed for children and low income individuals.

So to you I say... Suck it up. Stop whining that Nintendo isn't catering to your age group specifically. I'm not saying you have to like the hand holding or less serious Pokemon designs. But the mature thing would be to accept it. Because a far younger community is out there enjoying them.
The amounts of adults I saw standing in the cold to get Sun and Moon two nights ago begs to differ.

No... No it doesn't. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt on this one, and assume you thought AFTER making the post. But it doesn't take a genius to piece together that...

A). A child aged 5-13 isn't going to be out at MIDNIGHT for a game.
B). A good few of those adults could have younger relatives
C). A parent is less inclined to wait at a midnight release for a game for their child.

Honestly... I find it baffling how people get so absorbed in their own little bubbles that they honestly believe everything is catered to them.

Yes, you played Pokemon as a child. Yes, you're an adult now. But there's a reason the formula hasn't changed in 20 years. I'm hoping to god I don't have to sit here and explain it. -.-
Im not someone who isnt neck deep in Pokemon. I know tons of adults who loved and love the series. And it hasnt changed much for a few reasons, 1 is people dont want major changes. They -say- that but thats false. And Nintendo knows this, and thats why every game of theirs tend to be very much the same.

I know that they do expect alot of kids to play it too, but kids arent as stupid as these new games seem to think we are. I dont see why they need to be made easier than they already are.

But maybe you should play the game first.
