Alex, I was watching the news when this story was broadcast. I, however could not find the actual story on the internet. So I found the closest thing too it.

A comedian I saw once said it best:

"Political correctness is the death of society. We can't say what we want to anymore; can't convey how we feel without worrying about getting sued. What kind of freedom is that?"

The pro-lifers tend to be reilgious nutcases though. Anyway, it all seems to fall down on the standard idiocy of the generic members of the human race.
Ha. 'Generic members' of the human race. Those nameless, faceless gits that are the mindless sheep of society. This made me laugh. I argee, though...they are the reason political correcness has gotten out of hand.

Political correctness has always irked me. Even back in the late 90s, when it wasn't retarted. Why not say things as they are? Sugar-coating things does no one any good.

PC is the way to be... Oh wait

I am going to agree with those that say there isn't a problem with political correctness unless a group is being "attacked". As long as a term is not used insultingly (retard is the first that comes to mind) then it's no different than saying the "politically correct" thing.

I can honestly say, I think political correctness is just, arbitrary. It's only incorporated to appease the masses that can't find anything else to complain about. The freedom of speech is just that, I can say what I want, and I honestly do. I've angered so many people, but I just look at them and shrug. Just be happy, I don't care about being called, "White." If I complained enough I could have all caucasians being called "European Americans" by so many people out of fear of "insulting" them. I find it all so funny! :]

Just thought I'd search up a thread like this and bring it back up for the newer crowd of The Escapist.
HAVE FUN!

Ideas welcome. :]

Who do you know has been sued for being politically incorrect?
I know of many comedians who have made quite a bit of money being politically incorrect. As far as I know, they've never been outright sued. Although they've been threatened with having their shows pulled or censored.

And apparently Manatees can learn to create ideas for TV shows. It would explain so much, especially about CSI and Smallville.

Actually, PC isn't arbitrary. It's part of something called "social justice." That is to say, certain peoples can say certain things, but certain other peoples cannot say these things. An example would be the difference between a black person saying something racist as opposed to a white person saying something racist. Because of the general outlook of the "black community" and all of the oppression that has come their way by the horrible white people, they are allowed more freedoms than the "white community." That is to say, they can do and say things others cannot.

It's actually a thought process that came from Germany in the 1920s. It's very totalitarian and extremely Marxist.

Say whatever you want because words do not hurt, and if you think that words do hurt that just proves that you have a weak mind. People take everything to seriously and everything you say have to go through the "PC filter" before you can speak your mind.

Seems like people take offense so easily nowadays and you don't have a right to "not be offended" so just build up your own tolerance wall.

Political Correctness, I hate it.
I have always been taught "If you don't like what you see, look away."

But there are those people who don't have the decency to not do over the line things, incurring over the line reactions.

Always about some sort of -ism. Racism, sexism, et cetera...

I just wish most of these people would bloody grow up and act like the adults that they are and not get their panties in a knot over a temporal matter.

People often don't realise how much of a powerful tool language is. I'm currently doing a degree in linguistics, so I have a bit of a better idea (but I don't claim to be an expert here) Words are more than just sound and air. They convey meaning, message and emotion. They provoke responses, be they emotional, cognitive or physical. They shape our perceptions of the world. As a result, if you freely use the word "******", a derisive word with negative connotations, you are not only conveying the message that you think it's okay to insult homosexuals to other people. If, in your mind, the concept of "homosexuals" is linked to the word "******", then you are automatically going to start regarding them and treating them negatively because of the negative connotations of "******".

Political Correctness is essentially an attempt to create a judgement-neutral language - one in which you can describe someones skin colour or sexual orientation or whatever, without resorting to words that have been used offensively or derisively. The good thing about the English language is that we have a lot of synonyms, so even if you aren't allowed use one word to describe something, you can use another. It's not until you start running out of 'allowed' words that things get dangerous.

Words are powerful. They are the most dangerous weapon on the planet, used correctly, far more than nuclear arsenals; those who know how to use words know how to convince you of something. Anything. Hitler started out with nothing, but was a great speechmaker. Word control, language control, is thought control. If you cannot link a concept with a word, you soon lose the ability to concieve of that idea. Read Orwell's "Nineteen Eighty Four" - Big Brother heavily edits the dictionary to remove words like "dissent" or "rebellion" in order to prevent the populace from able to form ideas using these concepts.

The idea behind Political Correctness is essentially noble; a world in which everyone can love each other a big huggy bunch and not worry about hate crime and just get on with the business of Being Goddamn Human. However, taken too far it can be quite frightening and totalitarian. But this can be said about anything. The correct approach to PC is, like the correct approach to anything, moderation.

Jeez, this again.

Fred Phelps.
Fred motherfuckin' Phelps.
Fred motherfuckin' Phelps says horrible, hateful, ridiculous things. And he's allowed to. We don't throw his ass in jail. He and his entire messed-up family/church have been doing the "USA = FAG NATION" thing for years and years now and they get to keep on doing it.
So, if you live in America and think "political correctness" endangers your freedom of speech -- look at Fred motherfuckin' Phelps. Is what you have to say worse than what Fred Phelps has to say? Really?
