Are there actually any other new pokemon apart from the 3 starters and the two legendaries? Because that footage didn't show any other pokemon apart from them at all. Mind you, if they didn't introduce another 100 I'd be mighty pleased with that. I'm just wondering.
With them making everything 3-D I imagine that most of them could be returning pokemon since this would be the first time they get to go 3d but having enough new ones too for added freshness. and likely do future games that way using the remaining G1 or add alot of G2 etc. later.

But the graphics are still kinda outdated.
It's a Pokémon game. That's pretty much like saying there are Pokémon in the game.

Anyway, barring some sort of revelation that Pokemons X and Y steal your soul or render you impotent, I'm probably getting it. Could do without the new Pokés, but a 3D adventure with Pokémon has me fairly intrigued.

Didn't anyone notice that?

Someone used a fire type move on a psyduck!

Also the new legendries don't look dragon typed, which is good... but it won't last long.

Oh wow.. Pokemon finally makes it to the third dimension, huh? Jeeze, I still remember my jaw dropping the first time I saw a Pidgey flap its wings in Crystal.. Oh, those were the days. Finally time to buy myself a 3DS I suppose. Man, I miss the days when my parents would be the ones footin' the Pokemon bill haha

Oh, and the fire starter.. Kawaii, ne? ^_^

I clicked on this thread thinking that OP is probably ranting about Nintendo's habit of releasing two near-identical Pokemon games at a time. But no, they actually went and named these two games X and Y! Wow. No, I'm not saying that it's a bad name choice. Wonder what names will the next Pokemon games have. Alpha and Omega? Ying and Yang? Left and Right? Anyways, I was never really that much into handhelds, and I just can't play the Pokemon games anymore. I mean, the interface in general and the use of the touchscreen in HG/SS was perfect. If you have no use for the touchscreen outside of battle, it's only logical to put the game menu there, so that the player can easily access all their stuff with just a single poke. It was really, really convenient, but no, they still replaced it with that watch thing in Diamond and Pearl. I know it may sound petty and stupid, but I literally stopped playing the Pokemon games and gave my DS to my cousin because the developers didn't stick with the kind of interface that I liked.

Yep, that's a much better thing to get obsessed over.

Diamond / Pearl came out way before HG/SS, and the touch screen menu wasn't used in black/white either because they were developed at the same time in parallel. B&W got some good features out of it and HG/SS got others, but one wasn't built upon the other as usually happens. Hopefully the new games will learn from it and at the very least have more options for the touch screen.

When I first saw the title, I thought it was some kind of placeholder.

So, new graphics and new Pokemon? How revolutionary... I guess it worked the last 5 times, so why fix what isn't broken, right?

If they'd finally improve the entire game system to make it more about taming and training monsters, instead of a graphics overhaul on a 15 year old RPG engine, I might even consider getting it.

We just finished Gen 5. No way in fuck will they announce a new-

[HEADING=2]WE JUST FINISHED GEN 5 GAMEFREAK!!!![/HEADING]

Yeah this actually really annoys me. Gen 4 alone lasted 5 fucking years. Gen 5 is only on it's second! I still have not learned all the names yet! They really should have at least waited till the Mystery Dungeon game was done before pulling this on us!

Still though. I will buy it when it comes out like the sheep I am.

Also come on Gamefreak. Why if the Grass Starter so fucking ugly?

Every game I have chosen the Grass Starter except Gen 4 because Turtwig looked retarded. Let's not have a repeat of that now! However the fire starter looks fucking amazing. Lets just pray it is not Fire Fighting AGAIN.

Looks totes rad. Probably going with either Old Man Frog or Mozilla Firefox. Grass Oshawott seems okay. Now I need to decide on which legendary I like more. Both seem cool.

I'm kind of mixed. I think the graphics are a massive improvement that could probably have been achieved a while ago, but the designs don't intice me all that much, in fact I've already forgotten their names and what they look like. It doesn't seem like they've actually shifted the game around a whole lot either, still the same similar looking character, the same types and the same duo of legendaries.

I dunno, the graphics are very pretty but I don't want to be drawn in by that alone, massively shift around the plot and gameplay and then we'll talk.

I got nothing.

At least they're finally moving to 3D. If I ever get a 3DS, this would probably be one of the games that I get. But -
[ul][li]Dat water starter.[/li]
[li]Dat map for areas outside of cities or enclosed spaces like forests/buildings.[/li]
[li]Dat Grass Oshawott.[/li]
[li]Dat name.[/li][/ul]

Pokemon Z would be a silly name. It would make sense with these two, but it would still be silly considering people already make the joke of calling them "pokemanz". Imagine the confusion. (Yes, that is a joke, but I still think Pokemon X and Pokemon Y are pretty unoriginal names, even if they are choosing it because of the three dimensional planes. Now, if they make the 3D actually impact the game in a significant way instead of just being a graphical overhaul, I'll concede my reservations.)

Alright...so if this was 10 years ago, this might have been cool...though at this point in the game, the graphics are too far behind, there's too many poke'mon and quite frankly, the gameplay hasn't changed its core mechanics since Gen 1...so why shouldn't I go back to playing gold/silver?

thats not a point
if thats the case you should stop playing every video game that isnt a sequel ever because they didnt change the core mechanics

also its a hand held console thats actually good (sorry psp)
so of course the graphics wouldn't be onpar, with say a wiiu

your just being pessimistic

these arent points

The water starter is a frog with glasses.

Game Freak, you magnificent bastards, you.

But really, I hope they step up their game with the designs. I thought Gen IV was ok, but Gen V was trash. I remember an article here not too long ago that discussed the roots of Pokemon like Espeon and Drowzee, which are mythological in origin. Because Game Freak, as much as I love you, you have pretty much run out of animals to base your critters on, and resorted to sub species and inanimate objects. I know y'alls can do it! :D

That said, I do like the look of the fire starter.

... I made no comments about the game remaining unchanged, so I guess we have something in common, because I don't see your point either.

I said if they make the switch to 3D have an impact on the game, I would concede my reservations about their naming conventions. As in, if the game being in 3D has a tangible impact on the mechanics of the world, instead of just being there so they can say "Hey, our game is 3D now!", I'll be fine with them naming it after the three dimensional planes.

Well it is about damn time it went to 3D. It didn't need 3DS technology for that, it could've accomplished that in Gen 4.

The new legenderies and starters all look pretty sweet =) I'll probably pick the Fire one, it looks cute. Here's to hoping it isn't another dual fighting type - if it is, I'd take Grass instead. And the deer legendary reminds me of Princess Mononoke so I'll go for it!

Aaand I guess this solves my dilemma of "Do I get a 3DS or not?". I've wanted one since KH 3D came out but not quite enough for ONLY that. This isn't solid enough reason on it's own either but TOGETHER - yeah I'll have to get one.
I'd recommend the 3DS XL, you get a lot more battery ife out of it for a start, and it looks sleeker and the screens dont press on each other when they're closed.

EDit: though the XL's don't come with an AC adaptor unless you're in the US...
