Until Swampert shows up and ruins their day with an earthquake.
I loved swampert for that reason. 3rd gen was the first one I actually played (not counting n64 pokemon stadium games XD) and as soon as I saw it I was like:
"whoa wait, i get a duel type whose super effective/resistant against one of it's only main weaknesses? pft, easy choice there" Doesn't matter about the extra grass type weakness, All you do it destroy them before they get to attack, or swap to a different pokemon.

((k, you can probably zone out now, i'm just talking cause i don't get a chance to talk about pokemon normally, but anyway: ))

When i was younger i had that worked out all scientifically man :p Water type makes your moves strong against fire, rock and ground
ground type moves strong against fire, electric, poison rock and steel
and then a powerful normal type move would clear out anything else that happen to be immune
and then his own duel type made it so only grass type moves are super effective. (maybe immune to electricity, I can't remember)

I wasn't a compedative player, so this was just in the game normally, but he seemed pretty good with stuff like earthquake, surf, muddy water and take down[or strength], which worked as both functional in the game for getting around with surf, potentially waterfall, and potentially strength, and good in battle too. It's moves also were good for double battle cause surf, earthquake and muddy water would all hit multiple opponents.

So yeah, good pokemon.
-------------

as for one that falls short:
Shedinja
it sounds like it's going to be super awesome, i mean, it can't be damaged by anything unless it's super effective? and it's a ghost type, so it's gotta cool right?
But really it's not very good at all, heaps and heaps of weaknesses, and it's attacks did bugger all XD

Nidoran male and female need to be the same Pokemon. They were introduced back before gender was a thin, so you can't really fault the developers, but it really needs to be one Pokemon with two different appearances based on gender (like many Pokemon after Gen IV), and just evolves into Nidorino or Nidorina depending if its male or female.

Except that would fuck up the entire pokedex numbering.

Perhaps, but are they really that different that they can't change them? I mean, they're move-sets can differ after they evolve into their respective branches.

They each learn five moves before they evolve, the last two they share and the others are different. After that about... half I think of their moves are unique.

Still. These are the things they would have to find a compromise between

Height
Weight
Color
Footprints
Pokedex entries
Shiny Colors

EV yield
Experience yield
Stat distribution

Learned moves
Available TMs
Breeding moves

I'm not saying it can't be done, but I still think it's probably better to just leave them alone. None of the other sexual dimorphism is that extreme, except in a few cases like Volbeat/Illumise where they're also given different names and considered separate species.

Almost every early staged Pokemon in the new generations. Why? Because they're cute, but as they evolve they become mean-looking or ugly in a way. Not against it, but I mean, they should keep their resemblance to a closer degree. Here's an example:

Sure it could be because since they're evolving, they're getting more powerful so power = toughness and that will reflect on the Pokemon's appearance after but.. I don't like the concept. We could still have- eh never mind then lol.
i agree with you except for the first one you got there i think the final stage looks awesome. still a little cute

A big chunk of the Gen 5 roster.

Aside from the unfavorable or uninspiring designs, many have useless or cheap abilities, their stats are all over the place and some of the better Pokemon take too long to evolve into. A Pokemon's first evolution at Lvl. 50? A final evolution at Lvl. 64? Why?

Also Absol because he is so badass but got totally shafted, all he has is night slash + super luck.

Smogon is literal poison on the pokemon community.

I do have to say Charizard. It sucks IMO, I don't see the real "coolness" behind him either. its a fat dragon that's instakilled by my Scolipede every time.

My least favorite Pokemon hmmm...probably Diamond and Pearl. Oooooh I went there.

But seriously, Venusaur: statistically weaker than Charizard and Blastoise, why?
Onix: a giant snake out of rock shouldn't be so weak in offense.
Ditto: such a good idea but it never works because when you use it all you ever see is "not very effective"

Most of the second gen are weak compared to earlier/later gens.

Not sure if you've played any other games besides Platinum, but before Gen 5, the highest level it took a few Pokemon to evolve into their final evolution was around the 50s. Some people might argue that becomes some Pokemon in Gen 5 are found later in the game (i.e. are at a high level to when encountered), that their evolution should come 10 levels later, which is ridiculous. For the sake of breeding, training, and EV training, it is much difficult and time consuming to get a Pokemon to level 50 than to level 20.

I third Pikachu. I was royally pissed off when Pokémon Yellow wouldn?t allow me to evolve him to Raichu with a Thunder Stone. Pikachu was probably one of my least-used Pokémon, despite being my starter.

Abra?s cute, but due to his only move being ?Teleport?, he?s completely fucking useless until you evolve him into Kadabra.

And a bunch of normal-types I can?t be bothered to list the names of. The only one I can think of that stood out was Raticate, because of that one really good move he had that drained most of the opponent?s health.
