my example is gyarados you know a water dragon should own right? but you get a lightning poke on it and not only does it double the attack it doubles it again since its flying and water! also it should have a good water/ice attack but its special atk sucks so its best move is hyper beam which sucks

edit: gyarados is better then i thought i retract it. It's a awesome pokemon :p

Umm... Gyarados doesn't suck at all. Aside from his electric weakness, he's damn tough. One of the better pokes in the game.

I think Charizard probably qualifies, though. I mean, he LOOKS really impressive but he's got WAAAY to many weaknesses, and a somewhat-shallow movepool.

i do like him but he should be water dragon not water flying since he doesnt self learn any flying moves

That's Balance, if he was water dragon he would only be weak to dragon. Of which there was only one type (Dragonite familt) when he first appeared. He needs to be weak to lightning or else he would be nigh unstoppable.

Stealth Rock meant the death to so many pokemon. Poor Charizard and Articuno.

Also I will mention Absol, looks so cool but is meh. Awesome attack though.

Actually, fun fact, he CAN learn a flying move. Bounce, to be exact. He can learn it as an Egg move from Magikarp.

Who was second gen. And had a totally different movepool and stats.

So like Kingdra in the same way as Blastoise and Feraligater. Totally different pokes.

Every flying, fire, ice and bug type ever. After all:

Not to mention that electric pokemon and many pokemon that often use electric attacks generally have high special attack anyway, so even single type water pokemon in general end up getting one-shot.

This arguement was immediately made invalid in GenIV when Gyarados gained Aqua Tail as a level move.

He gets STAB with it and it does 90 base damage, boosted by the STAB. Since it's a Physical move, that means it benefits from his high Attack.

Proceed to kill everything.

Anyway, I says Smeargle.

A Pokemon whose Signature move Sketch can permanantly learn ANY move (Aeroblast, Outrage, Blast Burn, you name it)? A single evo? Well, he should have pretty good stats, right?

No, Smeargle has horrible stats. If only his base stat total were boosted by a spread of about thirty-to-fifty he'd be useful enough, but as it is he's weak like nobody's business.

Until Swampert shows up and ruins their day with an earthquake.

I'm disappointed in you Escapist. Nobody's pointed out that Hyper Beam is a special move now.

Why in the world would anybody use hyper beam. Hydro pump would be more powerful because of STAB, let alone the fact that any move requiring recharging is a waste.

It's okay if you hadn't played Gen 4 you wouldn't have noticed the change. In Diamond and Pearl onwards they went through and made physical/special an attribute of each attack instead of its type. Then to compensate they made a physical move identical to Hyper Beam called Giga Impact.

Gyarados' physical move-pool got a little better when they did it, but it's still not fantastic. It's strongest water attack is 90 power, 90% accuracy... or Waterfall if you want 100% accuracy.

Also this... unless you're a Slaking, then Giga Impact is good for a laugh

Paras/Parasect. It's so cool, but not very practical battle-wise.
I even came up with a song for it.

Spore
Lock-on
1-hit ko move
other 1-hit ko move

There's a reason he was banned from tournaments when he was released. There were very few counters to a fast Smeargle with a Quick Claw back then, and even now, I've taken people unawares by it.

OT: I'm gonna have to go with Charizard. Just way too much working against him to be viable.

OHKO moves are typically banned from standard play. Plus any mach munch user could destroy that set up. Also another pokemon that got shafted was Tropius. It could be fixed so easily by boosting some of its base stats, making it grass/dragon and making leaf blade + dragon dance compatible but nope it sucks.
