I voted for "other" out of spite for Minecraft and the belief that we have yet to see the best game of the year.

Portal 2 was admittedly really good.

I'm suspecting it'll come down to either Dragon Age 2 or Portal 2.
I never expected that my two favourite games of any year would be two sequels, but there you have it.

However, I am also expecting quite a bit from DE: Human Revolution. It seems like real care was put into that reboot.

As for Skyrim, meh. Colour me skeptical. If Oblivion was any indication, I'm not likely to be swept away by it.

1. Skyrim
2. TOR
3. Battlefield 3

Are my top 3 games for this year, in that order :)

There is no L.A. Noire in that list. No Modern Warfare 3, too.

99% sure one of those is going to be my GotY.
Modern Warfare 3 is confirmed for this year?
Prove it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Call_of_Duty:_Modern_Warfare_3

I know, I know, Wikipedia isn't the most reliable of sources, but I did see, ages ago, in one of the News Posts on this very site, (During the initial legal troubles of IW and Activision) something about Activision not paying Ininity Ward what they are owed for the success of MW2 until they had finished the third installment.

Now, that doesn't confirm MW3 for this year, but come on, there is a CoD every year, Sledgehammer have had the time Activison usually give devs to work on the next Call of Duty, and Modern Warfare has had an installment once every two years previously.

It's due, and while I can't prove it 100% for this year, I'll eat the proverbial hat if Modern Warfare 3 isn't announced for this year, to be released sometime November.

Arkham Asylum would give a great sense of freedom (like Minecraft) along with speed (like Portal 2). I say that, unless ME3 has a jetpack.

Like others, I'm surprised that you included some of these on your poll but not L.A. Noire.
To be honest I've never actually heard of it... I'm really surprised that's flown completely under my radar

None in the list will become GOTY.

They are all followups to other games, they are not truly amazing games by themselves.
(I apologize in advance for my poor english. i hurried a little bit too much when writeing all this... Also, English is not my primary language)

Portal 2 is a strong candidate. It is a sequel BUT it has been so long since the last one so i would considering it new. It is amazingly put together so it has a shot at GOTY.

Minecraft is an Indie game. It is a great game but not developed enough to be of GOTY status. It is my favorite game of the time but it's not GOTY material. It's innovative and epic.

Mass Effect 3 will fall short. I predict that ME3 will NOT be as succesful as the other ME titles simply because it is a "3rd" and that Bioware is starting to make me personally bored of their way of makeing games. They make a great story (great) Repetitive gameplay (Horrible) and they've thought of themselves as innovative with things that is not important for them. The way they've created the dialougue to be immersive is getting tedious. It has been done and i don't see any way for Bioware to pull a new trick out of the hat with this loved franchise. It will be a great game, but not GOTY material.

Uncharted 3, i don't know enough to realy give my opinion on it. From what i've seen, it looks like a great game, but generic... it's the same kind of Uncharted we loved from the start which again is not GOTY material. I will buy Uncharted but i think it will fall short on some parts if they don't reinvent their storytelling. I know Drake is a tressure hunter but it've been done the same way in both the 1st and the 2nd. Going to a wide varity of places to seek out an ancient treasure but there is a bad guy after them. Same fomula will not be as succesful. That's my hope for Uncharted. I loved the first one most btw.

Dragon age 2. God no! Never ever ever would i see DA2 as the winner of Game of the year! It is good and all but god... I will not award a game in which you spend the 1st half of the game doing tedious side quests for gold that is useless anyway! Once you got the initial gold to "fund" the expedition you never need gold again.. But then there is my biggest problem with the game: what i call the "More enemies is better" syndrome. Each time i entered a fight i would kill the guys who i saw at first and then when i'm about to finish the last guy 10 more generic bad guys would drop from the ceiling like they were sitting up there looking down on their friends haveing a laugh while their friends would get decapitated!

Battlefield 3... Ohhhh my... i wish for this game to be good but somewhere in me i know it will be a generic shooter which will simply polish every aspect of earlier shooters and not push the genre forward. I hope to god that it will be great. I'm super hyped for it but i see problems with it. The way EA has been promoting it has made me think that they will fail...

so yea: That's my opinion on the "nominees" you've listed. It's all my opinion but if i should take some of my own nominations i would say: Battlefield 3 (a BIG maybe) Minecraft (hopefully aswell)

As of other nominees: Skyrim! I'm surprissed you didn't note it down in the list but here goes:
Skyrim will be amazing. Utterly amazing. I say that because it is improveing upon it's predeccesors a whole lot. The idea of their "radiant" tech is amazingly innovative. also: Mods. Oblivion had an amazing mod community and i think Skyrim will be just as succesful with the modders.

GO SKYRIM!!!

I'd rather wait for the games before I decide.
This, exactly this!! I've never understood why people start naming GOTY when the years alloted games haven't been released or played yet. IMO the only time you can make a decision on the actual GOTY is for you is once the year has passed and the games have been played.
