Wait... you died a year ago?

Zombies! RUN!
It's the typing dead.
Pfft yeah right, it was brilliant!

It was funny, an easy to follow story (somthing strange in a Suda51 game), it had amazing art style, cool bosses and interesting combat which actually made use of the Wii remote well.

Damn I need to do a review :D

Wow. This thread isn't a base for a flaming war is it?

Anyway. GTA is the obvious choice. The media's hate had it in the papers and on the TV before, during and after it's release, which prompted a few people to play it. Unluckly enough these people liked it, and told others to buy it which put it at the top of sales lists everywhere... which made other people buy it.

Fable II was actauly alright in my opinion. A bit of a disappointment following Fable: TLC, but not bad. It was also extremely popular unless anyone didn't know, probally because of the GTA rule that I spoke about above.

I don't even know why you said Left 4 Dead. There was nothing overated about that game. Not many people bought it, and theres no reason to hate it. Unless of course, you were looking for a storyline. In which case, why were you playing a game?

Fallout 3... why is that in the poll? That game couldn't be less overated if it tried.

Wheres spore? We're talking overrated here, and there's a poll and spore isn't on it. Somethings not right. That game was overrated and extremely over hyped.

GTA 4! I couldn,t stand the constant phone calls and friendship stuff.. I can do that sort of thing in real life. What I can't do (legally), is run people over for fun!

I have to put my money on Mirror's Edge. Beautiful but ultimately disappointing (although the first time i missed a jump, the falling made me literally bite my tongue. If you die in Mirror's Edge. . .?)

Everything you said there was correct (except for it being brilliant) but unfortunately all that couldn't make up for the gameplay being a tedious grind. Yes there were a couple of bosses that were fun to fight and you got to swing the wiimote occasionally but everything else was repetitive at best and then that overworld (where you had to spend half the game) was the most vapid and lifeless environment I've ever seen in a game. Everything looked like poorly made papercraft which would've bothered me so much if the gameplay was fun or exciting.

Most of the games on this list I actually like (even if they were overrated) No More Heroes is one of the few games on the list that's a total ripoff; except if you are a diehard otaku or can find it for $10 and even then, you have to grind through the most boring crap to get to the one or two interesting bosses and don't even get me started on the cutscene boss you don't get to fight after running down a plain gray corridor.

Now here's the thing, I can totally understand that the game has an appeal but so do the Police Academy movies (apparently)so that doesn't make it good. I understand why a lot of gnerds and otaku would love this game, it is funny and it does have an interesting look but it doesn't change the fact that it is one of the most poorly crafted games of all time. The gameplay (what matters to most gamers)is so shallow, I think I'd rather spend my time really pumping gas and cutting grass than play through NMH again. It's obvious they trew it in so that the people who did like it wouldn't finish it in an afternoon. It would've been considered shovelware on any other system.

And now I'll tell you how I really feel:
If this poll was for the most overrated game of all time I would've still voted for NMH. RE4 would be close but that's at least a good game.

Sorry but I can't help but rant about this game, it was such a ripoff (really should've been a budget title), it got me to start renting again. And please nobody try and convince me that No More Heroes is good because it sets me off like this and I'll just put up another wall o text.

L4D overrated, that's a good one. Yup, there is nothing fun or amusing about ripping your friends throats out as an infected. Blast Valve for doing exactly what they intended, making a game entirely focused on a small highly cooperative squad to succeed.

For the last time, Spore and FarCry 2 weren't rated that high by critics.

If the poll was for overhyped games, they would've certainly hit the list.

My favourite let down Brawl! Loved Melee, but something about taking away all the strategy just made it plain boring. I curse the developers for this massive downgrade.

Seriously for 2 years it was over hyped, set back after set back after set back, then sometime later they tell us that some things will be taken out and chucked other things in, all that time went to the tedious Emissary mode. What the hell were they thinking?

I had to go with Brawl. It was too much like its predecessors, which is coming a bit too much of a habit for Nintendo. :/

I think GTAIV was maybe overhyped, but I wasn't disappointed in the slightest by it. I didn't miss anything it dropped from GTASA apart from maybe the land scale, but I was completely sucked in by the story line (and if you whinge about people constantly calling you, you obviously haven't noticed the ability to turn calls/texts off).
how do I turn the calls off?
Bring up the phone menu, select Options then there's a Turn Sleep Mode On or something similar.

yeah, but that also pauses the story, which is stupid

Brawl was severely overhyped and didn't tread much new ground. They made a more extensive adventure mode, which I know I wanted, and a lot of people did, but it wound up being just long and bland. And for a game that is supposed to showcase Nintendo's history, 99% of it was basically stuff that happened since Melee, Pit being the one real exception.

At least GTA4 let you throw yourself out of a helicopter.
true, but does it let you do that naked? And after you jump does it allow you to start a base jumping minigame? Or better yet, does GTA IV allow you to base jump naked? Like Saints Row 2?

It would be on any other site, which is why I asked the reasonable people here.

The only thing close to a flamewar on this thread is the disagreement between Cheesebob and I regarding the few aesthetic merits not making up for the poor gameplay of No More Heroes. But I think we're both being quite civil about it even if I'm not always civil towards NMH.
You want to see dbags wage rabid flamewars, go to joystiq.

The Witcher.

I don't know what everyone else played, but I played a small, througoughly average action adventure game.
...that was released in 2007.
Really? The small print on my box says "copyright 2008."

Oooh, maybe that's just because I have the "Enhanced Edition."

Well then, in that case, Dead Space. Yes, it is a good shooter. But it's not the remarkable shooter everyone seems to be making it out to be.

and yet, I am remarking on it. Funny how that works.
dead space was awsomeeee, finally a new way to kill monsters that just shooting like all FPS's.
the witcher was a hard copy of WOW were u click to attack and if u have time to do so again, u do untill one falls dead.

I didn't say GTA4 was good, all I was saying is that it was better than Brawl, so I don't know why GTA4 was considered more overhyped than Brawl.

its probably because more people got GTA IV and were dissapointed.
Brawl is only on the Wii, while GTA IV is on the 360, PS3, and PC, while Brawl was only on the Wii.

So it had a larger audience.

At least thats my theory
