I've defiantly noticed with America it's going way overboard. Canada, where I'am, most people can respect what others do.

I don't even like Halloween (it's not a local holiday, all saints day is though) but that doesn't mean I'm going to raise my pitchfork for others that enjoy it.

Where I'm from in Iowa, the local baptists banned Halloween because it "endorses" satanism, drunkenness, perversion, and takes away from the glory of jeebus. The sheriff would actually arrest anyone out after dark and in costume on Halloween.
It isn't only the left that gets all huffy about PC.

PC just sucks no matter what side is endorsing it.
Also, they really did all that? Do people celebrate anything about Halloween at all? Can kids wear costumes? Are certain costumes banned?

Merry f*#$&ing Christmas.

I still say christmas, I haven't changed anything and I have never had anyone get mad at me.

If we really want to be politically correct, we can't say Happy holidays either, because for some people it isn't a very happy time.
Exactly. The whole "X-mas" thing was one of the events that really pushed me over the edge. I am not even a Christian, but that is completely moronic. Its to stupid to even describe why I hate it.

Wait, who would complain about Halloween? There's a difference between being PC and being just plain paranoid. It almost seems like this is just a "pre-emptive name change" just in case some group (god knows who though)will complain about it down the line. If that's the case, then they're still screwed since all the people who say don't harvest crops will complain that the name implies superiorty amongst the farming community.

They wouldn't have done anything to the kids, but the parents would be fined. The city council ended up allowing "Beggar's Night" on the 30th for kids to get candy, but no costumes and nobody over ten years old.

Actually it has been complained against by a very select few radical christen groups as being devil worship.

If you get rid of all Holidays... aren't you being prejudice to everyone except people who don't celebrate holidays? Isn't that in itself wrong too since your putting the preference of those who don't celebrate over those who do. Yet at the time celebrating anything is prejudiced against some other group that doesn't celebrate that. This comes down to a no-win situation. In the end, someone gets burned and its a matter of who you want to burn and who you want to not. Although I always thought "fall festival" was the lamest thinly veiled Halloween replacement ever.
No no no, it's all a part of the evil atheist schemes to take over the world. First gets people interested in that science stuff, then take away all of their feeble celebrations...

What i have to say about Political Correctness

"Fuck this fucking stupid little idea. I mean, for fuck sakes, what the fuck are you trying to fucking achieve here? All you are doing is fucking us up more and making things even more fucked up then they were previously, so fucking focus on something Fucking worthwhile like say, solving fucking world hunger or fucking stopping being fucktards about being fucking 'politically correct'. So, fuck you and your fucking 'fall harvest', it's called fucking halloween you stupid motherfuckers! So go fucking burn in a fucking fire and never fucking bother us again".

And yes, i was purposely trying to see how many times i could fit the word "fuck" and any other versions of the word into a statement...DON'T JUDGE ME!

The topic of politics always brings with it negative connotations.

Additionally, the word "correctness" implies an "incorrect" party, which some may find disheartening.

As such, I recommend we change "political correctness" to "diplomatic exactitude".

Is it me or is almost everything in the world is getting out of hand? Also why do people care about holidays they don't celebrate and PC is just pointless and is getting out of hand, and the fact that schools are calling it Fall Costumes takes the fun out of Halloween...

LOL, I just noticed that there was a Religion and Politics forum.
Everyone tends to do that; mostly because a topic usually degenerates into flaming or bashing.

OT; Its mass hysteria on the part of the media, but its slowly creeping in. Oftentimes religious people and/or immigrants seem to be having one set of laws for them, and another set for the rest of us.

In a nearby city where I live there's a heavy Polish and Muslim population, and it was just recently found out the council had stockpiles brand new fridges/suites/TV's for asylum seekers. Its that sort of thing that is making people increasingly hostile to immigration and religion; because of political correctness, they appear to be getting better treatment.
Yep, political correctness is what causes discrimination & hatred. Heck it is discrimination against the Caucasians, its getting beyond a joke. Treat EVERYONE equally and then theres no discrimination in the system, its the only way.

Honestly, that's what the multiple days on the calendar are for; to put different things in them. On one of them you put Religious Occasion A and another Religious Occasion B. You don't kill both of them and make a Generic Celebration C. It destroys the meaning behind both A and B. So nobody wins except the Politically Correct Gurus and Authors that get airtime and everyone else goes home dissatisfied. It does not offend me that another person had an opportunity to celebrate something different than what I believed. What offends me is that we are both being forced to worship on the same day, something that neither of us believe! Like Affirmative Action, Political Correctness had it's time in the limelight and made some decent changes/points, now it's time to step down or get hit in the face by a comet.

That is an awesome point of view. Why can't more people think like that.

For fucks sack, you know I'm all for political correctness (Or as I prefer to call it, common courtesy) but this is not political correctness this is idiocy plain and simple. If they don't want the kids in Halloween costumes at school just ban costumes at school.

This is getting out of hand, baa baa fluffy sheep my arse, all sheep are fluffy before being shaved, not all sheep are black.
I say we all stop being hyper sensitive, we need to accept what other people think and unless it directly attacks us celebrate whatever holidays we like.

Who gives a shit? I mean, political correctness isn't hurting anybody, so why are you so affronted by trying to be more polite?
Political correctness is just another scam used by a variety of individuals and groups to try to homogenize society, and to create an environment where conformism is the only tolerable status. I hate to be the one to break it to you, but I'm different than you are, and I'd rather celebrate the things that make us both unique, as opposed to pissing, moaning and whining that some insignificant trait makes us irrevocably unsuited to exist in the same general vicinity.

I'm a single male, with no children, involved in a poly-amorous relationship, I'm not a member of an obvious ethnic minority, I'm not affiliated with any religious groups or denominations, and I'm a trained tradesman; those things automatically differentiate me from many people. That doesn't mean I have to be a child-hating, religion-bashing, intellectual-despising misogynist, but it means that I'm automatically prone to doing things that are guaranteed to offend someone before I've even had my morning coffee. I certainly don't intend to be an offensive prick (most of the time), and I strive to actually meet people half-way, in 99% of cases, but it can't always happen; it's not humanly possible to be perfect.

The PC crowd need to sack up and GET OVER IT.

You should see what they did to "Ba-ba Black Sheep".
Apparently they took out the black part.

Yes, they removed all traces of black from the song, because thats apparently less racist.

All political correctness is is a form of racism thats apparently OK to push. And it pisses me off.
Hahaha.

Yahoo answers (yes, THAT Yahoo answers), knows more about this non-story than you do.

I think facts should be checked before bricks are shat.

Political Correctness = Thinking Before You Speak. Sometimes, authority figures take it too far, yes, or impose their view on others. This is more rare than you would think. The opposite is very common, and I'm thankful because it's both hilarious and honest.

Woodsey wins this thread.

Double-check most of the political correctness anecdotes you hear, the majority are fake. The ones that aren't do make me facepalm though.

Also, "polite" is another way of saying "Political Correctness". It's politeness gone mad! This tact is INSANE! I cannot HANDLE this level of RESPECT! TO THE MAX!

Finally...On topic.
I disagree with the school's stance on this issue. I think they should die in a fire.
