I have this problem every time I play Pokémon. The Pokémon I like aren't always the best, and sometimes I'm stuck with a Pokémon that drags the whole team down but that I don't want to switch out because I like it. Sunflora is the example that comes to mind.

It's almost worse when you have one that could work really well if you evolve, but would loose all charm if you do so. Bulbasaur is a good example, probably one of my favorite Pokémon, but to be useful you need to evolve him into Venusaur, who looks absolutely terrible :-/ I usually go for a compromise and keep him as an Ivysaur :p

Umm... Gyarados doesn't suck at all. Aside from his electric weakness, he's damn tough. One of the better pokes in the game.

I think Charizard probably qualifies, though. I mean, he LOOKS really impressive but he's got WAAAY to many weaknesses, and a somewhat-shallow movepool.
i do like him but he should be water dragon not water flying since he doesnt self learn any flying moves
That's Balance, if he was water dragon he would only be weak to dragon. Of which there was only one type (Dragonite familt) when he first appeared. He needs to be weak to lightning or else he would be nigh unstoppable.

Stealth Rock meant the death to so many pokemon. Poor Charizard and Articuno.

Also I will mention Absol, looks so cool but is meh. Awesome attack though.
Stealth Rock is not the end all to every Poke that has a x4 weakness to Rock. After all if you have a Yanmega or a Charizard on your team, you need to prepare better. Why not deal with it in this manner.

1. Put a rapid spinner on your team.(Rapid spin removes entry hazards.)
Pokemon with Rapid Spin, Donphan, Starmie, Forretress, Excadrill, Cloyster, Cyrogonal, Blastoise, Armaldo, Torkoal, Tentacruel, Kabutops, Sandslash, Hitmontop, Claydol, Hitmonlee Delibird, Spinda, Hitmonchan.

2. Taunt- Forces your opponent to use nothing but attacking moves. Taunt the son of a ***** who wants to lay down Stealth Rock.

3. Magic Bounce- Both Espeon and Xatu have an ability to bounce back non attacking moves.

Those are just from the top of my head.
And there are ways to counter them. Look Stealth Rocks doesn't mean automatic NU, like at Larvesta, but rather that pokemon has to face considerable difficulties. In fact you often have to start building a team to minimize that weakness.

So yes it's possible to minimize the effects of stealth Rock. But it's an uphill battle.

edit: gyarados is better then i thought i retract it. It's a awesome pokemon :p
:p I was gonna say, I haven't played many pokemon games, but I do know two things for certain: Always pick Fire as your starter, and get yourself a Gyrados for a DAMN good tank/water type.

As for my own suggestion to the topic, I forget what it's called, but it's the final evolution for Ninjask, that floating golden beetle thing. Seems like it would be the perfect specialty pokemon...the only thing that can hurt it are attacks that it has a specific type-weakness to. Well, unfortunately it seemms that EVERY SINGLE POKEMON has at least one attack that is effective against bug and/or dark type (mostly Bug, though) and as such your "invincible" golden beetle will quite often end up getting destroyed.
Bug/Ghost. Shedinja. Yeah, it's a pretty disappointing Pokemon. You'd think, being a Ghost, it'd be decent, but nope. Every Pokemon in existence has a move that will hit it (Fire, Ghost, Flying, Rock, Dark, which are all startlingly common whenever you want to use the damn thing), it has absolutely terrible speed and its defense doesn't matter because it has 1 HP, and its Attack/Special Attack really aren't that special either.

I don't care how pathetic Pikachu is, I still made mine as badass as I could in SoulSilver with that Light Ball thing that doubles up its Attack/Special Attack power.

Also, as much as I used Haunter, in Gen. I Ghost-types (had there been anything more than the Gastly family) sucked, considering Lick was the only Ghost-type move that benefited from anything, and I think was one of only two Ghost-type moves to begin with. Though my memory might be fuzzy... were there more Ghost-type moves than Lick and Night Shade in Gen. I? Also, Ghosts were supposed to be strong against Psychic types... but then they made the Gastly-family part Poison too... SERIOUSLY?

When I was a kid my favourite Pokemon was Ponyta, based purely on looks and the fact that I liked ponies. Even nowadays when I'm playing the card game I'm always tempted to put a few into my decks. Then I remember how dull they are to play.

Pidgeot. It is my favorite bird evolution. I really like 3 stage evolution bird pokemon for some reason, and pidgeot is just so cool looking, but has crappy stats T_T. I mean just look at it, it's freaking awesome! Is both cute and bad-ass.

Flareon. Good attack, poor special attack, only fire bite as a decent physical fire attack. He was always cut from my Eveelution team.

I have the opposite problem: beartic is one of my favorites but it sucks due to being an ice type and having an ability that doesn't really even help it out

Hold up, lemme check my chart.

Parasect, Farfetch'd, Sunflora, Dunsparce, Volbeat, Kecleon, Plusle, Abomasnow, Wormadam (Plant), Magcargo, Delibird, Stunfisk, Sableye

...I'm sure I have even more Pokemon that are considered sucky, but those are the ones that are in my teams that are generally considered pretty bad.

"Strong Pokemon. Weak Pokemon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled trainers should try to win with their favorites."

I know it sounds crazy, but that one Karen quote made me change how I played Pokemon. I use Pokemon I like. I've never used a Pokemon just because it's considered strong.

Flareon:
It has good stats, and seems like it should be half decent, but it gets no god damned physical fire moves other than fire fang.....flare blitz or something would be nice.

Onix:
It sort of makes sense that it's weak now I guess because it's not evolved, but the thing always seemed pretty damn weak in gen1 considering it's a GOD DAMNED GIANT ROCK SNAKE!

Plusle/Minun:
They were supposed to compliment each other in double battles, but they're pretty damn useless even when they are together...

Golurk:
looks pretty damn awesome, and has a pretty nice attack power, but it would be nice if it had some speed or better defences to back up that power.

This sort of thing happens to me alot. Quite alot in fact. Spinda is a fantastic pokemon in concept. He just confuses alot of people alot and that makes me happy. I make sure to use him alot. However, he ends up dying alot since he has terrible stats. I really like to use him alot, but he dies alot. That makes me sad alot.

I've never played Pokemon PvP or looked into the stats so it's hard to say. I do often struggle to use normal type Pokemon effectively, particularly when it comes to the cat type Pokemon. I know Nidoking and Nidoqueen thrashed everything in yellow version, but they feel a lot more vulnerable in recent gens. I also get in a bit of trouble trying to make all-fire teams. Stupid HMs, always ruin my fun. -_-

Out of curiosity, can anyone tell me how a Ninetails generally does in PvP~? Is it any good~?
